Quoted from Deaconblooze:

How often do you have to clean the lines? Difficulty?
I've been debating whether to get a kegerator or not for a loooong time..

Cleaning the lines is not hard at all. Takes a little time but again it's not hard!

Whether or not to buy a system, depends on how much you drink and what beers you drink! Domestic beers typically last 30-45 days. A lot of beers you can get in a sixth barrel (2.2 cases of beer) which is nice! When you get into the beers that are not available in a sixth you need to make sure you can drink 4-7.5 cases of beer within that 30-45 day window or you will be wasting beer!

If you decide to go with a system look in Craigslist as they're often up for sale as a lot of people buy them only to find out that they don't use them often enough. I was already to buy a commercial unit for 1200$ but the guy I was purchasing from sold me on a used larger unit (3 taps) for 500$. He had taken the unit in on trade as the person upgraded their business with a walk in unit. For 500$ the guy cleaned the unit, added all new lines, included the couplers and taps. When I redid my bar I replaced the 3 taps with a 6 tap tower. Its great to be able to have a party and put 6 different beers on tap!!!

One thing to consider when purchasing a system is their is additional cost for things like couplers, tanks, spouts etc. For example different companies use different couplers. Last time I checked there were 7 different couplers. One beer that comes to mind is Guinness. To have Guinness on tap you need a special coupler, tap/spout and it takes Co2/nitro mix. If you're someone that just drinks domestic then you just need a US Sankey!

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to PM me. Always willing to help out!

Just put Weihenstephaner Vitus on tap. If you ever get a chance to have this on tap it's well worth it. Very good tasting beer with an even better after taste. Hard to believe it has a 7.7% ABV

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/iron-maidens-trooper-beer-to-be-canned-for-u-s-market/
Have not tried this beer yet but have bottle in fridge. Iron Maiden can version coming to states.

JotR, it's a very weak Ale. Not bad but not a lot of flavor! The can states on it "Charged with Flavor" so I wonder if the cans will have the "widget" in it that disperses nitro upon opening the can. If this is the case it would make it a creamier ale and may provide the much more needed flavor.

Here's a beer I had that has a lot of flavor and is very smooth to drink. . . .

Did you get any of the Coffee, Barleywine or Vanilla?
Im really looking for a Prop but they were only released in chicago
I also agree on Iron maiden. It made me want to run to the hills.

Actually no Black Friday. Have someone in the business that gave me some.
I haven't tried the others as of yet. I always liked the Stout so I get it every year! It reminds me of the Thomas Hardy!

How is the cigar City beer, have not been able to find them out here yet.

I have had only their Maduro which is the Brown Ale and it's not bad at all. Good tasting brown ale at 5.5%

Quoted from Jackontherocks:

I loved the Goose before Budweiser bought them out.

If it's any consolation AB ruined Rolling Rock as well. Rolling Rock was never a great beer but it wasn't bad. Once AB bought them something changed! I was hoping when InBev bought out AB this would change as InBev has some great beers but nothing as of yet!

I'm kinda surprised that you guys have been posting about beer for years in this thread and no one has even mentioned the undoubtedly best beer in the world! http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/252/731/
The brewery ist just 10 min. driving distance from my place...
PastedGraphic-1.jpg

I mentioned this beer on another thread as I purchased a half barrel (50l) of this last year for a party I had. It's a great beer but here in the States it's not the easiest of beers to buy as the place that imports forces Wholesalers to purchase a minimum amount of barrels. I had a representative from the Brewery try to help to no avail. I wound up getting the barrel from another Wholesaler 2 hours from me that had one in stock. For the best rated beer in the world it shouldn't be so hard to get!

Will trade for bcbs barley wine

PM me with what you have and an offer and see if we can work something out! I actually am not a fan of the Barley. The guy offered it up to me so I took it!

Quoted from Jackontherocks:

I still have an original bottle before Budweisre A Busch bought them out. Goose use to be one of my favorites micro breweries but feel the taste is not the same since buy out.

