I like Belgian Triples like Weyerbacher's Merry Monks, Victory Brewing's Golden Monkey and, especially, Troegs's Mad Elf Ale.image-468.jpg

Ah yes ! It's an oatmeal stout . The same recipe that I have made and been bringing to pinball shows for the past few years .

Just put Weihenstephaner Vitus on tap. If you ever get a chance to have this on tap it's well worth it. Very good tasting beer with an even better after taste. Hard to believe it has a 7.7% ABV

You actually like this stuff? I like a heavy beer, occasionally, but this concoction is undrinkable. And the price is truly the only thing MAD about it.

#558 6 years ago

I still think someone should make a beer-themed pin. It would be the best selling pinball machine of all time. As your score gets higher, the game gets harder and harder and the table wobbles back and forth. If you roll the displays, you black out and wake up the next morning in a different city.

#559 6 years ago

Just brewed my first batch 2 weeks ago! Excited to see and taste how it turns out.

Sorry, no pictures of the bucket for you guys.

I don't think triples are heavy at all. Stoudts and porters, they're heavy and I don't care for them at all. If you're referring to the high ABV, then yes, I like higher alcohol content beer. As an alcoholic who prefers his booze to be no less than 50%, low ABV beers do nothing for me. And, yes, Troegs is pricey but when you only buy one or two cases a year, I don't see the cost issue. A lot of people must agree to because, I live in PA not too far from the brewery and most distributers are sold out by black friday.

#562 6 years ago

My favorite beers are cream ales and Belgian whites, but I really love hard cider.

I'd probably have more pins if I didn't collect so many beer taps. You can check out my collection here:

Some people have pinball museums..I'm hoping to one day have a tap handle museum.

Whoa, quite the collection. Those tap handles are works of art.

Question - how do you display them? Is there a wall of tap handles on shelves? Let us know - curious.

Me too. I didn't realize it was so popular.

Yea, it is. Though, beer, like food, is a matter of taste. One of the distributors I visit, the guy doesn't care for Mad Elf at all. He also doesn't like Merry Monks. Prefers the darker stuff. Good for him. As long as he stocks the stuff I like, don't care what he likes. Nor do I get in an argument about it.

It's like arguing over whether Chedder or Gouda or Feta or...whatever is a better cheese. It's all a matter of taste.

#572 6 years ago

I am not a big Belguim or wheat or Monk fan beer out of the many I have tried over the years.

Sprecher Oktoberfest on tap right now at the house .
Cheers !

Well, sadly, they are all in boxes now. The plan is to build a detached gameroom & bar on the property next year. The pins will be in the gameroom of course. The taps will probably take up a whole wall in the bar. I plan on mounting them to shelves about 6" apart from each other. It should be pretty insane!

Can someone please explain the fascination w/ pumpkin beers? I just don't get it....

#579 6 years ago
Quoted from trudert9:

I dig a few like Southern Tier's Pumking (very expensive) or the Shipyard Brewing one. I don't like how pumpkin beers were already out by early August. It's now early October and I'm sick of them.

Nonetheless, as a guy who loves fall, pumpkins help signal the end of the yucky hot summer. Hence the fascination with pumpkin beer.

Now bring on Mad Elf!

tis the season, pumpkin coffee, pumpkin doughnuts, pumpkin ice cream. Just means summer is over. But I have to admit, pumpkin ice cream is pretty good.

I started collecting beer bottles over 20 years ago. I would put aside one from every 6 or case. I always went after the micro brews. Now I am trying to get rid of them, they take up too much room. I'm keeping the collection of steins and growlers though.

#589 6 years ago

I also thought about collecting all the st pauli girl posters through the years. But decided the wife wouldn't appreciate it. I still have a couple rolled up though.

Finally found one that I liked. Still gotta try the Southern Tier.

My new favorite beer! Anyone else tried this? So far I've only found it at BevMo and it's $10 for a 4 pack. Ouch!

I haven't had one in a few years, but vaguely recall thinking it would be good on pancakes or waffles. Very strong!

#594 6 years ago

Lately for me has been several of the "Straight to Ale" beers, Illudium, Unobtanium,

Also been pounding several Double IPAs, Space Cake by Clown Shoes, Rico Sauvin by Agaist the Grain, Double Wide (can't remember the brewery but has a red trailer on the bottle)

And yes, pumpkin beer, Southern Tier Pumpking and Warlock are mighty tasty, also been drinking a recent release from 21st Amendment.

Holy Cow first time I had in a bottle, not bad.
