Quoted from Fifty:

I am pretty sure it's the ball drop into the Whirlpool that goes under the playfield. I sold my WW a little while back though...

Did you sell your White Water really?

#2752 6 years ago

New to the club as of last weekend. I bought the one posted here in SoCal. Really fun game and trying to figure it out. Is getting hot foot basically impossible. Was getting a credit dot because that switch never gets activated. I read you are suppose to hit the two white drop targets to activate but I can't seem to get that mode started. Maybe I should pull off the glass. I even bumped up the hot foot timing in the menu.

#2753 6 years ago

Yes you have to hit both the hotfoot targets...like 4-5 -6 times, forget default settings. Anyway, game classically goes for long stretches without it which activates the error dot.
As soon as you complete them it will tell you have many to go.

Welcome to the club!

Quoted from Djshakes:

It should also auto-adjust to the player's skill as well. At least, I believe it should if selected in the settings. My buddy's strategy is to nail those bigfoot targets to rack up easy jackpot points and go for camera craze to stack it with multiball (if you're really lucky, you can stack it with multiball and 5x the fun), but the result of that is it now takes an obscene amount of hits to start hot foot when playing casually. It took a ton of games to bring the number of hits down to something reasonable.

I had to sell it get the foundation redone on the outside of my house. Sold it back to Bob. Hopefully he'll offer it up to me again some time in the future. I really would like to get it back so that I can shop the cabinet.

#2756 6 years ago

While I was getting those two damn screws out of my flipper coil part, (Finally got them out),
I happened to see the part that Pladium was asking about right in front of my face. lol
But just got back to Pinside to see 6 new posts on it. lol

People who think Pinside is all bitching and whining must never ask for tech help because I always find the best people on these boards.

#2757 6 years ago

I've joined the club...White Water is in the house!

I have a couple of issues...notably the whirlpool ramp is cracked/broken down inside and the ball is getting stuck occasionally. The upper flipper is a bit sticky and slow to return to the rest position, but only intermittently. I have a broken plastic ball lock switch (but it still works) and the boulder garden mountain is broken. The cabinet is a bit daggy, with several patch ups, but maybe one day I'll do a cab repair and decal...and unfortunately, no topper. The playfield is in pretty good condition. I had a few other issues when it arrived, but hopefully mostly sorted now.

I'll post here from time to time when I get stuck with repairs, as the workings of a pinball are still foreign to me. I spent years playing, but never owned a machine until now...So far I have spent more time with the glass off, then playing. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue. Cheers

I just bought the 7 piece ramp set for mine.
Everyone is out of the boulder mountains sets for now, hope they will make some more new ones next year.

mbaumle,

Thanks for the pics.

Upper playfield lamp location question. There are 3 type 89 lamps located on/near the upper playfield. The one shown that I'm holding goes where? It is attached underneath to the mini playfield.

#2762 6 years ago

Are you sure that first 89 bulb holder is in the right spot? From memory, it doesn't seem correct.

#2763 6 years ago

Playdium, I literally had the exact same problem re-routing my flashers. So, there should be one right below bigfoot (right under the solenoid plunger), the topmost one is one that goes under the right flasher dome under the mountains, and the last one is placed right under bigfoot cave next to the ramp.

Picture 1 is correct placement, picture 2 is correct as well, that third one in your hand is most definitely the flasher that goes right below bigfoot's divider mechanism.

Protip: Don't do what I did, which was mix up the connectors. I did that, and I had bigfoot cave flashing when a ball was plunged, instead of the upper right mountain. Cross reference the wire colors in the manual. It'll save you the headache of disassembling the upper playfield to re-re-route the cabling.

#2765 6 years ago

Looks like brown and black wire.. bigfoot for sure.

#2766 6 years ago

Yes brown/black conductor. Where does it mount?

#2767 6 years ago

Just behind his hand under the ramp

#2768 6 years ago

OK, got it. Thanks.

I'm looking for one of the upper playfield retaining studs. Anyone have a part number for that?

#2769 6 years ago

I replaced 3 of the ramps and now have the following problem.

When launching a ball, it will make it to the "Lower to Upper Ramp" (#A-15840), at the top of the upper playfield, then roll back down through the "Upper to Lower Ramp", (#03-8691).

The 3 ramps I replaced are, Suicide Canyon Ramp #A-15840, Whirlpool Ramp #03-8693, and Big Foot Ramp #A-15837.
It seems like the Suicide Canyon Ramp is pushing up slightly on the Lower to Upper ramp, preventing the ball continuing through to the play field.

Anyone have similar issues with these?

#2770 6 years ago
Quoted from Playdium:

Suicide Canyon Ramp

You mean Disaster Drop? I've never heard of Suicide Canyon used as a term in White Water before...

The Disaster Drop ramp is kinda tricky. I personally didn't have the particular issue that you're having with your game, but I did have an issue with the ramp exit not sitting far enough left in the game, so the ball would kinda dribble a little bit when exiting, leaving it to go straight down the middle. It's a little funky, but with a little finagling, you should get it to fit. Check the shape of your replacement against the original to make sure that the new one is properly shaped. White Water is absolutely dependent on everything fitting together perfectly.

Any wh20 sellers in MD/PA/Va?

You mean when launching the ball it get's "rejected" and won't go all the way around, down Disaster Drop (the Lower to Upper Ramp)?

