Maybe I've missed something along the way since I don't read here very often, but why does someone other than the OP "bump" something? I know why stuff gets bumped to keep it "current", and can understand the OP doing it, but have never understood non-OP's doing it.

    Bump

    #3 10 years ago

    Friends bump other friends.

    #4 10 years ago

Had a feeling that was part of it but someone "bumped" one of my FS posts a few weeks ago and I have no idea who it was or why they did it. Is it to raise karma points?

    #5 10 years ago

Or they own the same game you were selling and want your game to sell to make the value of their game increase?

    #6 10 years ago

Without a bump, this thread might die before it can be throughly discussed. And I really want to see how it ends. Bump.

    #7 10 years ago

To help keep a cool thread going, or to help a fellow Pinsider buy ,sell ,or trade something.
    Bump.

    #8 10 years ago

    Why not?

    #9 10 years ago

Because it's self-defeating if everyone's doing it and just raises the "volume"? For example if 10 items for sale and all 10 get bumped, wouldn't it have been the same if those hadn't been bumped? I'm not pointing fingers or necessarily saying it's a bad thing, and obviously not every FS post is bumped, just curious on why those who do it, do it.

I will bump a sellers thread that I have bought or sold from in the past.
BFAGS---> "bump for a good seller"
And usually only if it has scrolled off of page 1

    #11 10 years ago

sometimes it is a newbie who does not understand the forum
sometimes it is a forum troll getting his rocks off
sometimes it is a new user doing a search and not reading the date

Then why concern yourself with it? Bumping is standard practice on just about any forum with "for sale" threads.

    #13 10 years ago

Just for that, I'm not Bumping this Thread!

    #14 10 years ago

Another bump for a great seller.

I'm aware of the practice, just have not seen non-OP's bumping threads before.

Some threads don't deserve to die!

I hadn't thought of that but you could be right, everyone here is quite friendly. Most anyway.

    #24 10 years ago

    Mostly friendly bump!

    #25 10 years ago

Sorry I just 'bumped' into this thread about 'bumping' and figured I would 'bump' it before reading other 'bumped' threads.

    Hope this answers your question:
    Thread Bumping

In online forums and other online discussion spaces bump is the word used to describe an action (e.g. a message post) so that a particular thread is returned to the top in the list of threads. Some users may even post a message with only the word "bump" to indicate they are posting only to bump the thread to the top of the list where more users will see it.

It's a bumper crop of bumps that we have growing here.

    #45 10 years ago

I always feel like a tool when I bump my own threads. I figure it should be up to others to keep it going......but I do it anyway in hopes that people really do like me and they just happened to miss my thread. Someone else bumps my thread and I feel so much better about myself.

    #46 10 years ago

You should be happy. They ask a lot more for a bump on eBay.
