Why in the world would I have to turn the volume up to 18 before I can hear anything? I have checked all the connectors. I have checked the speaker connections as well. Also for some reason when I play, the sound goes in and out too. Any thoughts?

#2 11 years ago

I had the same problem on my CFTBL last week and reseating all connectors on cables on, and going to the soundboard fixed it.
Did you also check the connectors on the subwoofer in the bottom of the cabinet?

#3 11 years ago

As Apekop suggested, check the simple things first, like the connectors.
Do you have another sound board that you can swap to see if the issue follows the board or stays with the game?
There are other possibilities, but let's see what the simple things yield first.

Thanks guys. I looked at the connectors and they looked fine. I did not check the subwoofer. I do have another sound board from another game. I will check these things. Thanks a lot..

Ok, it is the sound board. I took the sound board out of TZ and it worked great. So, I guess it could be the chip?

#6 11 years ago

Aha. Good work. It's highly probably that your X9503 digital POT on the sound board has failed.

If you have the experience/tools/skills to replaced the IC, have at it. Otherwise, send it to your favorite repair guy for professional repair.

If you want/need to send it out, I'd be happy to help too.

What would you think of a wpc sound board where it starts up working fine but after a few min of play some sounds start to be missing then soon there is no sound? When you power cycle the machine, it works again but since it's not cold like before it only works for a few seconds until it goes haywire.

I figured it was the caps since they may support behavior that changes after the system warms up but replacing the two big caps had no impact.

Have you tried reseating the sound roms?

That sounds like an amp issue. Is the heat sink so hot that you can't hold your hand on it?

What game? It could be as simple as the speaker wire connections either at the board connectors or at the speakers.

Ya...the quoting didn't work like I thought it would. I wanted to include your post to imply after the OP had reseated the ROMs, then connections... Now I know how the quotes work. Doh!

Before you start taking chips off you could maybe try putting the old board back and see if works now. You never know.

Ok I'll check that and maybe swap the amp.

#16 11 years ago

Just reseat them...It doesn't take long but be gentle with the roms

#17 11 years ago

Hey guys. Thank u all so much for all of the advise... I have reseated the rom chips. Cleaned them too. I have tried everything u guys are saying and it still goes in and out. I have done more digging and found this out. One of the chips controls the volume and regulats the sound and volume. I had a friend create me three new rom chips. I pick them up Monday. If this fixes the issue I will let u guys know and if u r having these issues with whitewater or other pins, I think I can help everyone. Talk to ya Monday..

#18 11 years ago

I don't think any of the game sound rom chips control the volume. Only the non programmable logic chips.

#19 11 years ago

Markmon I am not 100 percent sure. K's arcade told me it is one of those chips. Either chip 27c020 or chip 27c010. If it does not help the issue, I will look into logic chip.

Those are the game ROM chips. They simply control the game's content sounds. They will not control the sound volume. And if they're corrupted, you will get an error when the game starts up on a checksum mismatch with the specific corrupted chip being cited.

Ok, u guys are right. I put in the new rom chips and it did not fix the issue. I am going to try what chrishibler said:
