Dredd is a neat game but it doesn't hold a candle to White Water.

#3 5 years ago

Man, I love Dredd and even I’m gonna say Whitewater, although you can buy 2 Dredds for the price of a decent Whitewater these days.

#4 5 years ago

If cost was no factor, whitewater over dredd all day long. Having said that, for the money it costs to get a decent whitewater, I’d probably take a dredd and a decent system 11.

Agreed for sure. OP never mentioned cost, that would change everything.

this poll will be way lopsided .... but gameplay, whitewater for sure, price difference is way off. JD is still a cool pin and enjoy playing it!

#8 5 years ago

Own both, preference to WH20.
Neither title is deep, but WH20 has more satisfying shots. If you want something cheaper today, choose DM, as it has the same type of flow.

#9 5 years ago

From my limited experience playing both at TPF a couple of times, I like Whitewater more although I enjoyed playing both. Are you really making a purchase decision between the two or is this just some random thread?

#10 5 years ago

It’s not fair. JD is a much cheaper game. WW is way better.

I was offered a trade and i need to stablish a cash diffrence for it

#12 5 years ago

I know I will be in the minority or the only person but I vote judge Dredd it's always been my favorite game.

#13 5 years ago

The music on #judgedredd grates on me in a hurry.

#14 5 years ago

WH20 and it’s not even close for me.

JD is an interesting game, but it just doesn’t come together for me.

#15 5 years ago

No one can ever tell me why Wh2o is such a great game. Not saying it isn't a great game but Fish Tales and Wh2o never appealed to me as a player. JD has always appealed to me as a player. I've been playing all 3 for 15+ years at shows, in leagues, and in private collections.

Quoted from YeOldPinPlayer:

The music on #judgedredd grates on me in a hurry.

I was thinking the exact same thing for Wh20.

#16 5 years ago

I am going to be the minority here and say JD is better. I have owned both and although WH20 was a fine game, I prefer JD over it.

#17 5 years ago

I enjoy playing WH2O a lot more than JD, although the deadwood ball lock is still pretty cool.

The ridiculous price that WH2O's list for these days can give you an inkling to how desirable it is.

#18 5 years ago
Quoted from snyper2099:

No one can ever tell me why Wh2o is such a great game.

Fun ramps, great integration and use of the upper playfield, flowy and fast combo shots, unique layout, easy to understand rules, great art, progressive music, funny callouts, secret passage, awesome Vacation Jackpot show.

#19 5 years ago

i think white water is the most over rated b/w game

i think it would be stale pretty quick at home. just try to line up you mb with the 5x playfield and thats the game in a nut shell. doesnt matter what you do in anything else if you are hitting double or triple jackpots at 5x O_o

#20 5 years ago

Biased as I've owned JD for many years. I love the mode based gameplay of JD over the multi-ball focused play of WH20.

I think you can make the call on your preference, modes vs. MB. The diversity of JD modes, plus the lower price, makes it a homerun for me. (Oh, and I'm a comic nerd and love the JD character...)

However, I also love WH20 and play it on location whenever I come across one.

#21 5 years ago

WH20 is not perfect but still a great game. Tons of great, unique features and just fun to play. Love the theme. Maybe it's not the best tournament game but that's true of a lot of games. JD never did much for me either. Price difference is huge and reflects desirability. WH20 prices are pretty crazy. I like the game but not that much. JD seems like a great game for the money but just never got into it. In the end, rather play WH20 if had a choice.

#22 5 years ago

I have both games and WH20 gets played 10x more often than JD.

The music, the callouts, the "one more game" factor, the timings for flow (like sinking the whirlpool challenge shots) make it the most amazing game.

AFM might be the best game Williams ever made, but WH20 is by far the most clever.

the price its that high?

#24 5 years ago

JD is wide, and has cool animations...and that's aboot it.

I'm starting to see the price inch up above $5k.

Ramps. Ramps and mountains. Ramps, mountains and boulders. Ramps, mountains, boulders and topper. Ramps, mountains, boulders, topper and playfields.

