Being mean =/= correcting people, you can correct somebody and still be nice

Quoted from JDD:You might actually want to ask someone how to treat them before assuming that you know.
Can't one easily assume people want to be treated nice? You're saying people should go around asking "hey should I treat you nice? or would you prefer being treated badly?". The other way ("treat me badly") is obviously not going to happen, even if you meant a non-caring person who doesn't care how they are treated who assumes others are the same way, should ask to make sure they can treat people meanly. i.e. they will obviously never say yes
The golden rule should just be "Treat people nicely".
