If the number of people needing car insurance drops by even 20%, which is very plausible the bottom line to the insurance companies would take a huge hit. Ramifications to the transportation industry will be unprecedented in the next 20 years: Taxi, Uber and Semi drivers all looking for jobs - Car to Car communication eliminating accidents reducing jobs - People traveling at night (no need for a driver) eliminating airfare. On the other hand if anyone can grab a autonomous ride for pennies maybe more cars will be crowding the streets.