As I've said before I've always though that which the current climate of game buyers, having to fix up/"restore" every single thing on a game, it can drive the price up and WH20 may be ground zero for this.
When you see it listed high the first "excuse" is "Well all the ramps and stuff are expensive!" Today's buyers almost see it as a foregone conclusion that new ramps must be bought; which of course is not true. (although I DID buy one or 2 new ones for mine )

True, dos_reboot's was a dumpster fire and needed work.

Hey dude, the flipper buttons colours had to match. No way I was going to let that slide.

#29 5 years ago

I have had both and White Water is a crowd favorite, Judge Dredd not so much. Theme was cool on Dredd but White Water is just fun. White Water has a variety of shots that are all satisfying yet make-able.

2 weeks later
#30 5 years ago

I played both machines for the first time in the last 2 weeks. I wanted to love JD, because I was a HUGE fan of the comic books as a kid. I only had about 10 plays, but my overall impressions were not good. The shots weren't interesting to me. I love the look of it. Maybe I just couldn't get out of my head that it was designed by a child molester... I don't know. Anyway, wasn't a fan, which I know is a minority opinion. Maybe I'd really like it with lots of time on it.

After only a few plays on WH20, I fell in LOVE! TOTAL blast to play! Moved up very close to the top of my list for must-owns! If my next purchase weren't going to be a TS, it would definitely be WH20!

I'm certain you have your facts mixed up here. Both in regards to the designer and to which game is better.

Would you like your Audi less if you knew the guy that designed the steering wheel was accused or found guilty of something similar?

I agree with your comments Sealawyer.
I love everything about WH20, that’s why I had HEP refurbish mine for me.

#33 5 years ago

Both are not keepers for me. I had both and I prefer JD, for theme, layout, modes, music.
I hated WH2O, i can't stand the music and the callouts.

#34 5 years ago

OP...I vote for your avatar pic

#35 5 years ago

Have had WH2O for 5 years now, played it regularly when it was new in 1993. Haven’t tired of it a bit. Love riding the rapids at home, at friends, and on location.

Don’t have my facts mixed up. Educated presumption, perhaps. Child pornographers are generally already molesting or plan to. I dealt with these cases for YEARS, and I used to teach at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

And yes, if I knew that the guy who designed my Audi’s steering wheel was a child molester or child pornographer, it would bother me every time I drove the vehicle. It wouldn’t you?

#37 5 years ago

I sold my whitewater for 2K. Wish I hadn't ☹

#38 5 years ago

White Water is so goo that I have 2
One pimped great and the other a players one

You are insane. I suppose that next you will be assuming that all homosexuals are in to pedaphelia.

I sure hope you never work in the criminal justice system.

Last I checked, adult consentual porn is legal.

Wouldn’t bother me because I wouldn’t care. Just because someone is a criminal or in to porn does not mean that I am going to change my life around and rearrange my beliefs.

#42 5 years ago

Not sure how this got derailed about porn??? but WH2O wins all day long. Fantastic game. 5X playfild + jackpots = happy pinhead.

#43 5 years ago

Pretty sure Trudeau was just arrested a second time on charges of a decade of child molestation of some kind - I'm too lazy to look it up. So SeaLawyer appears to be completely correct...

Anyway, WH2O is generally more fun than JD imo, but JD is still a solid pin that trades hands for significantly less $$$. I have a JD and have enjoyed it for a year plus. I feel like it's a good bargain option and beats the crap out of DM, etc, that usually sell for similar prices.

#44 5 years ago

Let us all be thankful for this.

I can see it now...

"Prosecutor, what are the circumstances of the charges?"

--"The defendant bought a candy bar and was walking towards the victim. We just knew that he was up to no good so we went ahead and arrested him. A warrant was obtained and the investigators found illegal porn on his phone."

--"The charge is rape."

Judge -- "Guilty!"

Your previous post made it look like you were against all porn by leaving out some important words. Now that you've corrected it, you look a little less insane. Still, "educated presumption" quote is so bad.

I'm relieved that my tax dollars are hard at work, putting food on your table.

Now, let's hear more about why WH20 is a great game.

