Hey Guys,

I have a South Park on location and I'm having trouble. We found Q3 blown and replaced the Transistor and the VUX coil and diode. It continues to blow F21. Im not sure what else to test.

Thanks,

Tony

You sure there isn't a stuck ball somewhere or a blown fuse?

sounds like the coil that fires the ball out of the trough into the shooter lane isn't working. check to see if the coils work in the test mode.

I'd also try a factory reset in case the coils work ok in test mode. Could be suffering typical Whitestar Lag.

Ok, so I tried replacing the transistor that was bad, replaced the coil, and diode. Put in a fresh fuse and as soon as I close the door the fuse blows immediately.

Not sure what else I can do.

Q3 was the blown transistor and we had a problem with the VUX coil. Replaced all of them and test good. Put a fresh fuse in and it blows right away. Cant seem to figure out how to troubleshoot.

might be worth the 30 minute trip to take the board down to Llyod at SS Billiards (or possibly the entire machine).

pm him (i believe is username is LTG) and see if he can help you.

otherwise, i would start by unplugging all the coils from the board (connections J8 and J9). if the fuse blows with everything disconnected then you know you have an issue with the board itself. if you start plugging the coils back in then you can at least narrow it down to a set of coils, from there i would start to look for pinched wires, bad diodes, etc.

were/are there any hacks on the board? did one of the solder joints flow into the one next to it and cause a short?

its also possible that B1 is bad (bridge rectifier), causing the fuse to blow
