I'd do one too.
Quoted from jrpinball:Based on past experience, $700-750.
According to Wade, it should be about $700 which includes shipping.
Wade has picked up a couple of more people on his own, so he's going to order inserts and plan on doing Sky Jump later in the year. In the meantime, anyone with interest should make their intentions known here for the time being.
Thanks
If you can get twenty people on board I'm sure he'd consider it, but I don't think the fact that it's similar to Sky Jump changes that number. I will ask him about it though, the next time I'm in touch with him.
Do these ship overseas (Australia)?
This is tempting as my p/f is trashed, but so is everything else....
Lee at pinball rescue Brisbane made a beautiful repro plastic set and my backglass is good apart from the oranges.......It's kind of a hard decision as this is such a top shelf wedgehead.....I might just be better off waiting for a better example to turn up.

Wade told me two of the people he has committed are from Australia, so I would say that it is safe to say yes.
So am I the only one interested in free fall? As the playfield is identical it would be just a change in 2 screens max, everything else would be the same.
I guess worst case I can have someone alter and clear it. How long before this project is done?
Pinball rescue is sold out off plastic sets. Anyone have a spare?

It will probably be closer to the end of the year. First comes Knock out and then Atlantis.
OK happy Sky Jump players. I just noticed that the right side roll overs that score 1000 points when lit. Has what looks like a propeller design, in red, in the art work. Hey, it could just be me?

Oh yeah, I never noticed that. Good catch
Crap, that means inserts would be different between sky jump and free fall. I'm out unless wayde makes free fall.
Quoted from jrpinball:Maybe he can do both. The blanks would be identical I would think. Not much difference in the artwork either.
I asked Wade about the Free Fall. He said he would consider doing it after Sky Jump if twenty people or more were interested.
Just about every "FF" has a planked PF, so there's shouldn't be a problem scaring up 20 takers. Not that the repops are cheap, and there is a large amount of labor involved in the swap-out, but so many ratty copies could be saved. As noted above, there's a difference between the replay and aab versions. It's more than graphics, but I don't think it would be insurmountable for him to do the aab with little modification.
I'll take a Free Fall, even though there were only 650 made. I've also committed to Sky Jump, a machine I could buy now.
That's 5 free falls. The inserts in the right lanes are different as is some of the text...it's simpler and could be done with one small screen, but the black, red and blue layers will need to be slightly different.
Mine is planked bad and would be an almost total re paint.

Hmm, just had a thought. What if Wade, or others who are reproducing playfields would take an original, sanded smooth by the customer, and simply screen on the graphics and finish coat?

the big issue with that idea is if the inserts are sunken in below the depth of the top layer of veneer. sanding flat would expose the raw plywood layer
Yeah, obviously not all playfields could be used, but if there were certain guidelines that could be met before sending him the blank, many could be reused. Either that, or the inserts would need to be leveled first. It would be rather easy to do with no artwork on the playfield.
If you note Wade's process, he seems to prefer to do the screening to the playfield prior to any slots or holes (except for the inserts) being cut.
My guess is this has two pluses: First, it protects his screens from damage, and Second, probably provides better registration throughout the surface.
IF you can get someone to scan and fix the art, remember, John Greatwhich up in Canada does the re-ink thing and was at one point, hungry for Gottlieb artwork. This is always an option for titles that would otherwise, never meet the 20+ commitment runs.
Yes, sunken inserts would certainly be a problem when it came to the clear coat stage (which Wade also does via silkscreen, not spray).

Exactly! This causes more work for Wade.
For limited runs it seems odd to bother to protect the screens like this unless you are registering the holes to the art instead of the other way around.
Guys...I was at Wades shop on Friday and the Knock out playfields are done and look beautiful. He will soon start printing Atlantis. He is doing some last minute tweeks, But then......SKY JUMP!!! Its going to happen sooner than we think!
Quoted from Electrocute:Whats after Sky Jump? Maybe Crosstown, Wizard, 2001, Sing Along
Wade is not sure. There is is lots of interest in Abra Ca Dabra, 2001, and C37. Most definitely will be a Gottlieb game.
Update on sky jump playfield is that Wade is going to do it. I've been to the shop and have seen the wood and inserts for it. Now that Wade is 90% done with Atlantis, he will start working on a new playfield. Wade's thought is he might do 2001 first, because he said it will be really easy to do, then do Sky Jump. But he's not sure which one he will do. My suggestion is contact Wade and ask him about deposit etc... Hope this helps.

How hard would it be to get a set of the numbered inserts for Sky Jump? Just curious.
Quoted from Otaku:How hard would it be to get a set of the numbered inserts for Sky Jump? Just curious.
Brand new, nearly impossible as Wade would have to build a playfield, screen the black key lines, and then knock the inserts back out to sell to you (probably cost you about $500! since he wouldn't have to do the other colors).
Instead, put the feeler out that you are looking and when others start swapping out their playfields, perhaps someone with a really wood worn playfield will be willing to sell you the inserts.
Quoted from Otaku:How hard would it be to get a set of the numbered inserts for Sky Jump?
I don't think he would do that at all. But you would need to go through Wade.
Quoted from d0n:Keep us updated on the skyjump PFs please. Is there a deposit needed?
I have an email out to Wade. I will let you know when I get an answer.
Quoted from Topcard:I have an email out to Wade. I will let you know when I get an answer.
thanks. I don't even know who wade is. LOL.
Quoted from d0n:thanks. I don't even know who wade is. LOL.
Wade is Wade Krause, the guy who makes the playfields. https://pinballplayfields.wordpress.com/
I'm I need if anyone has a beater to part with or knows where one is, I did an Eldorado already, doing Gold Strike now, Atlantis next, his playfields are a pleasure to swap,
Looks likes I'm in the market for a 2001, I think that will be Wade's next playfield. Sky Jump will have to wait, no big deal.
I asked Wade if he needed deposits for Sky Jump yet and here's what he told me:
"If people are on a waiting list, I will make a board for them. Once I am ready to start, I'll let you know and we'll get a final count. I'm only supposed to make 30. If there are more people than that, I'll have to work out something with Steve Young and the licensing fellow Bob."
It's probably still at least a couple of months out as he has other non pinball related work to do first.
