I just removed the Pinball Pro speakers from my LOTR, and put back in the stock speakers.

I was also working on the Balrog toy, and ended up breaking the bulb socket.

When I fired up the game, there was a very loud buzzing/humming sound coming from the cabinet speaker, and one of the matrix lines (J7) was out.

I was able to get J7 back up by cutting the bulb socket right out and taping the exposed ends of the wires.

But now the buzzing persists. I even put the Pinball Pro speakers back in, and it was the same.

Any idea what this might be?

Thanks.

Anyone???

I noticed if I unplug the speakers molex from the board, the buzzing stops.

Could it be possible that I damaged the pins or perhaps the board when I was unplugging and replugging the connector? It was a bit stubborn and took a little force.

Or is it more likely the issue is elsewhere, and it's just coming through the cab speaker as interference or something?

No one?

Does anyone at least know how to test to see if the pins on the board for the speakers are faulty?

I've tried a factory sub, and even a Pinball Pro one (that uses it's own unique wiring) and both end up with that annoyingly loud buzzing.

That is why I'm thinking it might be something wrong on the board?

Everything else in the game seems to be functioning normally.

Can anyone confirm if the cab and back box speakers run off the same amp on Whitestar (LOTR)?

My Harley has a slight buzz to it, not bad at all. Whitestar same boards just different game.

I bet its the power supply/transformer. Also may want to look at your transistors down in the right corner, look for a hot or blown-out or leaking transistor .

Power supply on the board, or in the cabinet?

And wouldn't thisalso affect the back box speakers?

Sorry, Yes it could be the white-star board, is there any battery damage?

So you saying "ONLY" midrange/subwoofer is making the noise, the speaker mounted on the bottom?

I will look through my manual to see where there might be an issue around the J7, have you tried moving the speaker wires around to locate a possible failure allowing interference?

Its the holiday here in the US I will be busy for the next 2 days.

I have actually tried installed two completely separate sets of speakers (factory and Pinball Pro) both with their own wiring, and the same issue.

I was doing some work on the Balrog toy, and I broke one of the bulb bases which I think caused the short in J7. I ended up cutting the bulb socket out, taping up the wires (until I order a new bulb socket) and replacing the fuse (F7).

However, when I turned the game on, the buzzing was still going on, which I'm now not sure if it was connected at all to the issue with J7, or if it's totally unrelated.

And yes, the backbox speakers (2 speakers) sound completely fine, but the sub (cabinet) has a loud buzzing sound with no audio playing (or at least none that you can make out over that buzzing).

Thanks for looking into this

LOTR has two backbox speakers?
What connector are you referring to by J7?

Can you post a YT video of the behavior?

Haven't had a chance to do a video yet, but I did a little test tonight. I took the reversed the speakers (so 2 to 3, and 3 to 2 on connector CN4) and the buzzing went from the cabinet to the backbox.

I feel pretty confident now that the problem is in that speaker, amp, or whatever else may be connected to it.

Thoughts?

Anyone?

Stern tech support wrote back to me and said they think it is the TDA on U26.

Anyone think this could be the issue? Won't time to look at it over the next little bit, but wanted to get some thoughts on it.

I don’t think that LOTR came with three speakers. Can you verify the two backbox speakers are OEM?

I think all games have 3 speakers...

Two backbox, one cabinet.

You've improved my understanding.
Some have three. Some have two connected mono. The only true OEM 3 channel game was Apollow 13.

Ahhhy I see what you did there

In that case, yes, the back box speakers join into one set.

On the CPU/sound board, two wire are for the backbox, and two for the cabinet.

Wondering if someone can take a quick look at their game, and confirm if the speaker wires are the same as it my photos.

My TSPP has the black striped wires going to "+", and being the same boards/speakers, I'm wondering if this is how I messed things up.

When I took my Pinball Pro speakers out, and reinstalled the factory ones, I logically connected the white striped wires to the "+".

Did I mix up the polarity and blow something?

Would really appreciate any help on this.

Thanks

Just an update on this. Replaced the two amps on the CPU/Soundboard and everything is sorted!