I have a bottle of the BCBS for the years 2007-2015. Have a gentleman that might sell me a 2006!

A lot of people say the same about Rolling Rock! After AB bought RR and moved production to NJ people complained the taste was different! Now the old Rolling Rock plant produces beers like Guinness Blonde, Iron City, Southampton brands and Stoney's

Just completed a vertical of Thomas Hardy's Ale! Now have at least one bottle from every year it was produced back to 1968! If you're not familiar with this beer it's one of the few beers that continues to mature up to 25 years (almost like a wine)!

June/July is the plan to start opening them up! Also have a small vertical of Goose Island Bourbon County Barrel Stout (06-15) but my understanding is this beer only matures for up to 5 years. Also have read that it goes sour.

Quoted from Jackontherocks:

Here are a few that have been with me awhile waiting to open.

I have few verticals of some of the ones you have:
JW Lees: 1996 to 2015
Goose Island BCBS: 2006 - 2015
Old Stock Ale: 2012 - 2016
Also have Samuel Smith Stingo: 2009 - 2014

Bad thing about Goose Island is, from what I have read, it doesn't last. It supposedly has a shelf life of only 5 years but I have read that people say after 2-3 years its bad! We shall see!

After almost 30 hours of hard labor the past 2 days I think I'll down a few of these! It's not Shiner Bock, but it's cold and in my fridge. If it's not Texas beer, I try not to drink it.

Well its technically a Missouri beer as it's Brewed by Anheuser-Busch (even more technical it's a Belgium beer as AB is owned by InBev) but they subcontract it to a brewery in Houston! Remember when beer use to be easy??

#1033 7 years ago
Quoted from 30FathomDave:

I picked this up last night. Multi-tap system coming soon!

Scour the internet (places like Craigslist, Letgo etc) for a used tower. You can get a 6 tap tower for a lot cheaper than a new 2 tap tower! 6 taps is a bit overkill for the home but I use all 6 for a few parties I have during the course of the year! Nice to be able to put a selection on and with sixth barrels it allows you not to have too much beer for bigger parties!

Quoted from Frippertron:

What do you guys think of temperature? Most people in the U.S. throw all their beer in the fridge no matter what it is. Try big imperial stouts, barleywine, old ale, and Belgian strong ales closer to room temperature. Most beers that are lower in alcohol or lighter in color taste better colder. Pilsner, pale ales, lower abv ipas, even Belgian Tripels are nice on the colder side, but never ice cold. Serving beer ice cold numbs your taste buds, so if you have an awesome Belgian beer you have been waiting to try, you might as well let it warm up for an hour or so or it's a waste. If you want a thirst quencher, there are plenty of good beers for that too, like Franziskaner Hefe.

Agree, a lot of beers are better around room temperature. What i have been doing is chilling a glass and then pouring the beer, that is room temperature, into the chilled glass.

Quoted from trilogybeer:

How was this ? Came accross stingo for the first time tonight , not from 2014 but maybe I should pick some up ? Got some Samuel Smith , but I got a four pack of one of my fovorites from them .

I always liked the Stingo. Have, well had, 4 bottles of each year going back to 2009. Problem is....aging them is a hit or miss. The 2014 I had last night was sour. First one out of the 4 I had from 2014.

If you go to buy a Stingo stay away from the 2013. The had to have a bacteria issue or something as every bottle I had from that year tasted bad!

In my opinion you can’t go wrong with Sam Smith. They make some good beers!

Let me know what you think! Starting with the 2015 bottles they changed the labels as the original labels looked a lot like their Taddy Porter. I will also say that the 2015 appears to be darker in color than in the past!

Cheers

Appreciate the offer. Let me know.

That my gfs favorite bruery beer

The Bruery makes some great beers!

