After playing the first three Spooky pins, I'd have to try out ACNC or R&M before I'd think about buying one.

#52 4 years ago

First, I'm happy for spooky and the continued success. Hope they are here to stay for the long haul. But here are my reasons.

1. Shouldn't have to pay to join a club to buy a game.

2. Price point has gotten out of hand IMO

3. Putting a rather large non refundable deposit down on a game I barely saw pictures/video of was a big turn off.

4. Waiting up to 18 months for game to ship. No thank you.

Quoted from GuiitarMan:

Other - I'm broke.

There's a poll option for that.

#54 4 years ago

I didn't buy R&M because I just bought two games last week (NIB JP and a Whoa Nellie).

#55 4 years ago

Play it, then maybe, I pay for it

#56 4 years ago

I’m too impatient- simply cannot wait that long to get the Pin.
They build 10 a week? I’m crap at math but this means I’m waiting up to 18 months in UK I guess.
I sincerely wish Spooky all the best though, I’m sure it will be great

#57 4 years ago

No piece of a couch and no apron signature from Gary Stern.

#58 4 years ago

I can see people selling their spots in line as they get impatient, but no way will they be selling them at less than cost or at cost like I saw for ACNC. 750 units is wayyyyy underproduced for the hotness of this theme.

Price pumping pre-order spots. Really?

Ouch...JP I get (great game), but Whoa Nellie? That game is terrible. People want to dog Spooky games, but Whoa Nellie is junk. I'll take R&M over Whoa Nellie any day.

Quoted from Tommy-dog:

I wanted to vote twice: Who is Rick and Morty and not crazy about Spooky games. I have played all the prior released Spooky games and none of them have impressed me.

Looking at your collection, looks like Stern's pins don't impress you either.

As an arcade owner I was in the market for our next pinball machine this past week and was considering Monster Bash, Ghostbusters and Jurassic Park. Rick and Morty is a great IP and one of the most important things to consider for an arcade ( for example south park does well and I think the game is way too shallow) We generally like to see the games in action and usually want to find another location that has the game before we buy.

The FOMO style of this game being rushed to market and even after it sold out there is no long play showing the game is a deal breaker and we decided in Jurassic park since ghostbusters wasn't available.

That being said it didnt feel like Spooky cared about operators with this game. This game is way too hyped and at least with stern reveals there is at least a good 2-3 hour stream showing off the beta code to make some kind a of a decision. Spooky in the past would show off gameplay which is why a red flag was raised in my mind.

I don't preorder a $60 game for myself without information so why should i make a $7500 blind purchase?

I don't get how you say Spooky doesn't care about operators. Did you see the new easy access door to the back box? Charlie also addressed 3 things that are the only issues I've had with ACNC in his very short video and how they addressed them to improve the design. I haven't seen any other companies improving games for operators by continuing to decrease build quality (example clear coat issues right now...which Spooky doesn't have). Plus based on my conversations with local operators, simple games with great IP do better from a profit stand point than anything else.

The way they are selling this game is why i say that you are conflating build quality which has no context to what i am saying when i am talking about how they rushed this to market.

Quoted from JustEverett:

Clearcoat issues? Play your games more after 400 plays on deadpool they even out. I care about the game making money if you are concerned about play field dimples then keep in in the box. As long as the cashbox is full then i am happy.

#65 4 years ago

Then how is that different for an operator versus a home buyer?

Also Imo Spooky has hand down the best customer service and support as far as pinball machine makers go.

#66 4 years ago

Game shoots great, I enjoy the show, custom voice callouts are genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, and I have supreme confidence in Eric on code.

...but I already bought a $7k game this year, don't have space, and know a few people getting one. I'll have plenty of opportunity to play it.

#67 4 years ago

having to pay to join a stupid club to even have a chance at buying the game just felt like a greedy douche move on spooky's part.
Also the clip of the game didn't really do anything for me and i've played every game from spooky and they pretty much all suck.(TNA is just OK imo)

#68 4 years ago

I didn't try to buy one because I'd have to sell a game to get it. And nothing I'd consider selling right now. Which is a good thing for me.

I do believe Charlie and Spooky really knocked this one out of the park. People are going to be happy they got one.

Never purchased a new game and don’t want to screw it up. Beatles, Dialed In seem like better choices for me at this time.

Kudos Spooky! You guys have made good!

I think Spooky was just trying to do something special for the Fang Club members. The truth is, pinheads that wanted this pin don't mind paying 45 bucks to order early - as everyone knew this was a sure fire sell out. But to sell out EASILY in a day! WOW!!!

By the way, I don't think the new members care about getting a poster....

I am a huge rick and morty fan, I was super excited to see the reveal. After seeing the playfield art work and then finding out how haunted house party was the machine prototype , it made me think that the game was already made and they slapped the theme onto it.

So it’s not a rick and morty game with mechs integrated into the theme. But rather mechs from a pinball that was already designed with rick and morty added.

