That Waldo's Special Ale is my favorite beer ever...turned me into a double IPA fan forever. I have 4 left and its time to stop hoarding them so in the fridge they go for the holiday weekend.

Also Little Sumpin Extra tastes like a 'little Waldos' to me, very similar flavor profile but not as intense. Great substitute till next April.

#1089 6 years ago

And now I have 3 left

#1096 6 years ago

I wasn't the biggest fan of this the first time I tried it, but today it tastes like a different beer and I am liking it a lot.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Hard to beat the overall value in this one. $12 and it tastes like it should be $20

Excellent beer, and these are only 9$ or so a bomber at Costco...

#1120 6 years ago

Here's what's currently in the beer fridge in my gameroom... still plenty of hops in there, I love imperial IPAs, but as the weather dips the stouts will start taking over.

IMG_1466 (resized).JPGIMG_1466 (resized).JPG

#1122 6 years ago
Quoted from High_End_Pins:

I am heading back to 2013.
It was a lousy year for me. My old trusty shop truck blew up,someone bought my old shop and canceled the lease(didn’t give a renewal option after 8 years there), my older brother died unexpectedly at 43,my youngest son was hospitalized and diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. All in that order !
Anyway I plan on erasing that year every chance I get so I am starting here but there is a long ways to go

Dude sorry to hear all this, we need to dip into my cellar for the beers I'd offer you for dealing with all that bad mojo.

The Mayan Mocha is brewed with coffee nutmeg chocolate and habanero peppers. I always keep some stocked. They make a bourbon barrel aged version...haven't seen that one in a long time but found Imperial Mayan just this week which I'm eager to try. That BBA Old Stock looks fantastic... i've only starting cellaring beers this year so have not had the chance to appreciate what a few years age can do.

#1125 6 years ago

This is tasting really special, I plan to put some away for a year or two but I don't know if I can keep my hands off it that long.

Another great Michigan craft beer tonight...

My dealer had my fix a few weeks ago, Still enjoying it

Lucky !! Sure wish I could get some of that here. Maybe it's possible but I've not seen it.

Quoted from PhilC:

This is one of those beers that seems like it would age well, but unfortunately it does not. It is one of my favorite seasonal releases, but honestly it gains nothing in the cellar, and lost the sharp edges that I enjoyed when it was fresh. No need to keep your hands off, save some bourbon county instead, that needs some time to mellow out!

That's good to know, thank you for telling me. All Backwoods Bastards, into the beer fridge!

#1141 6 years ago

These Dank Juices are all pretty tasty!

IMG_1571 (resized).JPGIMG_1571 (resized).JPG

One day of 55 degree weather here in Michigan, the patio was calling me. This stout alone would be a bit cloyingly sweet for me but paired with a cigar it was quite nice.

#1351 6 years ago
Quoted from mcluvin:

Did ya mix it with something? Maybe OJ? Never seen an IPA that color.

That's straight out of the can, a New England double IPA. M43 is the regular NEIPA they make and is also great. Hazy is the style.

#1353 6 years ago
Quoted from Irishbastard:

Looks normal to me, looks like a "Juicy" DIPA...Yummy

It is super juicy, really amazing.

Went to the release party this year at the Detroit location. Worked out great!

Well since we're showing off!! I just hit my local spots last week, did pretty good I think.

#1395 6 years ago
Quoted from jgentry:

How is this years KBS tasting? Any news on a CBS release?

I think it is more chocolate forward than last year, hard to recall exactly. I have one bottle from last year and plan to do a side by side comparison.

Quoted from jgentry:

Release day in TN. Also found a few CBS bombers hidden behind some other bottles.

Wow, nice haul!

#1407 6 years ago

This one has really amazing barrel flavor, but it is very very boozy.

#1412 6 years ago

It's back! Been waiting almost a year for this one...wasn't sure if it could live up to the self imposed hype I have been giving it since 420 last year when I found it....but yes it still is my favorite beer, ever.

Quoted from ultimategameroom:

Picked up two cases of Waldo yesterday.

Awesome. I have two cases as well, although I gathered it from multiple places. I can almost have one a week till next April, but they won't be lasting that long.

#1433 6 years ago
Quoted from mcluvin:

I almost picked up some of this Friday. Reading the reviews, it just doesn't sound good to me. Couldn't do it.

remove your avatar now!! just kidding, but really dude if you like Lagunitas at all the Waldos is as good as it gets, period.

#1441 6 years ago
Quoted from mcluvin:

Ha! I like to read the Beer Advocate reviews and the term "dank" came up a little too often. I guess it was meant in a good way, but it just didn't sound good to me Maybe I'll grab some next time if they still have it.

If you have had Little Sumpin' Extra, that is very similar flavor profile, for me, just more of it. Plenty of sweetness to balance the hops. Everybodys palate and likes are different but at this price you can't go wrong.

#1444 6 years ago

Finally found some (Boxer)...they renamed it. Delicious.

Quoted from Bowlingpin:

So damn good, better than last years born again..

Just finished my last one from last year, lol. Guess i will look for a twelver.

#1453 5 years ago

Honestly a little underwelmed by this one. It is good, but not alot of barrel flavor and hops are very diminished.

IMG_3251 (resized).JPGIMG_3251 (resized).JPG

#1455 5 years ago

It is...dank resinous hops...Waldos is nice and dank...Dankwood not really. Founders Redankulous is much more 'dank'.

#1459 5 years ago
Quoted from PinballJeff:

You're right - it was Swillie that commented that it "could" last year at one a week. I'm sure that won't be the case. I've had some IPA's that I haven't noticed much change with age, but this one definitely fell off.

No, no it wont...about 15 gone already i am in agreement, drink these while they are fresh. Wish they made them all year but too good to horde.

#1486 5 years ago
Quoted from Irishbastard:

Mule came through.... Nothing like the OG of NEDIPA's....

Oh c'mon !!

#1498 5 years ago

On a fast train to happy fricken' town now...amazing what a year did for this one. Wow.

#1513 5 years ago

That beer looks very well balanced

IMG_3377 (resized).JPGIMG_3377 (resized).JPG

#1522 5 years ago
Quoted from mcluvin:

Yeah. Funny how different microbrews all come in the same kinda packaging now. Kudos to Heineken though. That is some nasty f'n beer, but they've owned Lagunitas for about a year now and haven't f'd it up as far as I can tell. Truthfully, I think distribution has gotten better.

I agree, same great beer and from what I have seen just more of it.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

First time having this one.
Usually not an IPA guy but the Rum Barrels seemed to have added a little sweetness and turned down the hops.

Very different, tastes a bit like tequila in that one...wasn't thrilled with it at first taste but ended up really enjoying the four pack.

1 week later
#1594 5 years ago

Lol!! Pretty cool, is there a 'sit down' model?

#1601 5 years ago

This one surprised me, very tasty stuff. I poured it in the glass just to show the color, but to be honest I like this one better right out of the bottle for some reason .

IMG_4272.JPGIMG_4272.JPG

#1605 5 years ago
Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Damn. I don’t think you could have fit another drop in that glass.
Seeing plenty of this 2018 release around here so far.
Seems a little smoother than last years.
[quoted image]

That's a 12oz glass exactly. The Backwoods is nice and now that it is brewed year round is going to be easy to keep stocked. I am still going thru last years release, will have to try the new one side by side with it.

#1616 5 years ago