Quoted from AAAV8R:

Good thing the bottle says "CONTAINS ALCOHOL" or someone drinking it may never have figured it out.

well have to realize we live in the "it's not my fault" era so if they dont put that on there and someone drinks too much, goes out and drives large machinery and kills someone they cant say "well the Bruery should've told me there was alcohol in their beer" (but not really)

I am a huge fan of Samuel Smith (Nut Brown Ale, Oatmeal Stout, Taddy Porter and Stingo) and, up till now, it's never been available in anything other than bottles. Just recently they started to ship barrels to the State in very limited quantities so I snagged up a barrel of the Nut Brown. Apparently Winter Welcome is next!

IMG_E0030[1] (resized).JPGIMG_E0030[1] (resized).JPG

#1559 5 years ago
Quoted from ultimategameroom:

That is great to hear! I love all their beers especially the nut brown.

Yeah took me by suprise. I was able to get the last barrel the wholesaler had. The Nut Brown actually came to the States in late April and was "Draught Release No. 002". Not sure what No. 001 was but Winter Welcome will be No. 003 and released in late August.

Quoted from ultimategameroom:

At 13.2 gallons I guess it’s a little smaller than the American half kegs.

Correct, it's a 50L so just a little smaller than a half

Quoted from ultimategameroom:

What did you pay less the keg deposit?

I believe it was 220$

Quoted from ultimategameroom:

What style tap does it take?

Type “A” (German Slider) Coupler

SamSmith002 (resized).JPGSamSmith002 (resized).JPGSamSmith002.2 (resized).JPGSamSmith002.2 (resized).JPG
#1562 5 years ago
Quoted from ultimategameroom:

140 12oz beers for $220 seems very fair! Especially for Sammy Smiths!
I stopped buying kegs due To : less guests coming over and guests who prefer different styles.

I tell everyone to reconsider a draft system as most don't consume enough beer to justify it. I on the other hand have/had a minimum of two events every year where I went through 7-12 barrels of beer. Also, today a lot of breweries make sixtels (2.2 case) so you can have barrel beer and drink it before it goes bad. Which leads to your next question.........

Quoted from ultimategameroom:

Most people couldn’t tell but after two weeks I could taste a slight flavor change even though I had a CO2 tank and the pressure was correct. Do you have similar issues or do you and your guests go thru barrels fast enough that it isn’t an issue?

MOST people will never tell after two weeks as most beers aren't really affected until 3-4 weeks or longer. Of course this all depends on style of beer you're serving. I've had some "aged" beers on tap for 6 weeks and due to the low carbonation they stayed pretty much in tact.

Very nice! I can’t wait to get my hands on some of those again. So tasty but so hard to get unless you want to spend a lot of money! Any Belgians on here willing to get on the waiting list for me?

Waiting list? My daughter walked into a Belgium establishment and just bought it for me.

#1790 5 years ago
Quoted from JayDee:

That’s awesome! I’ll have to seek out if there’s a place like that around Chicago. Unless they changed something, you can only buy the beer from the monastery itself as they don’t distribute anywhere. And there’s a waiting list to even purchase it, with a case (24 bottle) limit per group at their appointment time. Apparently the wait is months. Plus the monastery only brews enough to cover the costs to keep the place running and nothing more for profit. So once their run is out, it’s out for the year. Your Belgian establishment must have a connection to keep them stocked. Cheers!!

To clarify ..... my daughter was in Belgium and just went into an establishment and they had it!

But, a few years ago they actually sold Westvleteren XII here in the States in a package deal. What happened is the Brewery had a fire so in order to raise funds to rebuild the monks allowed it to be sold in the States to raise funds.

There were reports in late 2017 that the beer was coming back to the States but I never heard anything further. I sent the importer an email today to see if this ever happened!

I discovered some pretty good French beers these last years. Despite being french, I was a bit sceptical before that and prefered Belgian beers.

I just came back from France, visiting my daughter, and the only beers I found in France I liked were from other countries. Not knocking France at all as I understand the French are more of wine drinkers.

Unibroue is French Canadian.

Valid point, they make some good beers!

Quoted from mcluvin:

Beer is cheaper than Coke in France, so they've at least got that going for them.

