While I commend Stern for trying something different, I'm trying to figure out who this game is for. It sees as though it's too "EM-y" for the DMD crowd and too modernized for the EM lovers....and priced too high for anyone. When we complain about licenses we don't like, at least you can say they're trying to appeal to people outside our little hobby group...which is true - we're just a small fraction of potential pinball buyers. However, without a license - I'm not sure who this game is supposed to appeal to outside our base.

Anyone here excited to buy one? Raise your hand!

Ok.... you know what, I'll lay off the hate and celebrate Stern for taking a chance with something way out there.

This is kooky and original and totally custom. I hope it's fun for players and I'm sure it will be a curiosity piece for any collector.

#453 9 years ago

And I have to add.... Stern MAKES games. These are coming out of the factory. If it's just a crazy little experiment, they produced it, it's real.

#454 9 years ago

can see one mod - putting a drawer in that crate - might as well store crap in there.

also in the photos no visible leg holes in the cabinet with the crate.

#455 9 years ago

I think Stern realizes this is more of a boutique pin. I doubt they expect to sell thousands of them.

#456 9 years ago

I agree the video couldn't be any worse to showcase this machine, but it does have some appeal from a technology standpoint. I was hoping for so much more and hope a new video will surface soon that actually shows something worthwhile. I have a feeling this machine will have horrible sales for Stern unless they figure out how to sugarcoat this thing and also drop the price 1.5k.

#457 9 years ago

At the end of the day, they will have sold more "The Pins" than this one..

#458 9 years ago

Great artwork and looks nice overall but I'm "from the 70's " EM era. Plenty of people don't like the best drop-target games from then but they are different class to this. They sure were easily pleased in the 50's/60's although to be fair this looks even duller.

Quoted from Rarehero:

I might.

Out of my 45 games, I guarantee that's the one everyone who visits will flock to.

Right now, everyone flocks to Sexy Girl. Not because it is the most complicated, or has a DMD, or a million ramps, but because it has a video screen in the middle of the playfield, good music, and a simple layout.

WNBJM looks like just pure pinball fun.

You might not want it in a collection of 4 games, but in a larger collection, what's not to like?

Ponder this for a second.... maybe Stern can BE a "boutique" manufacturer. If they can produce this crazy hybrid, they can make anything.

They are definitely TRYING new things. The "Pin", WNBJM, assembling the MMr.

Not everything will be a hit, but I applaud them for trying.

Are the coin mechs included?

Based on the MMr run,
Stern was not able to install coin mechs.

Quoted from unigroove:

Just received the following press release from Stern, no pics yet but they're likely to follow soon:

The price.

#464 9 years ago
Quoted from Aurich:

Man, the hate is strong! It's not a game for people who don't dig simpler, older games. And it's not really an EM for people who love that stuff. So I get that it's stuck in the middle a little.

I can't tell if the score reels are real or an LCD screen. They look almost like a screen in some of that video.

Good question, but their release say this:

Illuminated mechanical score reels

#465 9 years ago

it's like they're priced to be sold on ebay

#466 9 years ago
Quoted from scott_freeman:

Are the coin mechs included?

Yes.

But if Stern would have installed mechs that only took dimes - that would have been the shit!

#467 9 years ago

If you can't see the value in the price, then this is not the game for you.

#468 9 years ago

If it came with an autoblow2 attached to the front and it was integrated into gameplay it could possibly justify the asking price

Hick Chick voiceovers

Hick Chicks are great!

Coolness factor is there, but I think I'd rather just get MET or ST for about 1K less.

Sure are.

Throw in some Lee Denson cranked up until it distorts, and you got yourself a real nice time...

You'll most likely get a thread ban from this post. You said you"used" to donate to pinside? Really? When? Since your account says you have been a member for a whopping month and a half and I see no red heart next to your name. That's a lot of experience there Mack. Unless your account is a duplicate one. If so one of the moderators you are criticizing will discover shortly.

I wish I could thumb up this post more than once. Can't believe I did not notice the guy did not have a red heart and has been a member for only 1.5 months.
Can I create a duplicate account just to thumb you up again?

Quoted from sturner:

It's a nice looking machine but the theme is a turnoff. Not something you want to bring home if you have kids. Not sure a wife would want this sitting around the house. And not sure other adults would really understand the tongue in cheek nature of the machine.
I guess a bar would work, but I'd think they are more interested in the newer looking machines that have a lot more going on.
Like I said, it's a gorgeous machine, but I just don't see who this is being marketed toward.

