hi,

I have been trying on and off to fix my Whirlwind that i bought 1,5 year ago (!)
The game did not work when i got it, and the people i bought it from never had it working.

I have several errors with it, so after switching out the relay and other things on the aux power board, reworking the power and the interconnect board, i am back at the switch matrix.

When i test the switch levels as per pinwiki, switch column 9 of 1J10 to 1J8 all pins, dead.
Switch rows in switch levels test from 1J8 1 and 1 to 9 of 1J10 all good.

The errors i get when i go into test are:

Any and all pointers are appreciated!

Update:

All the switches on the playfield are working in test mode when i touch them.

More update:

Testing the realy on the Aux powerboard with aligator clip on Q8 and the other lead on tthe ground strap, it does nothing.
But when i test the Q8 quick and dirty (recently replaced) it is fine.
I have never gotten the A/C realy to function properly, i guess there is somehting deeper in the game not working.

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi....

Axl,

You said that the switch row works in test mode but during game play none of them work?

With my limited experience, I would be at the point where I would start ordering new boards or sending them to someone for repair. sorry, I know that's not very helpful or cheap.

The concept of working in test but not during play is difficult to explain.

I have to confess that i am very close to buying new boards for it...

When i am i test mode, and touch the switches, they are fine, but in test mode, i get switch errors on the same switches that are working.

One of my main concerns are the A/C relay not working.

I will be back at the club house tomorrow to do some futher diagnostics.

If all the switches work in test mode then the jumper test from pinwiki should also work. So I think there's something wrong in the test method there.

I presume the errors you are getting are that the switches have not been closed in XX games. That error should clear up if the switches are closed during switch test (or a game). If that doesn't happen I would try a factory reset.