The playfield artwork does not work for me and I feel that the person who did it does not understand pinball and it seems most of the artwork out side game specific art is mostly from the title sequence animation and that makes me the the person who did the art knows rick and morty on a base level, not in-depth knowledge of the show.

If the playfield art was different I would have purchased. I think it’s the worst part of the machine.

#73 4 years ago

I’m waiting for a remake of Punchy the Clown

Wrong. Haunted House Party was never a real game. Manufacturers use code names to hide the actual themes.

Jurassic Park = jaws
Star Trek = bill
Game of Thrones = politico
etc.

That's like saying if the moon gets hit with 4000 more asteroids, it will even out.

#77 4 years ago

I didn’t buy it because I’ve never watched the show and did not have the desire to start watching once I saw the reveal. I’m not going to spend that kind of money on a theme that I’ve never connected to. I’m sure it’s great property for many fans of the show and here at pinside. I think it’s going to be a great game. I’m truly happy for Spooky and those that pre-ordered R&M. It’s just not a game for me to add to my own personal collection right now.

#78 4 years ago

Seems alright, there's just other games new and old I want more. Also don't feel like waiting up to two years.

Feel same but 750 people and apparently plenty more don't have a problem with any of that. I thought the club thing was a great idea for Spooky to raise a little revenue and get more people invested in their brand. Why not? Even so, you didn't have to join the club since you could buy from distributors. Club members just get their games faster and have extra trim offers. Not everyone has to wait 18 months. That's just how long it takes them to build all 750 of them.

Tell me how my statement of “haunted house party was the prototype” is wrong.

???

Bill would be the prototype of Star Trek......

There was never a game called Haunted House Party. It was a joke/codename, complete with clearly fake logo. Scott designed Rick & Morty as Rick & Morty from day one. Not sure how many other ways I can say it.

I did not buy one because I like having clear coat issues.

I don’t see how an IP like R&M wouldn’t kill on location. I know the local arcade kills it with SP and AP just because of the theme. Most of the serious pinball players don’t like the games, but people step up and play those two non-stop. Seems like it would be the same for R&M.

Spooky said right in the thread that this was never designed as a different game. It was just a code name for the work in progress because of the licensing requirements.

Love the show, love the Spooky Team, but already committed to the MMRRE, and no way I’m letting this NIB MM slip away.

Trust me, I talked my wife’s ear off about this title. She thinks the callouts would get old quick. And she hates the show.

I have space for 4 more pins, 3 more after MMRRE.

#92 4 years ago
Quoted from tommyp:

Because I prefer to let the rest of you pre-order, then whine when it shows up and it's broke/unfinished/playfield pooling/bad clear chipping/code not supported/ every other reason people complain on here. Then..sit back, and laugh when you do it with the next release all over again. Boggles my mind y'all still buy pins sight unseen and uncompleted.

This isn't Stern.

#93 4 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Most of all I don't have a lot of experience with Spooky. I finally played AMH not long ago, played ACNC with sub early code, and also played RZ and didn't have a great time with any of them. I hole more promise for this one becasue form what I've played of TNA it was great, and luckily one just popped up near me so I'll be playing it more.
The look of this one didn't blow me away, but until I play one it's impossible to say. But not having that familiarity with them I couldn't do it, even though the fire sale thing had me itching to.

They have an AMH at Pinball Pete's still? Last I visited earlier this year they did, but it was out of order.

Actually a fun game, I think! Heard it is a bear to operate. I didnt hate RZ, ACNC was fun! Guess I like Spooky more than I'd have thunk ha

#94 4 years ago

the price and time avail , plain and simple. A new machine on location whether being an le, blinged out title, etc, all earn the same as the cheapest new pro title.
then, the larger priced ones usually have the worst resale value.
if it was 4500 and would be ready now when the title is hot, i would have been on board and took a chance.
7k plus shipping is to much of a risk operator wise.

#95 4 years ago

Dont have a clue who they are.....yes....going to crawl back under my rock now.....

That's OK.

I never heard of Ghostbusters before I joined pinside.

#97 4 years ago

It's ok....I'll still play it and likely enjoy it. Just have zero connection to the theme...which is a good enough reason to not even think of buying one.

Quoted from o-din:

Yep that's where I just payed it and it was pretty damn bad. Again I'm not holding it against them being their first game and all. ACNC was so early it should not have been allowed to be played...silver_spinner and I played it and it was a bag of garbage; I hear it's pretty decent now. TNA played great. RZ felt like a sequel to Road Kings that KK build.

#100 4 years ago
Quoted from seenev:

I might be interested in getting it someday, but honestly I just wasn't that amazed by the design, at least as seen in the reveal video.

Same thing. Didn't feel the design lives up to the quality of the theme. Underwhelming to say the least. It feels like there is something missing.

If I'm spending NIB I want something that blows me away.