I think you have it completely backwards. Kids won't understand the adult themes. Many cartoons, from my youth anyway(Warner bros.) had adult themes that went completely over the head of us as kids.

#478 9 years ago

I like that they are making a new game and I think this looks fun to play but please, in god's holy name, just take a couple of extra minutes to produce and edit the first video that you show the public!

Here's a couple of examples of a good pinball video:

Quoted from Roostking:

And if it encourages kids to eat actual fruit rather than just Fruit-Roll-Ups, parents should be all for it.

Yeah maybe, but after a game or two, will they come back for more?

#481 9 years ago

Thanks JLM33!

#482 9 years ago
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

Yeah maybe, but after a game or two, will they come back for more?

Who cares?

It's a conversation piece.

It's art.

It's fun.

I've got a $5,000 Italian leather sofa I bought because it looked cool. I sit on it about once a year.

#483 9 years ago
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

Yeah maybe, but after a game or two, will they come back for more?

Does it matter? Like vid1900 said, I think this is for the serious collector, or person with money to burn. Its the art and the theme they are buying, gameplay is probably secondary.

#484 9 years ago

I care, others may also.

I don't really want to buy something where I loose interest quickly, especially at that price.

But i wish them well and i hope they sell the full production run, the art and theme is very cool.

#485 9 years ago

watching that video just put a smile on my face. It looks like a great game that is something fun and different. I wish I could justify the cost. I hope to play one at Allentown. I think it is a job well done by Stern and Co., a real work of art.

#486 9 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Once you throw horseshit like "you fit the pinhead stereotype to a T" you open yourself up to this kind of sarcastic ridicule.
I couldn't care less if you make money on pins and I do it myself. Cause after all...we both fit the pinhead stereotype to a T.

Okay, I can cheers to that.

#487 9 years ago
Quoted from Captain_Kirk:

Looks and plays like an EM. Not for me, but if that was the intention, I'd say mission accomplished

No, it really doesn't!

#488 9 years ago
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

I don't really want to buy something where I loose interest quickly, especially at that price.

Then it's simply not the game for you.

#489 9 years ago

The video is lousy but the game looks better than I expected from what people were saying. It seems pretty fast for an EM style game. Simple doesn't mean it's not fun, though I need to play it to see if it's to my liking.

$6500 seems high, but it has a nice art package (though the theme isn't to my taste), is certainly unique and could be rare if they don't sell/make many.

#490 9 years ago

Best part of that video is when the ball ALMOST goes between the 2 upper yellow lanes......Intense! I literally shrieked so loud with excitement it scared my dog. I will say the artwork does look cool! Def cool for what it is.

#491 9 years ago

That music is grating even just watching the video.

#492 9 years ago

At that price, Nellie better give me a massage and make me a sandwich

#493 9 years ago

I think it's cool that Stern is taking a chance with this.

Is it really my type of pin? No.

But I'm always amazed at the level of love/hate shown when they release something new. There's never really gray with most on here, just black and white.

We all know it won't sell for the MSRP, meaning it'll be in the $5300-5500 range. Too much? Maybe.

But then we're people who routinely spend $4000-8000 for some pretty big uni-tasking toys that most of the population probably think we're nuts for owning.

#494 9 years ago

I would like to see a video with some one that plays pins with 2" flippers on a regular basis.

#495 9 years ago

Is it just a 1-player game? I only see one set of score reels. I wish it was a game you could at least use for competition. I can't imagine that it's actually $6499, that makes no sense.

#496 9 years ago

I have a buddy who has played the original and said it was a fun game and he'll probably buy it. Me, not at that price, but I also don't have unlimited space or funds, I do need max fun for the $$$. I do applaud Stern for producing it though!!

#497 9 years ago
Quoted from mattenno:

Think they said its a 4 player game

#498 9 years ago

It doesn't look too bad.....not worth all the HATORADE it's getting on here. I know I know....price price price blah blah blah. I don't ever see it in my collection but Id play it all day in someone else's. The pops look to keep the ball active and there are some "skill" shots off the plunge that look fun to shoot for. To me it's just a cool piece of pinball love....nothing wrong with that. Right?!

#499 9 years ago

That pin should be great for people who suffer from insomnia...should put you right to sleep

Seriously, its a pretty pin, nice to have an original design, but that looks priced about $4k more than it should be.
