You would think that should be a problem, right?

But perhaps not when your product sells itself.

From my limited experience in completely different industries.

Sales people have a tendency to be the least tech savvy group of all.

In a lot of cases, a presentation like this would be handled by someone in marketing.

Quoted from polishedball:

The only reason I would like an updated shipping date is, it would allow me to not miss out on most wanted machines due to keeping the cash available for CCr at anytime. I passed on a CV because of this and I do not see em often local, now another machine has come up that I am eyeing, if I knew I had at minimum another month before these ship (yes I am the SE only) I'd have another pin in my lineup right now. Now maybe I should do everyone a favor and just buy, cause as my luck usually works out, I would get an email later that day for final payment on CCr.

Do it!

This was never a tech discussion - literally he is the sales face of the company. CGC is the one who consciously put him on stage to do this very talk MULTIPLE TIMES.

Presenting and convincing people to buy their product IS THE JOB. To make an excuse of 'come on guys, he's not good as presentations' is no excuse for your sales guy. Like I said... Surgeon with butter fingers.

I disagree.

A sales managers job is to sell a product, support the product and create long lasting relationships. Creating a fancy presentation about a pinball machine is generally outside of the job description. In my eyes a presentation is more of a marketers task.

Plus, the presentations itself isn't going to sell games, it's the content in the presentation and the game itself that will.

So who cares if the presentation is pretty or not?

Either way can we stop with the Ryan hate? He clearly wears a lot of hats at the company and appears to be a valuable member of their team. Who really cares if he doesn't do a great job at a presentation he gives a couple times a year to an audience of like 20...

You think this is a Fortune 500 company? It's a handful of people. The manager is also the janitor! This isn't different silos of Sales and Marketing teams.. It's one guy and his dog. That's the reality in small business, it's your job. There is no sales 'team' - it's HIM. So the manager label is immaterial - its his responsibility.

Not sure what sales roles you had.. but in my 20+ years, I never had a marketing person come on our sales calls. They create content and deal with the media - not accounts.

I don't think you have experienced this content directly. The guy went to the biggest industry show for a product they've known they are going to sell for over a year, and have delayed multiple times, so it's not like this was some sprung thing... and then pretty much reads from his phone, shows a TV show clip, and a video teaser and is like "thats all I got".

Your kid is turning in better book reports in middle school.

I was in the audience when they showed off the game at Expo, at most, there was 50 people there and most the presentations he gives is probably half that. You make it sounds like there was thousands of people there.

Did you know that every other presentation that occurred that day suffered the same fate. Expo clearly told everyone to just bring a laptop to plug in and they would have the AV stuff handled and they failed on that front. It happened to every single presentation that day. That disaster clearly wasn't Ryan's fault, it was Expos... and even still.

People in that audience were pleased with the presentation. They announced a price that was reasonable (people cheered), they explained the new system and talked about the Lyman code update and answered all audience questions that people had. They wheeled out that game, and that 50-person audience flocked around it like it was the holy grail.

The AV failures were out of his control. The presentation certainly accomplished what it was set out to do.

I placed an order shortly after that presentation. I could care less about the PowerPoint, it was the game itself that will sell people and it certainly sold me.

I didn't fault him for the AV strugles they had at the start of the session - I faulted him for his presentation. Its delivery, its content, and his preparation. The old 'we were still deciding these things last night' excuse doesn't cover it. Sure, dates, prices, yes/no decisions can be last minute.. but not the game, what it was, or any of that matter. He acted like he got asked to do this whole thing 10mins prior.

There were way more than 50 people in that room.. it was nearly full front to back. It was the reveal of the game, not speaking to a room of filler.

The expo AV excuses don't cover the same weak deliveries at SFGE or MGC either.. it's time to stop making excuses.

Notice I didn't mention powerpoint? Your "Presentation" is more than your slideware...

It was a horrid presentation saved only by the fact they had the games on the floor and the impressive topper reveal. Without the game itself it would have been outright embarrassing.

I think you are forgetting about the hundreds if not thousands of people that were watching the whole presentation through streaming like myself. I have not seen a presentation that bad in my entire life. Yes I know this title will sell itself. That doesn't mean you just go out there and say "Cactus Canyon.... play the game" as your presentation.

I had a whole thing typed out basically saying the same thing. Funny how it seems to start (more than once) with one person's talon.

The game being revealed was the main part of the presentation.

They revealed price, talked about features (topper, Lyman, enhancements, etc), answered every question people asked, and showed off the game followed by letting everyone give it a play.

All this could be viewed as very off the cusp, but that is what happens when you plan for a PowerPoint presentation, and the technology fails you. He was forced to start spewing out the information he wanted to convey. Then answer questions.

I agree that it would've been an awful presentation without the game reveal. But the game reveal was the main part of the presentation! It's like saying the super bowl would've sucked without the professional football players. Ryan clearly wanted the game reveal to be the spotlight of the presentation and it was.

Which made it one of the better presentations given at expo.

Compare it to JJP who literally showed nothing and just brought everyone on stage to answer questions. American primarily talked about the making of Valhalla and then preceded to set the games up so poorly that everyone who played the game there will avoid the game like the plague. Stern had a bunch of presentations that were good. In fact, I enjoyed all these presentations, but none of them can compare with CGC showing off CCr.

