Going to be joining this club for the first time in a few days. What's everyone upgrading their display to, LED or LCD?

#3354 1 year ago

I’ve never bought a color display before so this will be my first time doing so. Looks like LCD it is.

The rubber was put there from the factory.

Thanks to mrwizzo, I’m in this club for the first time. Bought the machine for my fiancé, she absolutely loves this game!

Absolutely did. She requested 3 machines, Aerosmith (which she got NIB), White Water, and Attack From Mars. 2 of the 3 have been delivered. AFM will be another year or so before I try and grab one. She loves pinball, hell she even requested 2 machines be put in our kitchen!

Whoah, really nice looking example there!

mrwizzo has had this game in his basement for almost 20 years. I can't thank him enough for the deal he gave me.

Trying to find a white Yeti, no luck. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks!

#3410 1 year ago
Quoted from Squeakman:

Its no Yeti! It's BUMBLES!

Sorry, I stand corrected!

Quoted from bigd1979:

Its a beauty.. i dont mind the white but will probably change to blue. Also has color dmd. I have the ocd boards for it and chrome package to put on also.

What does the ocd boards do?

“Pick a bale of cotton” from the movie The Jerk would also fit in.

OK club members, last night I drifted on the forums and read a ton of threads on LCD vs LED for ColorDMD and I'm not sure which one to get. There seems to be good arguments coming from both sides. I will say this, I watched this video tonight, and whatever is installed in this machine, is what I want. Does anyone know if this is the LED or LCD model?

#3476 1 year ago

OK then it looks like im 100% sold on LCD. I just picked up my game and started reading this thread from the beginning. I saw lots of ColorDMD photos, but the artwork still looked pixelated, just colorized. Then I saw this video I posted, and I like the solid colors on this display better. It's more crisp.

Fiancé wants Bumble installed on her White Water. I sifted through the threads and found the Bumble, ordered it and she will get ir for Christmas.

Looking for some help installing Bumble. Didn’t really see any how to threads or what is exactly involved to install him. If anyone could assist me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Those are 3 solid pins. How is the pinballsp color dmd working out for you on wh20 are you happy with it?

I recently acquired a Whitewater and the first thing I did was purchase a color DMD, which was my first ever color DMD. It's fantastic and totally fits the game.

Quoted from GCS2000:

Are there any decent options for a topper?
The game I am looking at now has everything but the foil sticker (all other parts yes) and yeah I know like everyone else too.
Wish laseriffic or tilt toppers would do one for those w/o any topper. While not original would be better than nothing, it would probably look pretty cool too.

No option.

#3872 1 year ago
Quoted from GCS2000:

So I tracked down a very nice White Water - new pf, new boulders, new ramps etc.
I already ordered a colorDMD (LED version), bigfoot hotfoot mod - what else essential to get?
It does not have Cliffy's or Mantis am I taking a huge risk not getting these for a home game.

Send back the LED and get the LCD.

Will the LH-6 Rom work with the Color DMD?

Yes.

Killing time on the runway, late last night while playing I noticed my slings and pops are not working. Everything else seems to be working 100%. I didn’t have time to check anything, but my initial thought is that a fuse must have blown. I just reviewed the fuse section in the manual but didn’t see a specific fuse pointing to the slings and pops.

Does anyone know off hand if one specific fuse is controlling this and if so which one?

#3979 1 year ago
Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

The slings and pops are solenoids 10-14 and connect at J-127. Not sure which fuse it is, but I'd say you have one blown.

Thanks! I’ll be home Wednesday night and will check this out.

So I checked all the fuses, no issues. Reseated the cable for J127 and no change. Confirmed that none of those solenoids fire in test mode.

Thoughts on what to look at next?

Yes, pulled all of them. I learned that lesson about a year ago

Bad trace under a leaky cap? That just happened to me on my TAF.

Above my skill set!

I was told at the Texas Pinball show that bolder sets would be out in 6 weeks per Starship Fantasy. So that would technically be 2 weeks away? I hope.

Which means just in time for Pinfest.

Here is one for the group. Recently my pops and slings stopped working. Below is everything I have done. Thoughts?

