Yes, this just re affirms my decision to bail on this and buy a Twister instead.

#295 6 years ago
Quoted from fosaisu:

Are you working on a Paxton memorial collection?

No, but Twister has the most awesome spinning disc of them all!

At least now it does...

#313 6 years ago

I like the fact that those that want to can get their money back no questions asked and

get on with their lives like nothing happened.

Quoted from arcadem:

I keep seeing the term 'BOM' used. I am embarrassed to ask but can someone tell me what "BOM" refers to? Thanks in advance.

What they said above.

Unlike "bomb" or "the bomb", which was used to describe the spinning discs when first revealed, and subsequently what was dropped when it was stated they would not appear in production games.

Quoted from iceman44:

As pinhead consumers we invest as much or more emotionally into this hobby as any one I've ever been a part of.

If you consider staggering around the backyard until three in the morning laughing being emotional, then I am as guilty as everybody else.

#444 5 years ago
Quoted from heni1977:

How in the hell do you cram that many coils into a pinball machine ?

You put quite a few in the backbox as well.

Quoted from _xizor:

All I do know is that I'm out on my CE pre-order, I did get my money back and as a customer I feel like I've been screwed.
Now, I PERCEIVE I've been screwed. I'm not out any money, so why should I care?
I emotionally invested in the purchase

Quoted from xTheBlackKnightx:

Hobbyists defending imaginary final builds, or even specific marketing methods is being over enthustiastic. Consider this the next time someone wants to preorder. It got people into trouble before, and is why it is wise to wait for evaluation.

Some are still a little butthurt that they removed the drop target from Dirty Harry and the sinking institute from Earthshaker, or even the third magnet from TZ. Or how bout that middle pop bumper on Bally Freedom? But that did not stop them from dropping plenty of quarters to play them.

Eventually those items that were removed from sample and prototype machines, simply become footnotes in the long, storied history of pinball.

#513 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

I'll drop plenty of quarters into any pinball machine for fun. It's a little different dropping huge stacks of Hundies on a pin to own.

Collectors are still dropping big stacks of Benjies on older games that had items removed from the prototype versions.

Perhaps the time has come again to actually wait and let something pay it's dues and become a collector's item on it's own merit, before getting overly excited about it or spending big bucks on it, unless it will be out there earning money as it is designed to do.

Iron Maiden has the rule set and combos pinheads adore whilst having a theme that appeals to everyone.

Quoted from iceman44:

That's Old School brother. Those days are long gone Odiner.

Then keep on buying those new "collectors edition" pinball machines before you even play it, and be happy with whatever you get.

#525 5 years ago
Quoted from xTheBlackKnightx:

You can still find footage/photos of the game and ramps from the 1993 Pinball Expo for verification were WMS showed "teaser" development including artwork.

I bet they didn't stand up there and say -

"Put your $1000 deposit down before the New Year and you can have one of these super collectable versions sometime next year"

#535 5 years ago
Quoted from Jkush18:

o-din you think I’m wrong ?

"theme that appeals to everyone" is actually pretty hilarious.

#560 5 years ago
Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

I came up with exactly one example that occurred twenty five years ago, when B/W released JD. Deadworld is the main toy in Judge Dredd and it occupied the center of the game. Deadworld is a large spinning disc with three holes that was designed to physically lock three balls for multiball. Operators complained about it's reliability (which ended up being more a problem about the game's optos registering less than 100% and messing up the internal ball count) and the ring was replaced with one with slots instead of out holes at the beginning of production, thereby rendering the lock a virtual one.

They went on to sell over 6000 Judge Dredds this way. And years later it still had a reasonable value of $1400.

#562 5 years ago

It was 6000 not 8000 and I'm still on my first cup of coffee of the day.

#579 5 years ago

Here is a Bally example.

The year is 1975 and our country is about to celebrate it's bicentennial and Bally is striving to become the top pinball manufacturer which shortly there after they would go onto become. On Freedom they removed an entire pop bumper from a key location, but that didn't stop them from selling over 5000 units.

Quoted from westofrome:

This is because the Europeans complained they couldn't hold the ball as easily while they drank beer and bragged about their upcoming shot

I never really get why manufacturers bow down to these Europeans, when it was the USA that was celebrating it's bicentennial.

Indeed.

I hate to use the couchgument, but after being emotionally committed when I pre-ordered my Lazy Boy couch and seeing the piece of junk they sent me, and now going thru two trips from the service tech and boxes of new cushions and parts cluttering up my house, just to have it now look worse than before, I'm frazzled!
