Drag racing is televised and they have to edit out the vast majority of an event.

Quoted from 0geist0:
Drag Racing is exciting though. Pinball not so much.
You missed the point completely. It's heavily edited to seem interesting on TV. If a similar process were applied to pinball, pinball would seem more interesting to the casual viewer.
Quoted from RJW:
Who is going to green light pinball on espn when it pulls those kind of numbers. Who do you sell the advertising too?
How much does it cost to be the sponsor of a tournament compared to paying for a 30 second spot on ESPN?
To sell pinball to a broadcaster you'd have to show real world numbers to convince them it would make them money.
You know they show lumberjack competitions and world's strongest man on ESPN?
Pinball has enough interest. Need an interested production team.
Quoted from Rondogg:
Esports works because there are 10s of millions of players playing competitively on line every day all year long.
Pinball doesn't work because there are hundreds of people playing competitively, every random weekend.
You think there are "10s of millions of" lumberjack fans out there too? Me neither. Yet the competitions are still on TV.
It's sponsor driven to some extent. Stihl and Poulan can sell enough chainsaws to viewers, so they sponsor the show. Get sponsors interested in pinball and the dollars will start flowing. IFPA has a plan, we'll see how well it works in a year or two. Dos Equis https://www.dosequis.com/ sponsored the Bat City Open this year, GFUEL https://gfuel.com/ sponsored the New York City pinball championships this year.