I get that the presentation could've been handled better. I enjoyed it but can see why other might not have.

I just don't think it's alright to attack Ryan as a person over it. That is going too far in my book.

These companies should consider a charming personality to MC the presentations/seminar.

Someone who knows how to keep it going, shift gears if the company or audience aren't meshed.

I don't know if it's out there anywhere. Best one I had was when I MC'd for jjp the first time years ago at Expo. A lot of fun. ( second one, no. After the introductions I never had the microphone again, back to the same old same old. )

Good point. I’m sorry if I contributed to negative vibes. They are the polar opposite of the positivity and excitement I have in the anticipation for Cactus Canyon.

Me too. For me I know and except that CGC is the worst at schedule, bad about updates and are always late. But the product they put out after being late or very late is very good. This is how I got my MMRLE. They were very very very late, years late I think. Someone dropped out and I got their spot and a MMRLE. AFMRLE was also late, so was MBRLE. Each time they did better on the schedule (But were late each time). This time the supply chain issue is making things so much worse. I understand if others need to get back their deposit. I understand wanting an update. I just know from the past, that when the game come it will be nice.

I can tell you never ordered a Big Lebowski. People paid in full over 7 years ago with nothing. Lies from the company as they were being sued for non payment to the factory. Over a year with no updates, And now people that order now get there games before people that paid in full in 2014.

Having been in industry where presentations were given regularly, most of them were written by engineering. Then they were sent to marketing/sales where all of the actual information was removed and words and phrases that mean little but sound great were added.

Correct, no Big Lebowski, Magic Girl, or Alien to name a few. Came close to pull the trigger on one. Happy I did on MMRLE.

I spoke with Game Room Guys distributor in Michigan 2 days ago, asking on any updates on shipping. Was told CGC started building SE's last week and LE's would be after that production.

In my daily work selling system solutions we struggle a lot to get hold of part.
Some have 52-72 weeks delivery and often they can tell if they even can deliver at all.

It’s NO excuse to not inform! To have a happy customer it’s better to give bad news than nothing.

Yes the end product is great. When I order mine I knew that it will take 8 months to reach my door.

Interesting I'll have to stop down and see them, they are like 3 miles away from me. I bought elsewhere for this pin but have purchased in the past so I need to go pick there brains, seems so odd one distributor and a smaller one at that would have the scoop.

While I agree an update would be nice, this might be a case where they are better off to simply start building machines and when a few are actually fully completed and operational and ready to ship they send out an update saying the games are shipping. Given the supply chain issues everyone is experiencing the last thing you want to do is have a supplier tell you what you need will be shipped next week and then you tell your customers, we are shipping in X weeks and then next week the supplier says, oops sorry, it will be another month. Given that they totally, and I mean totally, blew their original production date and people are unhappy, they probably figure its best just to wait until they have 100% concrete information. I think that the upset feelings will vanish instantly when they say your game is shipped, we enhanced it with Saloon Doors and we have new Lyman (RIP) based code.

No way that will happen, especially if games start shipping in the next few weeks. Any such kit is easily months away and it won’t be free.

I'm not saying they're wrong, but my experience with Automated is they tell you whatever they need to to get you off their back for a while. I'll never buy from them again.

I built a full size and it is great for learning the rules of the machines I play in local tournaments.

I converted an Arcade1up "pin" to a VPX/Pinball FX/Future Pinball cabinet. 3 monitors and solenoids. I agree they are good for learning the rules and shots.

I am so excited about getting my Cactus Canyon LE.
Am I the only one that has a box full of toys for their CC-LE but no CC-LE?
Living in Arizona the game perfectly fits the location. The other day I drove past a Cactus Canyon Apartment!
Hoping to ring in the early New Year with an estimate on ship date. Well, I can dream anyway, right?
Can't wait! Saddle up your horses!

This is my Theme song for this, my FIRST NIB purchase.

"The Great Adventure" By Steven Curtis Chapman

Saddle up your horses

Started out this morning in the usual way
Chasing thoughts inside my head
I thought I had to do today
Another time around the circle
Try to make it better than the last
I opened up the Bible
And I read about me
Said I'd been a prisoner
And God's Grace had set me free
And somewhere between the pages
It hit me like a lightning bolt
I saw a big frontier in front of me
And I heard somebody say 'Let's go!'

Saddle up your horses
We've got a trail to blaze
Through the wild blue yonder of God's Amazing grace
Let's follow our leader into the Glorious unknown
This is the life like no other whoa whoa
This is The Great Adventure

Yeah....

Come on, get ready for the ride of your life
Gonna leave long faced religion
In a cloud of dust behind
And discover all the new horizons
Just waiting to be explored
This is what we were created for, yeah

Saddle up your horses
We've got a trail to blaze
Through the wild blue yonder of God's Amazing grace
Let's follow our leader into the Glorious unknown
This is the life like no other whoa whoa
This is The Great Adventure

We'll travel on, over mountains so high
We'll go through valleys below
Still through it all we'll find that
This is the greatest journey
That the human heart will ever see
The love of God will take us far
Beyond our wildest dreams
Yeah, oh saddle up your horses
Come on get ready to ride

Saddle up your horses
We've got a trail to blaze
Through the wild blue yonder of God's Amazing grace
Let's follow our leader into the Glorious unknown
This is the life like no other whoa whoa
This is The Great Adventure