Which coke are you speaking of First time to France I was taken back as you read/hear about how the French has a dislike for Americans but yet they're so enamored by American Pop Culture. Coke being the front runner but right behind Coke is Levi's. You see more Levi's t-shirts in Paris alone then in the US!

Lastly, whats the deal with the French not wearing shorts! Even on days where it was warm/hot out everyone wears jeans/pants and has a jacket on!

Anyone try the Sam Adams Utopias beer yet?

I have had a few bottles of it, just recently picked up a bottle of the 10th Anniversary but have yet to open it. The Utopia is very good bu, as way2wyrd stated, it's more like a liquor (think cognac or brandy). The 2019 Edition was just released on the 15th so bottles are now out there. It's a steep price ($220 msrp) but one of those you have to try once.

That’s the drawback as you don’t taste it. Very smooth and easy to drink. Just don’t want to operate heavy equipment after a few.

Quoted from pinballjj:

when i used to homebrew about 35 years ago this was always my standard for a good stout( along with guiness) and i could never quite replicate. its still pretty damn good!![quoted image]

Agree, Sam Smith beers are very good. Was lucky to be able to purchase the Nut Brown and Oatmeal barrels when Sam Smith imported them to the States for a short period.

#2071 4 years ago
Quoted from pinballjj:

mini kegs? nice!!

No, Half Barrels. Sam Smith never produced barrels in its 250+ years for export. They did it back in 2017 for brand recognition in the States only. To my knowledge they haven't done it again.

Quoted from way2wyrd:

It was almost drinkable. If it had been the last one we probably would have downed it

Apparently, with Goose Island, they don't recommend storing it for more then 5 years as it breaks down. Don't know this to be true but a Wholesaler for AB advised me. Your 2015 was borderline but, to your point, it was more than likely due to being infected as most of 2015 was.

I have a bottle of the regular BCBS back to 2007. Some day I will open them if I don't sell them first.

HELP - Anyone that can purchase Thomas Hardy's Ale around them I am in search of the 2018 Vintage and 2018 Historical Ale. Thomas Hardy's Ale is not widely available so I am trying to find anyone that can get it so I can keep my vertical going.

I have the 2018 Golden but am in need of the 2018 Vintage (this is the yearly vintage) and the 2018 Historical (barreled in Scotch Barrel)

Quoted from darkpinball:

Rochefort 10 is a masterpiece and my favourite belgian quadrupel, havent tried the famous Westvleteren XII though.

Westvleteren is a good beer BUT its exclusivity makes it more then what it is! If you Google it there are places online you can purchase it from as places (i.e. Belgiumart) ship it worldwide now.

#2088 4 years ago
Quoted from darkpinball:

I read somewhere that the WXII is quite similar to St bernardus abt12 and was once made in that brewery before the trappist law was established.
The Abt12 is a good beer but R10 is better imo so youre probably right about the WXII being more than it is, some day I would like to visit the monastary and pick up a few bottles though.

Yeah my daughter went to Belgium and sent me a few bottles (see post 1776 for picture) and although I liked it a lot there are other beers out there that I would rank higher..... St. Bern being one!

I have become a super fan of barrel aged stouts over the last couple of years, and have been a recent convert to Belgium strong ales and quads, mainly thanks to HEP, haha. I'm really loving the Gulden Draak regular and 9000s, and particularly Rochefort #10.

I am in the same boat with the BBS Stouts and Strong Ales. If you can pickup a Golden Draak Brewmasters .... it's done in whiskey barrels, which I am not usually a fan of, but it's a very good beer.

Quoted from Grandnational007:

So, apparently, KBS will be available year round now...
I never really had a problem finding it before, even later in the year I could usually find dusty four packs of it here and there in recent years, but this is awesome news.
As much as I used to enjoy "the hunt" for hard to find beers and whisky, I'd rather just relax and drink them, and not have to worry that I'll have to scramble to find whatever it is again.
Hopefully the quality isn't effected by this, and maybe the price...will come down?
Cheers all!

