I have owned a W?D almost since I started into pinball and am currently on my 9th making a nicer one each time, a friend has modded the roulette wheel to spin and is currently working on making the phone shake when it rings!

Its a great game which is fairly rare (just over 2400 made). I wonder how many are still about?

I meet Barry Oursler last year and he signed my translate . It is not a well liked game over here and is known as "why-play-it" but that suits me. People are usually presently surprised when they play it and my kids all loved it while they were growing up, it's still the game they will switch on when they are visiting.

Quoted from tmontana:

If he doesn't mind, could you post what he did for those mods?

I know there is some gearing under the plastic as he had to offset the motor because there is not much room due to the right return ramp. Next time I have the glass off I will take it off and photo the back so you can see. The shaking phone should be cool as well!

Here's my topper for my Whodunnit. Its a real old phone with a colour changing led behind the question mark and EL wire that (for the hand set cord) that lights up when the flasher is going on the one in the game.

Has anyone hooked up a shaker to their pin?

Not quite but I am trying to get the phone handset to shake when it rings, its getting there and sounds ok with the glass on

don't seem to be able to post a video here so stuck it on photobucket

I may have one as I parted a W?D a few years ago, I will have a check tomorrow.

Hey Lermods, I haven't found the exact one yet but I have this one that is very similar it just isn't cranked at one end. I have offered it up to my W?D and I am pretty sure it will fit. If you want it PM me your address dude.

To light up the rear of my W?D I put a black light in and then coloured all the windows in the buildings with a yellow highlighter pen so they all show up. It looks a lot more effective in real life

As a huge Whodunnit fan (I am on my 10th W?D pin but this will never leave as I have gone a bit mad with it) I thought you may enjoy this article from Amusement business magazine in February 1996. It looks like (from the reviews) it was the greatest Pinball ever made

I think I have a nos left (train) ramp somewhere. I will dig it out and let you know.

#159 1 year ago

I just listed the main ramp. It's a little scuffed up but should polish up ok

I have had this happen when the wheel doesn't run true (wobbles) so the opto miscounts the opening it's supposed to see. Also the grub screws holding it in place are often over tightened and crack the plastic on the wheel so it becomes loose.

Quoted from lowga:

Anyone know where you can find a "Tony's Palace" plastic?

I don't know where you can get a single plastic, Marco had whole sets but thats probably over the top. Here is a scan of one so you could make your own.

And can someone point me towards nice looking custom instruction cards for this machine

Herae are some I like. I particualy like the cast of caricters one rather than the actual instruction card. Have you read the pages of introduction to the cast at the begining of the manual?!!!

Could somebody have a look under their playfield and let me know where the red and white wire (you can just see in front of the light board) should go? Can't see for the life of me but it can't be far! Thank you.

Quoted from bladerunner:

Just upgraded my WD to a way nicer pin that I got from another pinsider. Only issue is that the head decals are missing, it is all black. Does anyone know why Bally would have sold them that way? Have seen the same on other pins in the past.

I have never seen this! are you sure its factory?

Quoted from bladerunner:

Yes it is. It is a prototype game. Red boards and all. It is serial number 40

Awesome, that's my new thing I have learnt today

Liking that. Can't see the photos on a full size screen at the moment but looks good

#249 5 months ago

I have set my machine so you can only get 2 extra balls. There aren't many game specific settings compared to most games but you have to make them all harder than the factory settings to get the most out of W?D

Agreed, whatever that small board is I didn't have it and you don't need to use that power supply anyway. No issues with my colour DMD but I did buy it specifically for W?D so it already had the software pre-loaded, plug and play.
