Whaaa? Sold soon after the code update? Or just before?

That's what I do. Love modding, but not too much! More reliable and best value!

Which would explain not losing any $$. But also because Pro’s have gone up significantly in price since GOT.

i would say loss of value is very connected to lack of code from release/the code itself

looking at a Star Trek Pro NIB w/shaker and insured shipping for $5593.00. Two for sale on pinside for $4800 and $4900 used with no shipping included. Seems like a the new would be the way to go? Am I missing the forest for the trees?

Buying new at this point in time is risky with the potential for playfield issues. I'd try to track down an original run Pro if you can. The playfields and cabinets are built better in the 2013-2014 timeframe. I think that was before the switch to water based clearcoat as well as well as before Stern's move to the new factory.

For me, it all about being truthful/transparent...folks will make up their own minds.
No doubt that Stern is unlikely to change without feeling some financial "pain". Distributors are hoping speaking up...they feel a lot of the heat when problems arise.

Agree. I was an impatient addict as well. That’s why I have brand new BKSORLE rotting at 7500. Lol

    Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Yup. Values for LE's used to hold so well as they were not $9k+ and counts of LE's were significantly lower on average.

What was the last Stern LE to hold value? I think if you look back, that's been the exception rather than the rule, for years now it's been common knowledge that you can always get an LE for less than retail six months after they ship. And if you're a day-one buyer, you know you're going to take a ~$1k hit when you sell an LE.

I'd go new 100% in this scenario

A used game offers no warranty & the seller might withhold info or be unaware of grenades.

Plus shipping costs on a used game or long distance driving make it hard to justify going used IMO.

But if a local ST popped up @ $4000-$4250 then I'd go HUO if the seller was a cool dude.

My ST pro was built in 2016 and has about 3000 plays on it. No clear coat issues at all and dimpling is very minimal. If you can find one with Aurich art package on it (like I did), it's a huge improvement!

Get Pros. Just sold my 3 year old GOT pro with like 8k plays for a zero dollar loss.
Some do hold value. Others don’t. Economics 101.[quoted image]

Did you pay full retail? Hmmm...

    Quoted from drfrightner:

I think Sterns LE lose a lot more value than a JJP because people who buy JJP games are high end collector buyers. I think Stern is more of a players game, so you're more into the buy sell trade group. I hardly ever see JJP games for sale because when people get them they keep them.

You clearly don't look at the Marketplace very often. It's all the same dude. Neither manufacturer's highest model is worth the premium, but whatever makes you feel better I guess.

I depends where you live as well. In northern Michigan where I am, it's a long drive for a lot of people, so fetching top price is more difficult. I price to sell when the time comes.

You also could be buying some one else's issues and all their stuff ups.

    Plenty of that goes on.
Many owners don't have patience or skill set to fix any issues. These are sometimes never disclosed in the sale.
I have been burned from buying sight unseen and relying on the Integrity of the seller.

    Never buy sight unseen.

Plenty of high integrity sellers on Pinside that I’d buy “sight unseen” from. Part of the fun of the hobby is doing business with high integrity people. This forum helps quite a bit...