I hadn't seen this yet, but believe me, I hate that I was right about this case. The odds that he wasn't a molester already were infinitesimally small. I'm also reasonably certain this wasn't his only victim, though she may have been his first. Based on the article, she was likely his stepdaughter. Recall my "target of opportunity" comment above? I wish I weren't an expert on this.

Wow, Matt. Your comments are just ridiculous. It was CLEAR to any objective reader in the context of my entire original post that the word "child" in the penultimate sentence modified both "molesters" and "pornographers." I added an extra "child" to make it clear to the non-objective readers, such as yourself. Clearly, you don't care about making ignorant statements, but on the off chance there's still hope for you, the news story from 2 days ago is above. If you choose not to read it, here's the summarized version:

John Trudeau, famed pinball designer, began molesting a female member of his household under the age of 13 (presumably his stepdaughter) in September of 1993, the same time he was rolling out the Judge Dredd pin... That aggravated sexual abuse of child (also known as child rape) continued for 7 years, which means she was actually under the age of 11, but Iowa apparently distinguishes between tender years and non-tender years using the age of 13, instead of 12 like most jurisdictions.

So let's recap: in addition to BEING CAUGHT possessing images of child sexual abuse last year, John Trudeau, famed pinball designer, was sexually abusing a child in his home for a period of 7 years. Given my experience with these cases, the likelihood that this was an isolated incident (over the course of 7 years) or that this was his sole victim is very low. I'm not saying you're a bad person or that you support child molestation by choosing to own John Trudeau pins. If you don't care, that's your choice. I choose not to own any pin designed by him.

....

So, your response to my current job description was this?

Quoted from snyper2099:

I'm relieved that my tax dollars are hard at work putting food on your table.

???

So, you think holding terrorists accountable for committing terrorist acts is a bad thing? Or just something that the rest of civilized society should pay for, except you?

Wow.

#46 5 years ago

Judge Dredd is a great game. But White Water is a "Special" game. White Water for me is a top 5 all time game.

#47 5 years ago

I wonder how Judge Dredd would deal with Famed alleged child molester John Trudeau? Probably wouldn't be pretty but I'd be playing Wh20 whilst it happened.

#48 5 years ago

JD all the way for me.

The modes are fun, and with the extra buttons on the cab, you can pick the modes in whatever order you want. The fact that the "Start Mode" shot changes between two different shots is also a nice touch.

One of the modes is a double scoring two-ball multiball and that is super cool.

Making the sniper tower shot from the bottom left flipper feels incredibly satisfying.

The animations and the callouts are top notch as well, especially if you are a fan of the comics. The tongue-in-cheek comedy is awesome and the game is packed with easter eggs. Hit the red buttons during the sniper mode and a dog comes out and takes a leak on the sniper corpse!

The SuperGame option is fun as well. If I'm hammering away to get a better score on JD and want to take a break from serious game play, I'll start up a SuperGame just for the fun "newscast" and sounds that play at the beginning of each ball.

There you go jumping to conclusions again. A common theme here...

I’m glad you are an expert at something. Next time, let’s try to stick to the topic and not insert things like, “I just discovered that a person that worked on WH20 back in 1992 was convicted of manslughter.” Does anyone care? I certainly know that I don’t.

I just wanted to establish that my ignorant existance and my American rights are helping pay your salary.

It’s a worthy cause and I hope you are successful. Also, I GLADY pay for all of the civil services my country provides me. Otherwise, I would not live here.

I brought no more rediculous in to this thread than you.

It’s not my place to judge another person. I believe in our criminal justice system, even if it’s not perfect. I believe in a fair trial and the system itself. Don’t you?

Nice try. I jumped to no conclusion on your comment. Your sarcastic response to my current job assignment could be reasonably interpreted no other way. My initial conclusion was a highly educated deduction, that not only was reasonable, but turned out to be correct, inconveniently for you.

And I was on topic. I acknowledged that my opinion of the pin might have been colored by my bias against the designer because of the heinous nature of his crimes. You ignorantly claimed I had my facts wrong, and then proceeded to malign me... Forgive me for responding.
