Quoted from drsfmd:

No Rob Zombie? Phil Anselmo? FFS, neither Ozzy nor Hetfield are on this list.

I saw White Zombie open for Pantera back in the mid 90's. Even though it was WZ I was there to see, Pantera blew them off the stage.

As much of a WZ fan as I was/am, Rob Zombie sounds terrible live imo.

I was working in radio back then, and saw both live many times... and you’re right, Pantera was better live, but RZ has a hell of a voice.

Axl Rose is a beast.

Clown Prince of Darkness maybe.

The only thing lower than his 6 note singing range is his IQ

(J/K - Ozzy is a great entertainer, just not so much a singer).

Quoted from pinzrfun:

Geoff Tate is probably the best trained.

Long time Queensryche fan, I never get tired of hearing him sing. His voice is still amazing when I listen to The Warning and Queen of the Reich.

Man that chart is all kinds a wrong. Yer tellin me Freddie Mercury and Thom Yorke have a lower vocal range than Barry White? Lol.
Nothin against you Rocky Top (and Axl does have an insane range) but I don't see how that chart is based in any sort of reality at all.
Edit: Nm, I see that "sort page" now. Derp. I'm just gonna go put my helmet on...

#114 6 years ago

To me it’s not only about how much range a singer has. It’s also about his stage presence and the way he delivers the music he’s singing.

Dio was mystical when he preformed. Even in his 60s. Greatest of all time.

#115 6 years ago

Rob Halford of Judas Priest no question, sounds better than guys half his age.dio is close second. Sabbath and Judas Priest are heavy metal! Axl rose is a half ass whiner. Watch out seattle as two big crazy Canucks headed south to see Judas Priest on April 15th! Lock your doors! Lol

#116 6 years ago

There is only one singer in that poll that does not have his AARP card.

#117 6 years ago

Where's the vids guide to heavy metal singers

#118 6 years ago

I personally think that heavy metal needed to be defined at the start of this thread as lots of rocker posers are popping up......
I'm just waiting for someone to say David lee Roth so I can bust a gut laughing ffs!

#119 6 years ago

Speaking of Rocker Posers, I'm a little early for April Fools, but it has to be April 1 somewhere. Pat Boone for Dishonorable Mention (worse ever).

#120 6 years ago

Let’s not forget about Ian Gillian. To me he sang on the best Deep Purple album of all time

Joey Belladonna FOR THE WIN.

#123 6 years ago

my personal favourite right now is this guy, Devin Townsend.

RJD was probably king though, way better than ozzy. hetfield doesnt even deserve to be mentioned in this discussion.

That's a negatory.

Mike Patton is a great vocalist but not a great singer. There is a difference.

Steve Grimmett - Grim Reaper Range is incredible

Bon Scott #1 hands down

I second that vote - love Bon Scott. After Bon, I'd go with Ozzy.

I think when you consider Axl’s range, tone, air raid/buzzsaw delivery, etc...he’s the best. He’s a great front man as well.

The last great rock star in my opinion.

#132 6 years ago

Sebastian Bach should absolutely be on this list! MF could sing and hit whatever notes he wanted when he wanted. Beautiful voice!

Ronnie James Dio was a midget so hard to say he was the greatest Metal singer of all time. Somewhere there should be a category for the ability to land chicks if you wanna be the greatest! Metal gods landed chicks! Since Rob Halford is number 2 no reason Sebastian shouldn't be on this list.

Axl Rose should be on this list too, CHRIST

#141 6 years ago

There's no metal on this list just classic rock

But on the list Halford

The list needs more pig squeals

35 seconds into this video, HAIR METAL, 80's METAL

This is my favorite for what still gets played on the radio, still feel the emotion from when I was in college when I hear today:

System of Down - Serj Tankian

I'm curious, does Rage Against the Machine count?

Please explain because I think he’s both.

I love Patton, always have. He can do really cool creative things with his voice, but he never demonstrated a power or tone like Geoff Tate or Dio. He is one of my favorite musicians so no disrespect and this is all largely subjective so what the hell do I know.

There's no James Hetfield on the list, it's a joke.
He's the most talented singer guitarist and composer in Metal IMO