- Checked ALL fuses outside of the fuse holders, all good
- Checked voltage at TP6, got 50V
- Checked pin2 on J107, good
- Checked all lugs on the 3 pops and the 2 slings, all good at 71v
- Checked the outside of the fuse holder for fuse 104, good
- Unplugged J107, and tested voltage on pin2 directly, 71.3v
- Unplugged J127, lifted playfield and ran alligator clip from ground wire to brown wire on each of the coils for the pops, all pops fired
- J127 does not look burned or anything and doesn't appear that it has ever been repinned
- Checked logic on chip U4 by putting game in solenoid test, repeat, and then testing the 2nd pin from the top on the right side, it reads 5.02, and never dips/or changes state

I'm out of options!

One of the things I’ve never done repair wise is replace connectors. Could you guys point me to the right hardware/parts I need to accomplish this?

#4083 1 year ago

In the interim I’ve been reading more about this. Seems like the crimper tool itself plays a major role and most people are saying not to cheap out on it. Problem is I didn’t see anyone recommending a specific crimper. Suggestions?

Well I can eliminate switches not registering or registering a different number than they are supposed too. Can also thank mbeardsley because it was definitely the bounceback switches being hit after "bounceback" was already lit. Apparently I wasn't paying attention to the fact that I had bounceback lit and continued to hit the bounceback switches. Anyway nothing to see here folks just a machine working properly. Thx for making me aware of my stupidity

So, the people who just got Vacation Jackpot, how much was the jackpot value when you got it?
I've always been curious about how the Jackpot value increases. Normally, it starts at 200 million and goes up by 10,000 after each play, but at some point I think it starts to accelerate. When I bought my machine, it's value was around 750 million...which would be 55,000 plays at 10,000 each (and this assumes that no one had EVER reached VJ, and the machine had never been reset).
Considering that the machine was only 4 years old at the time, that number of plays seems unlikely.
Furthermore, I have seen a couple of other Whitewater machines with Jackpot values around 750 million also. This seems like too much of a coincidence.
As for how often I get VJ, I can make it about 20% of the time. I've gotten it twice in one game many times, and in one game (long ago) got it a third time. This is with standard 6.5 degree incline, normal tilt, and a "hard" outlane. Of course, I've been playing the machine for over 20 years, so I know all the angles and shots pretty well.

The Vacation Bonus base value is 200M. It is increased by 10K at the end of every game played. The only time you can see the Vacation Bonus value is as part of the attract mode on newer machines. On L-3 ROMs, it is not possible to apply the 5X Playfield to the Vacation Bonus - the game merely awards the 200M+change value.

Note: there seems to be some sort of unusual bug which very rarely sets the Vacation Bonus value to exactly 799M. I have actually collected this value (sweet!), and have heard that it's been seen on at least one other machine as well. It seems unlikely that exactly 59,900 consecutive non-Vacation games had been played on two different machines...
----------------------------------------------------

Cows

There are three occurrences of Cows in Whitewater. The first is the fifth item found in Bigfoot's Cave during Bigfoot Hotfoot. Once you have collected that Cow, collecting the Mystery Canyon as a Whirlpool Award the next time during that game will replace the usual Whirlpool animation with a picture of the Spirit pulling a string on the legless Cow, which "MOO"s rather loudly. The picture is labeled "The Secret of the Cow". This picture also appears briefly in the Vacation Bonus award.

The Secret of the Cow is not worth any special points, despite my earlier claim that it was worth 10M.

The third cow in Whitewater is the famous Dueling Cows display, which can be obtained during attract mode. Make sure there are no credits on the machine. It may be necessary to power-cycle first on some machines. Then, press the flipper buttons and start button in the following sequence:

3L 1S 15R 1S 23L 1S
That spells COW. Try it.

#4856 4 months ago
Quoted from mbeardsley:

Unfortunately, since many (most?) people are using the free-play-only home ROMS, they can never see the dueling cows, since pressing the start button will always start a new game before the cow sequence can be completed.
That is interesting info about the VJ jackpot...where is that quoted from?

Is this a normal rubber in the Boulder Gardren? I’m not sure it’s supposed to be there. [quoted image][quoted image]

Factory does not have that rubber installed. With that rubber in, the game plays much easier. Pull it out and be prepared for some massive right outlane drains!
