I played both machines for the first time in the last 2 weeks. I wanted to love JD, because I was a HUGE fan of the comic books as a kid. I only had about 10 plays, but my overall impressions were not good. The shots weren't interesting to me. I love the look of it. Maybe I just couldn't get out of my head that it was designed by a child molester... I don't know. Anyway, wasn't a fan, which I know is a minority opinion. Maybe I'd really like it with lots of time on it.

After only a few plays on WH20, I fell in LOVE! TOTAL blast to play! Moved up very close to the top of my list for must-owns! If my next purchase weren't going to be a TS, it would definitely be WH20!

Quoted from snyper2099:

I'm certain you have your facts mixed up here. Both in regards to the designer and to which game is better.
Would you like your Audi less if you knew the guy that designed the steering wheel was accused or found guilty of something similar?

https://www.pinballnews.com/site/2017/08/29/john-trudeau-charged/

Don’t have my facts mixed up. Educated presumption, perhaps. Child pornographers are generally already molesting or plan to. I dealt with these cases for YEARS, and I used to teach at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

And yes, if I knew that the guy who designed my Audi’s steering wheel was a child molester or child pornographer, it would bother me every time I drove the vehicle. It wouldn’t you?

Quoted from PinKopf:

Pretty sure Trudeau was just arrested a second time on charges of a decade of child molestation of some kind - I'm too lazy to look it up. So SeaLawyer appears to be completely correct...

http://www.theherald-news.com/2018/05/29/man-arrested-in-bolingbrook-sex-abuse-case-now-in-will-county-jail/az4qnxs/

I hadn't seen this yet, but believe me, I hate that I was right about this case. The odds that he wasn't a molester already were infinitesimally small. I'm also reasonably certain this wasn't his only victim, though she may have been his first. Based on the article, she was likely his stepdaughter. Recall my "target of opportunity" comment above? I wish I weren't an expert on this.

Quoted from snyper2099:

Let us all be thankful for this.
I can see it now...
"Prosecutor, what are the circumstances of the charges?"
--"The defendant bought a candy bar and was walking towards the victim. We just knew that he was up to no good so we went ahead and arrested him. A warrant was obtained and the investigators found illegal porn on his phone."
--"The charge is rape."
Judge -- "Guilty!"
Your previous post made it look like you were against all porn by leaving out some important words. Now that you've corrected it, you look a little less insane.

Wow, Matt. Your comments are just ridiculous. It was CLEAR to any objective reader in the context of my entire original post that the word "child" in the penultimate sentence modified both "molesters" and "pornographers." I added an extra "child" to make it clear to the non-objective readers, such as yourself. Clearly, you don't care about making ignorant statements, but on the off chance there's still hope for you, the news story from 2 days ago is above. If you choose not to read it, here's the summarized version:

John Trudeau, famed pinball designer, began molesting a female member of his household under the age of 13 (presumably his stepdaughter) in September of 1993, the same time he was rolling out the Judge Dredd pin... That aggravated sexual abuse of child (also known as child rape) continued for 7 years, which means she was actually under the age of 11, but Iowa apparently distinguishes between tender years and non-tender years using the age of 13, instead of 12 like most jurisdictions.

So let's recap: in addition to BEING CAUGHT possessing images of child sexual abuse last year, John Trudeau, famed pinball designer, was sexually abusing a child in his home for a period of 7 years. Given my experience with these cases, the likelihood that this was an isolated incident (over the course of 7 years) or that this was his sole victim is very low. I'm not saying you're a bad person or that you support child molestation by choosing to own John Trudeau pins. If you don't care, that's your choice. I choose not to own any pin designed by him.

....

So, your response to my current job description was this?

Quoted from snyper2099:

I'm relieved that my tax dollars are hard at work putting food on your table.

???

So, you think holding terrorists accountable for committing terrorist acts is a bad thing? Or just something that the rest of civilized society should pay for, except you?

Wow.

