Just brought home a TSPP yesterday and already received a comment that it looks dark compared to my Mustang (and my SI). I want to dramatically brighten it up. I'd love to see some pics of what others have done.

Who's added additional spots? Perhaps some strategically located LED strips? Pics are appreciated!

For me LEDs are a given. I'm thinking LEDs for GI and spots. I'm also thinking about leaving the inserts as incandescents. I like the fade effect of the PF inserts and don't want to install an extra board. Are there some super bright incans that you can recommend? I think it takes 555's and 44's for the inserts but I haven't looked carefully.

Surely it's not mine. Anyone?

You could replace all the GI, and the inserts, with the same bulbs as in your Mustang.....It will look like a match
to your Mustang....I dont have any pics...but it looks just fine...and runs under $100 to do.
It would look fine in White, Better in Sunlight,, and Warm White.
Getting the entire cooling towers lit helps as well and an Op-Max does that with perfection.
Try out the GI change first, before you worry about strips and other spots, as once the lights on the backsplash, and
GI are done.....youll be quite surprised at the look....

just buy this and it will match your other games.... I just ordered 3 kits for my games. I also have a TSPP and although I like keeping games as original as possible LED's are the way to go. Some might argue but if your going LED's go with CoinTakers: Melissa just hooked me up on a bunch of kits, tell them your a pinsider.

Get an OCD LED board from Comet to go with your leds

#6 9 years ago

I have the coin taker kit in my TSPP. It looks great!

I am going to put leds in my TSPP's GI
I will use the warm white 3-led led's
no cold white...!

This "brightens up" the game but not literally...

The one I play locally looks to be outfitted with all cool white LEDs in the GI. It is about as bright as your Mustang.

#10 9 years ago

I put the same double-LEDs from Cointaker as what Stern puts in all their new games. Did it to my TSPP as well, makes it look like a new stern.

Mine has cool white leds and looks nice and bright, I really like it. Seems to make the playfield colors pop more as well and frankly I think it just fits better than warm color lights.

Looks to me like you have quite a few bulbs out, or there is something else going on. Here's mine, 100% stock incandescent. This is my only game that doesn't have LEDs, and so far have no plans to change it.

Taken in the pitch black dark with only the machine lighting. Notice none of that dark in the center and by the flippers.

That looks pretty good, actually. Definitely brightens it up. Maybe I'll try it for the GI. Is that cool white super bright?

That is the pinballbulbs.com led kit

TSPP has a yellow-based color scheme. It will look sucky with blue-white LEDs IMO. But aesthetic considerations rarely are of concern to most pinball modders.

Also, TSPP is an older game. Not every game has to light up like Times Square or Shinjuku.... If it's bright enough to see the ball well, it's fine.

Here is mine (currently for sale) full leds, taken with a DSLR -1 stop.

LEDs in the GI (especially cool white) look terrible in this game. I have them in the inserts, but I'd sooner sell the game than play it with LEDs in the GI. Barf.

Yeah, he asked which was the brightest, but the brightest I've seen is not the most visually appealing. Cool white looks like harsh florescent lighting on this game. I don't think I'd want to go full warm white, but something in between cool white and warm white (Comet's sunlight sounds just right, IMO).

I'm ordering a ton of comets natural white bulbs now The naturals looks to be a good in between color. Looks like a complete color matched set is gonna run about $110. MUCH better pricing than I've seen elsewhere.

Also ordered OCD's board, couldn't...resist!

I tried a lot of different LED's in my TSPP when I first got it and settled on faceted bulbs for most of the GI. They produce a good amount of light spread to brighten up the playfield. A light sanding to the top of the faceted lens does a good job of diffusing any 'hot spot' shining up through the plastic, if needed.

You might also want to try Comet's Sunlight Op-Max in the spotlight shining at Homer's head. Looks good in mine.

I've spent the last few nights getting some leds installed throughout my pin. 100% in fact including spots, coin door, flashers, PF, GI and the back box. All the leds came from Comet Pinball and are controlled by LED OCD's board. The led tube in the back box came from amazon.

Here's the before shot and then some after shots.

20140925_214003.jpg20140925_214003.jpg

Notice here the difference the led tube makes in the back box. You can see a slightly dim spot running through the middle, that's the back of the tube since it's pointed into the back box. But notice how much brighter the top and bottom of the translight is.

20140911_212530.jpg20140911_212530.jpg

And to make it even brighter and really piss off the incan lovers I'm gonna add some more spots to brighten up the middle of the PF.

Oh man you should have gotten the Pinballbulbs double spots. I've got close to 40 of them on my games and they work perfect and they come with alligator clips that power both bulbs at the same time so there's no need for soldering. 2 sections of hex posts, #6 or #8 your choice also comes with each double spot.

At $25 each, I'll pass. I can achieve the same thing for less than $10.

Brightest?
What about best playingest?

#27 9 years ago

I just did m GI today in warm white. Had cool white for a while, but it just didn't look right to me.

I agree.

I prefer the spotlights from Pinball life that have the black housing.

I finally wired in two spots. On the left, aimed at the center of the PF. Really brightens up the middle.