I wonder if you don't have the entire upper playfield misaligned. There's lots of stuff that can get jammed and keep that playfield from fitting where its supposed to (cables, connectors, misaligned brackets, the Whirlpool Ramp funnel not sitting all the way down through the lower playfield, another ramp not installed correctly.) Sound like you think Suicide Canyon ("Bigfoot's Cave") might be incorrectly installed. That could easily do it.

When you have everything set right things should naturally fall into place.

Nothing jammed up under the upper playfield. I've assembled and completely disassembled all of it twice now. Seems like the thickness of the new ramps are whats causing the issue.

They must need to be modified.

#2775 6 years ago

Could be. I'm having a hard time understanding what's happening. If the ball is physically unable to travel from the upper playfield down the Spine Chiller (not Disaster Drop as I previously said) off of a plunge means there's a hell of an obstruction somewhere. I have heard of people needing to file down the ramps where they meet the playfields due to thickness.

... just received my playfield from @pinball-dreams, which they restored for me. Damn, that’s just pr0n. I’ve never touched a smoother surface (except maybe an iPad) before. Now it’s again me to be in charge of assembly

What’s up folks, I’ll be potentially joining the club in a week and had a few questions regarding LED installation on this machine:

1) Do you have to disassemble the upper playfield, whirlpool ramp, or anything else to install LEDs or are the bulbs otherwise accessible

2) Should I keep incandescents in the topper or do folks have suggestions on what to replace those with? Wasn’t sure if the overall effect is as good with LEDs vs. incandescents

3) Anyone use an LED kit from cointaker or pinballbulbs or have other LED recommendations?

Thanks!

#2782 6 years ago

I just did mine with the pinballbulbs kit. Yes you have to take the upper playfield off and pretty much all the ramps. It isn’t as bad as it seems, though. I kept incandescents in my topper. You will love the LED change. Just take your time.

Each to their own on LEDs. I changed my GI from LEDs back to incandescents as I thought they didnt do the of colours any favours. Also keep them in the topper imo.

Bally/Williams games most lights can be snagged from under the PF, which is super nice so always check that before disassembling. Disassembling nice at least because you can get a really good cleaning in. Wh20 looks bad but really isn't too difficult. Go slow, take lots of pics if you start to disassemble as well!!

Hello guys! Just joined this club

I recently bought a LED-kit, and what makes me really confused is that flashers 18 and 24 comes with both the normal bayonet flasher and an insert flasher of wedge type (#906). I really cant find those insert flashers, only the normal bayonet flashers.

Anyone has a clue about this?

Well thats really strange since the manual refers to inserts and also the led kit i recieved.

But thanks for replies!

I believe that's because a playfield flasher works in parallel with a flasher in the backbox as well, flashing both at the same with a single transistor.

I have offically joined the club and I'm excited to add a WhiteWater to the collection! I have the following technical question for the group since I suspect something is wrong (likely an opto or switch I presume):

When I hit the whirlpool shot, I suspect that someone is not registering correctly. I've observed a few behaviors that I would suspect are related:

1) When I hit the shot when the whirlpool award is not lit, the ball goes down the whirlpool as it should but the vacation planner doesn't pop up on the colorDMD (I have the latest 3.3 firmware) before the ball kicks out of the lost mine

2) When I hit the shot when the whirlpool award is lit, the ball goes fown the whirlpool and makes the flushing sound and then a whirlpool award mode starts but the introduction animation doesn't come up on the colorDMD. For instance, for each whirlpool mode (i.e. man overboard, spirit of the river, etc..), I'm supposed to be seeing the dmd animation of hte whirlpool with the name of the award mode inside of it...but I don't see that. The mode will start as usual but I miss the animation and callout.

3) When I'm in the whirpool award mode, and hit the whirpool shot successfully, I'm supposed to be seeing the 5 Million dmd animation for each successful shot but don't often see it.

I suspect there's an opto or some switch at the bottom of the whirlpool hole that is either broken or intermittent? Any help to diagnose and fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!!

I have rom version L-3 and sound rom L-1. Could it be that I just need to updated to the home rom? If so, it looks like the home rom LH-6 is latest and greatest...how about the sound rom?

I would update the ROM as a starting place (don't know about the sound but the LH-6 allows you to carry your river class bonus like the game was intended).

There is a switch right before the bigfoot diverter and an opto at the bottom of the whirlpool that you can check. It could be that your opto is dirty or flakey.

I believe that this is simply a ROM revision thing. Updating to later ROMs will show the vacation planner on an unlit whirlpool shot.

There are 4 switches associated with the whirlpool. The first is right at the ramp entrance. The second is towards the back behind the rear boulders. The third--an opto--is right below the cone of the whirlpool (that's what gives the flushing sound), and the final fourth (another opto), is right below the lost mine kickout. Make sure that all the switches are operating correctly with a ball. Sometimes they get funky and do weird things. It took me a while to properly adjust the ramp entrance switch.

Maybe a ROM thing? I honestly never noticed this. For the record, I am running home roms in my game. I definitely recommend them.

I really appreciate the advice. First off, I just ordered the home rom (LH-6) and will definitely be installing it. Secondly, I just removed and cleaned the opto transmitter and receiver at the bottom of the whirlpool funnel. Though the transmitter was fairly dirty, I don't suspect that to be the culprit since I hear the flushing sound when the ball drops into the whirlpool funnel. I will definitely take a closer look at the other three switches you've mentioned. I'm not getting any credit dots, but that probably doesn't rule out any of the other three switches.

When you say "ramp entrance," you're referring to the bigfoot bluff ramp entrance where the ball is diverted by bigfoot...right?

THANKS!