Here in Central CA I can go today and buy verticals of KBS and CBS. Little convenience store close to me has 17-19 CBS on his shelf.

Quoted from Grandnational007:

Unfortunately, the only Bruery stuff I have ever really seen with any regularity my way have been the god-awful bakery releases, specifically cherry pie.
We cracked one open Saturday night, and we could barely finish the can amongst the six of us. Syrupy sweet, and super cherry forward. Not balanced at all. Literally a one sip and done beer.
I've had some of their other offerings, which were really good, but they are scarce here. One day I'll find a couple of those killer "weekday" stouts y'all love to tease me with on here

I made the mistake joining their Reserve Society. This opens members up to a lot of their limited beers and for me specifically I have it so I get their Barreled Beers. Every month you receive an email with limited released beers to buy and I seem to like then all so I buy them all. Gets expensive quick but a lot of great beers.

The can ones are hit or miss. I did have one of the meemaw's famous sticky bun stout and would recommend it.

Quoted from way2wyrd:

We just made a run from The Bruery back to Texas with our Hoarders allotment from last year. There are some gems in there.
East Bound and Down Loaded up and Truckin.[quoted image]

LOL - I just picked my Jan-Mar 2020 allotment up and had 3 cases. It's not hard to accumulate a lot in a little time! I did the Reserve Society as I am big into the Bourbon Beers. Not sure if it be worth it to do Hoarders or not!

The 12 days beers I wasn't sold on. Not that they're bad, just that I was satisfied with just have flights of them.

EDIT: That Black Tuesday is AWESOME

#2137 4 years ago
Quoted from Grandnational007:

So are these available off the shelf, or are these brewery only?
They look ridiculously good!

The Bruery has three memberships one can join: Preservation, Reserve and Hoarders Society (link is for Reserve http://reserve.thebruery.com/). The great thing about this membership is the beer, of course, but also that The Bruery will store the beer for you. Being that I am almost 3 hours from them it's not as if I can drive down every month to pick beer up. So they give you the option of having it shipped (adds up quick) or they will store it and you just email them when you want to have it picked up.

Members get first crack at the beers. IF it doesn't sale out I believe the bottles will then go on sale to the public but only at the two locations. So the chances of seeing some of these at a local place is scarce.

Staying with the Tuesday theme ... yet another Black Tuesday variant from The Bruery. Spicy Island is a 19.2% Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels with Pineapples and Habanero Chili Peppers. At first you taste and smell the pineapple but it finishes with the habanero.

Quoted from way2wyrd:

How is it i havent busted mine open yet

Not bad but not one of my favorites of the BT variants. Out of the 10th Anniversary box the Pistachio and Samoa were the better of the four variants. The Spicy Island and Blueberry Pancakes, although not bad, are a drink one and move on. The Blueberry was just too much.

Quoted from ultimategameroom:

Black Tuesday is on my want to try list but I couldn’t bring myself to spend almost $50 for a beer.
What do they sell for on the west coast ?

Black Tuesday was $30
Black Tuesday Reserve and Two-Year Red Wine Barrel-Aged $35.70

#2190 4 years ago
Quoted from pinballjj:

would love to try one , based on the general malt/hop ratio of an imperial stout and the adjuncts in all the variants they seem like they would be on the sweet side , are they?

That's the one thing I liked about the Bruery Bourbon Beers, they aren't sweet and the flavors aren't overwhelming. The Blueberry Pancake one is opposite, the Blueberry is a little overwhelming and it actually reminded me of cough syrup.

#2202 4 years ago
Quoted from Spencer:

Man, I wish I could get a hold of some of these. Love me The Bruery but they are few and far between here. I did manage to secure 4 cans of one, I'll be picking up tomorrow. I wish shipping was a option!

Shipping in the States is hard enough but to Canada would be even more of a challenge!

Quoted from Pinhead306:

I totally agree I would love to try all those Black Tuesday beers.

