No lie, I actually like McCartney better with Wings and his solo work than his time with the Beatles.

LP between either band: "Exile on Main Street"

Quoted from usandthem:

The Beatles are incomparable. They didn't just change music, but they changed the world by influencing art, culture, and politics. They went from "Love Me Do" to "Come Together" in 5 years. Any of their albums from Rubber Soul on would be any other group's best album. They're like the Addams Family pinball of popular music. Addams influenced all games that would come after in the same way that The Beatles influenced all music that would come after. Every group for the last 50 years has been influenced either directly or indirectly by The Beatles. Musicians who say that they weren't influenced by The Beatles were influenced by someone who was. The Stones spent the 60's trying to copy The Beatles. They only came into their own after The Beatles broke up.
The Beatles can't be beaten in any comparison contest.

Yes they can. Stones blow them away. Period.

I like the Stones
I love the Beatles....

Quoted from lpeters82:

Yeah, I'm not saying he didn't have albums. I just feel that prevalence of singles could be a big reason for the disparity between the figures which I was quoting above. I mean if you ask the average person to name Elvis albums, how many do you think they will come up with? My guess is not many. I think the Beatles albums are more widely known: Abbey Road, Sgt. Papper's Revolver, Rubber Soul, The White Album, etc. It was just a guess, but I'll have to dig into the figures.
Elvis
Studio Albums: 24
Singles: 111
The Beatles
Studio Albums: 23
Singles: 63
I'm not even saying that as a bad thing, or a dig a Elvis. I just think it's not fair to use total diamond, platinum, and gold sales as an accurate metric for greatest artist. Elvis is clearly leading that due to his shear number of singles released. After looking into the statistics now, I feel anything having to do with album sales give the edge to The Beatles. I don't think it's close. Elvis' best selling, and only diamond, album was his Christmas Album. The Beatles have six, second to only Garth Brooks.

Records are records. Why do you feel albums are superior to singles?

Quoted from vid1900:

#1 hits:
Elvis Presley = 21
Beatles = 17

I’m the biggest Big E fan around, he was every bit as original, big, important, revolutionary and influential as the Beatles, but how many of those #1’s did he write?

Was Elvis just a singer for teenage girls?

#160 1 year ago
Quoted from tamoore:

Elvis copied R&B singers, and his music was welcomed into the suburbs because of factors unrelated to his music. He made it "safe", and opened the floodgates to terrible white copy artists like Pat Boone... I don't think he's an influence for the right reasons, personally.

So many bad freaking takes in this thread. Just do some research for chrissakes. It’s not that hard people. The facts are there. The world didn’t start in 1990. But I’ll bet every band but Nirvana from the 90’s will be forgotten, while Elvis lives forever.

And not because he “stole from the blacks”. Jesus, that’s just such a bad take and so not true. Even more than “the Beatles were a boy band”. Lol and smh.

Elvis was an artist, a TOTAL and unprecedented original and a revolutionary. Elvis burned hotter and brighter than anyone. It took real guts to do what he did, the way he did it. He paid his dues, and changed the world. Pat Boone? Come on man!!

Quoted from vid1900:

That's for sure.
They used to sit in a room with 3 other of John's boy friends, and jack off together.
You'd never find that kind of magic between Keith and Mick.

Vid, I love ya, but sometimes your like a friend I had in college. He’d spout a bunch of shit, high on meth or DMT, and sound like he actually knew something about music. And then I’D finally read that week’s copy of Spin magazine, and see where he got all his stories.

I read that GQ article too Vid. But I came away with the idea that, shit, Maccas pretty brave to tell that story about when they were all 14 or 15, didn’t know shit about anything thing let alone girls, and we’re experimenting with their sexuality. Maybe Macca wasn’t made to feel like a bad little sinner for every sensual human thing he did as a child.

What is this? Who’s #1 after Led Zeppelin? Always interesting to get peoples take on bands of their time. It seems there is a period in our lives where we identify with a style of music, and nothing will match it again.

Elvis, Beatles, Stones... yawn. Give me some Bon Scott AC/DC any rocking day of the week! Interesting how nobody has brought up the Eagles- or is it..

Props to the Metric reference. They did get a big boost with Scott Pilgrim VS. the World soundtrack.

To say that Elvis was a better rock musician than the Beatles or the Stones is really laughable and I do enjoy and respect what Elvis did.

Elvis was a very basic rudimentary guitar player who relied heavily on his backing band. Most competent musicians to this day have a hard time re-creating the Beatles unique sound.

Elvis wasn’t a songwriter, don’t think he wrote any of his hits whereas the Beatles whether Lennon, sir Paul or Harrison wrote most of their catalogue.

Where Elvis shined was the era he started in, very good unique voice and an incredible stage presence.

The real question is Beatles vs Stones?

Beatles better song writers

Stones as a whole better technical musicians, although Paul was a better bass player than Wyman

Stones Better stage presence thanks to Mick

I think I give the very slight edge to the Stones and I really do love the Beatles.

Paul is on an interview tour right now, and every show he has been on, everyone has asked him about the circle jerks, and OUT OF HIS OWN MOUTH he has gladly retold those stories.

He even confirmed that the band secretly watched George Harrison lose his virginity, and that they all applauded when he unloaded.

That's rock-n-roll gold right there.

I like my pop stars to have mud sharks, circle jerks, chainsaws, car wrecks, wife swaps, and overdoses.

Yes, I read the article. My take is that you’re propagating this as if the Beatles had “circle jerks” and had them routinely. A clear reading of what Paul said - at least what GQ printed - indicates there was no “circle”. They weren’t watching each other or jizzing on each other. It was dark, they were sitting in furniture as it sat in the house and it happened at most twice. Paul really only clearly recollects one time. And they were young teenagers. They weren’t even the “Beatles” then, because it sounds like it happened when they were like 14 years old. The story is clear that neither George nor Ringo were there.

