Ok I just finished my complete restoration on my Harlem globetrotters back in may and have put in 2 different balls.1 from pinball life and now ninja and both have became rusty in no time at all.none of my other games have this problem at all. How do I remedy this problem. Do I clean or replace the ball trough on harlem or are just pinballs cheaply manufactured nowadays. Please all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Just to cover all the bases: do you clean off the balls thoroughly when you receive them new? And do you take care not to leave oils from your skin on them when you plunk them down?
Perhaps there are some residual oils in the trough or somewhere on the playfield that the balls are picking up and then causing them to rust?

As you can see my trough is beautiful and dont see anything that would cause this rusting

I just cleaned this new one with rubbing alcohol to be sure so let's see how this goes

Get some blitz wax and wax them just like you would the playfield. If that doesn't work, send me your Globetrotter and I'll see how my balls do for comparison

Check the humidity % in your house or the room that this machine is in.
Look around the room, is it near an A.C. unit or near the ventilation of a central air vent.
Near a bathroom/shower.
Basements, even if finished can have a higher humidity level.
Try putting a smaller size bucket of "Damprid"
where the coinbox goes and see if that helps.

Wax your balls, man!!!

I'm going to assume that you have no general humidity problems or it would affect your others pins. You said you had just finished restoring your pin so I'm going to suggest a possibility, well more like a guess. Perhaps your clear on the PF is still giving off gas and that gas being trapped under the glass has to at least have marginal water in it you're getting rust, or it's a pure chemical reaction to something in the gas. Probably far-fetched but I thought I'd offer it up. Maybe one of the other restore guys have seen this or can chime in.

I'm running 2 smaller dehumidifiers and it stay around 58-60 % the in the summer but never have had any problems with my balls ever.

Maybe it's orange gunk from the new rubbers and not rust? I have one pin that constantly gets black flecks on the balls from the rubbers.

Will be going to Walmart tomorrow and buying a couple damprid tubs.thanks for the advice. This stuff looks amazing.

Yes they are Ninja's

Is there a metal spot that the balls hit a lot? My Comet eats up balls a lot quicker than my other machines. My assumption is it's caused by high speed hits to the metal guide next to the left flipper.