The Bruery is, was I should say before this whole pandemic started, expanding their distribution so might be opportunity in the future to purchase their stuff.

All the variants for Black Tuesday are made available for the members of the Society that the Bruery offers. IF they don't sellout then, I believe, they're made available to the public.

It's a regular and if you go to the breweries out here they have it on tap with nitro, makes it a real smooth stout.
(note: I should say "when you use to be able to go to the brewery")

#2219 3 years ago

The Mole Merkin, not bad. Start out tasting the Chili Pepper and finish with the cinnamon.

16.4% ABV?! That beer is rockin. I can’t think of a beer that I’ve seen, barrel aged or otherwise, with an ABV that high. I’d imagine there has to be a bit of an alcohol burn.

Black Tuesday (Post 2007 https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/who-likes-beer/page/41#post-5302275) comes in at 19.4%

Have you had the New Holland Dragon's Milk Triple Mash (Post 2269 https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/who-likes-beer/page/46#post-5733411)? Comes in at 17% and is one of the best Stouts I have had! A Pinsider is kind enough to get me a few bottles the past few years and ship them to me!

Would love to try the 20th Anniversary! Just love Bourbon Barreled and Old Ale Beers!

#2316 3 years ago
Quoted from Bax1:

I can never get my hands on the triple mash. Just sells out too quick. some stores sell them for 12 per bottle which is bs. I won't pay that. I do love those reserves though. The newest one will age nicely. Picked up a case of it to age. The 20th anniversary was a huge rum punch to the d*ck!!! that sucker was strooooong. I might bust out a no rules tonight. That is one of my favorites.
https://www.perrinbrewing.com/beer/no-rules/#

No Rules and MALTED MILK BALL look VERY interesting!

If 12$ is too high for the Triple Mash then you want no part of the Bruery Beers. They're all pretty much 20$ and up per bottle straight from the Bruery! A lot of times I just wish I liked Coors Light

Try drinking it straight from the can. The fruity taste shouldn't be as pronounced.

It’s as if the flavoring they use, probably a artificial, is too syrupy. Again, not that the beers are bad just a one and done for me as they’re too sweet.

Quoted from pinballjj:

I was wondering how the pineapple would be in that type of beer. You should get a deal from the bruery as a "media influencer" or whatever it is called, I never see any of their stuff in upstate ny.enjoy that beach!

I’m open to offers

I know a place in OH that carries a lot of the Bruery beers n that’s as Far East I have seen them. One thing to keep in mind though is the fact that a lot of the beers I get from them are part of their Reserve Society membership. So a lot of them you won’t find out here nonetheless back East.

Quoted from mcluvin:

Do any of you guys collect tap handles? I'm downsizing and have no idea what these things are worth. I also have a Guiness Last Call Brass Bell that I think is supposed to be kinda rare.

Yeah prices for tap handles are all over the place. A lot of the common ones you'll be lucky to get 5$ for. I have a hundred or so of them and they just sit in a cabinet.

The Guinness Bell, one on Let It Go right now for 45$

Quoted from gliebig:

Hit my favorite local brewery, Sapwood Cellars.
Said what the hell, sampled every one. Every one was A+.
Love this place.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Must say not a lot of those appeal to me but man isn't great that one brewery has soooo many options!! We truly are living in the best time for beer as so many breweries are making so many good beers.

Quoted from beergut666:

Saw this at Costco today. At $48 that's a whole lot of bang for your buck Belgian goodness right there. Will probably grab one for the long holiday weekend next week.
[quoted image]

2.40 per that’s a nice deal! Did they have different boxes? Sometimes they will have different boxes with different variants.

Keep an eye out for the German beer Advent calendar at Costco

Very nice Vince.
I drank these two tonight.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Good to see ya posting here Chris n HNY to you n your family!

I joined the Bruery’s Hoarders society this year and am enjoying it. I really like the Bourbon Barreled Beers and they don’t disappoint.

We need to start exchanging again, been too long. At a minimum I will start picking a few of these and send them your way.