Quoted from snyper2099:

There you go jumping to conclusions again. A common theme here...
I’m glad you are an expert at something. Next time, let’s try to stick to the topic. I just discovered that a person that worked on WH20 back in 1992 was convicted of manslughter. Does anyone care? I certainly know that I don’t.
I just wanted to establish that my ignorant existance and my American rights are helping pay your salary.
It’s a worthy cause and I hope you are successful. Also, I GLADY pay for all of the civil services my country provides me. Otherwise, I would not live here.

Nice try. I jumped to no conclusion on your comment. Your sarcastic response to my current job assignment could be reasonably interpreted no other way. My initial conclusion was a highly educated deduction, that not only was reasonable, but turned out to be correct, inconveniently for you.

And I was on topic. I acknowledged that my opinion of the pin might have been colored by my bias against the designer because of the heinous nature of his crimes. You ignorantly claimed I had my facts wrong, and then proceeded to malign me... Forgive me for responding.

Quoted from snyper2099:

You are living in a dream. Facts of what? Using your logic, someone on trial for murder is already a murderer and you can label them as such in a forum and form opinions as such. Maybe you should peruse some criminal justice forums and talk about pinball.
You assumed that I don't care about the job you do. You are wrong. You assumed many other things as well and even stated you don't want to type them.
Let's not confuse accusations with guilt just yet. Carry on...

Ahhh, I was waiting for you to fall into the trap of the "innocent until proven guilty" fallacy (which is what your "using your logic" statement does). I thought about addressing it preemptively, but figured I'd let you continue to demonstrate your ignorance.

"Innocent until proven guilty" is a legal fiction we, as a civilized society, created to try to help ensure fair trials and reduce false convictions. It exists only in the courtroom, which is as it should be. I'm sure you'll contradict me, and suggest I have no basis for my opinion, but you'll still be wrong.

I'll give you a simple hypothetical. You're walking a little old lady across the street; a man pulls up to the intersection, gets out of his vehicle, shoots the old lady in the head (killing her), grabs her purse, and drives away. Is he a murderer? Is he a robber? You witnessed it, so there's no question in your mind as to the reliability (and absence of legal justification) of what you saw. The answer is OF COURSE he's a "murderer" and a "robber." If you claim otherwise, you're either deluding yourself or being deliberately obtuse to save face for your moronic comments in this thread. The fact that the hypothetical man in my example hasn't been convicted of those crimes yet means only that he's not a "convicted murderer" and a "convicted robber."

John Trudeau is a child pornographer and a child molester. He'll be convicted of both, almost certainly, and will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars continuing to profit from the proceeds of his pinball designs. Knowing what happens to chili mo's in prison is some comfort, though.

Hey counsellor, maybe you should turn that keen legal mind to the facts a bit closer.

Lol, you obviously didn't read my original post:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/white-water-vs-judge-dredd#post-4428231

I never said John Trudeau designed WH20. He designed JD. I played both recently for the first time and loved WH20, but was disappointed in JD (which I expected to like given my love for the source material, having grown up in the UK and Australia). I conceded that my opinion of JD's designer may have colored my opinion of the pin, but probably only slightly.

My keen legal mind thanks you for proving its keenness...

Quoted from snyper2099:

Agree with you on all points except the last paragraph. If it turns out the way you think it will, no one here really cares. We're talking about WH20 and JD pinball man, pinball.
LOL. I was waiting for you to fall into the trap of the-- "No one gives a crap about your 16+ years of experience on blah blah blah."
Come back to this forum with an opinion about JD or WH20 when you have 16 years of experience collecting pins and take you "pinball" opinions over to your criminal justice forums.
Examples:
I like the way the loops are linked together in JD
I like the way the upper play field shots are fed in WH20
I do not like the animations as much in JD as in WH20
I do not like the design of the mine kickout on WH20

I stated what I liked and didn't like about the pin, independent of my distaste for the designer. Personal taste about a pin's layouts, shots, art, sound, etc., are all subjective. If you had disagreed with my assessment of the pin, I'd have conceded that it was subjective (since I conceded I was likely in the minority). Instead, you chose to talk out of your butt.