It’s a weird freaking story man, but we all have a few. It doesn’t define him, the Beatles or anything else, so why do you hammer on it like it was a common thing or relevant at all to the Beatles and their music?

God only knows what depraved things they did in Hamburg, when they were rougher, tougher, wilder and more vulgar and unruly than Led Zep or the Stones could ever dream to be. Teenage girls weren’t even allowed into the first group of clubs they played, before their reputation grew so big that they got to play bigger, better clubs that younger people could go to. They originally played for mobsters and drunks and pickpockets and drug dealers and sailors and prostitutes. For 8 hours a night. They basically cut their teeth playing on a nightly basis for the equivalent of the Hells Angels for the first 2 years of their career.

Boy band indeed.

It's a funny story that is currently on TV, radio and magazines.

The Beatles have been broken up for a 1/2 century, so any new anything is great.

It shows how close John and Paul used to be, that's valuable as history tends to get re-written when money is involved.

The fact that Paul is taking live calls about it, and having fun with it, shows how game he still is.

Pretty cool for a 76 year old grandfather!

This I agree with 1,000%. If I’ve misinderstood your previous posts or motive I apologize. You’re clearly a big musician fan with a fine sensibility, good taste and broad knowledge. But I will take issue with sensationalism and your sourcing of proven false evidence against Michael Jackson. The REAL facts are there for anyone who makes the effort. Propagating the fake evidence just lowers you a notch. You have so much to offer, but your persistent trolling with the fake MJ “evidence” insists that I question what the fuck is going on in your head.

If a 9 year old boy says his penis is "spotted like a pony", then the cops photograph his penis and it's spotted like a pony......

I'm so happy he's dead.

Real evidence photos from the LAPD of his bedroom where they found his corpse.

Ok, yeah that’s messed up. Children can be tough point for testimonials though, they can be baited into details. I’m pretty sure Joe did some awful things to him as a child, but it doesn’t give one the excuse to repeat those behaviours.

Then I’m guessing you also have issue with Pete Townshend?

#184 1 year ago

Black Sabbath.

...but in THIS debate, I gotta go with the Beatles. They have more interesting songs and a deeper musical range than the Stones, IMO. Great solo careers too, but maybe that shouldn't factor into this. It's band vs. band, after all.

Regarding Elvis... He is an icon, for sure. He had influence on stage presence and performance. But as far as the musical aspect is concerned, I think Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and many blues musicians had more influence than Elvis, especially on the British Invasion bands.

Of course I don't like his "interests", and he has terrible judgement because he is an idiot, but we have to not confuse 2 things.

A Pedophile is someone with a sexual attraction to children.

A Pedophile Rapist is someone who acts upon that attraction with a child.

I'm starting to question your fever to defend him.

Why did they not convict OJ for slaughtering 2 human beings? It was not for lack of evidence (they had DNA evidence of Ron Goldman's blood in OJ's bathroom sink (if you were too young to remember)).

In the States, rich people get a very different justice than if you were IDed by a 9 year old with a spotted penis.

PSA: Just as a tidbit that may help some of you:

A few months ago I was at a seminar about electronic evidence collection/protection at a scene.

A broad who worked for the FBI was talking about never turning on a computer before the drives have been cloned so that their initial state could be preserved.

She covered a bunch of law enforcement stuff that does not apply to our work, but did mention something of interest.

Although Anime does not in any way mean someone is into child porn, the presence of Anime on a subjects' computer ALWAYS warrants further investigation due to "higher correlation"

There was certainly some uncomfortable laughter in the room.

So if you guys have any kind of **stuff** on your computer, make SURE your desktop is not Oh My Goddess.

No conviction. No evidence. Explain that. The O.J. trial was botched from the get go. They HAD evidence up the ass in the O.J. trial and still fucked it up.

The MJ trial was stacked against MJ and they still couldn’t convict him. The entire weight of the District Attorneys office and the polic dept. was against him, and they couldn’t prove shit. In fact their efforts were routinely dismissed in court because they were so weak. Because all the “evidence” was either staged, coached, faked or non-existent.

And here’s the story of the only other case that ever had any shred of possibility. And it was bullshit too.

https://mjjtruthnow.wordpress.com/2014/05/20/was-michael-jackson-framed-the-defining-1994-gq-article-by-mary-a-fischer-that-set-the-record-straight-on-the-1993-allegations/

I support MJ because no one has ever proven he was a child molester. In fact, not even close. And he was exonerated on ALL counts (there were like, 14) and your attempts to perpetuate the myth over the facts is just pathetic. MJ was one of the most amazing American artists in history. One of the most succesful Americans in history. And yet a true tragic figure. This country should be ashamed at the way they treated him. And so should you.

The DA and the police tried oh so hard to portray all the ‘evidence” as damning, when by law, none of it was deemed child pornography. Or gay pornography. Or illegal pornography. Thank god the opinion of crooked cops and a crooked DA still has to pass the sniff test in a court of law. The judge called bullshit on all their shenanigans, and the jury - white and conservative- saw through the sham and exonerated MJ. On every. single. count.

I read your linked article. Good read. Obviously he got acquitted for a reason.

The only disturbing part about these online articles, I searched to see if there was in fact evidence against him. According to the article I found, there was. Goes to show you can always find an article to fit your agenda.

With that being said, I still think it’s a bit unclear if MJ did anything. If he did, there in fact doesn’t seem to be strong enough evidence.
