WW fuse.jpg

Hi

I just set up my Whirlwind pinball and it played great for about 15 games ... then the "topper blower fan" stopped working.

The fuse for the TRIAC driver pcb, under the "topper blower fan" in the backbox was blown. It had a 250 volt, 3 amp, slow burn fuse in there.

I have 2 different copies of Whirlwind manuals and they show different fuses to be used there ...
250 volt, 1 amp, slow burn fuse
250 volt, 5 amp, slow burn fuse

Can somebody PLEASE check there Whirlwind pinball and see what fuse you actually have in yours? Thanks in advance

While you are waiting...IPDB manual shows F1 to be a 5A SB on both parts list and schematic diagram for C-13088 triac board. Marco replacement triac boards for Whirlwind are stuffed with a 5A SB as well.

Quoted from DB62:

I'll preface this by saying I don't have a WW.

What are the dates on the front of your manuals? I would always go for the later date when looking at things like this.

The manual on IPDB says January 1990. http://mirror2.ipdb.org/files/2765/Williams_1990_Whirlwind_Operations_Manual_Br_With_Schematics.pdf

I can see why this would be confusing.
Page 40 says the fuse on the triac board should be a 5ASB.
Page 50 says the fuse on the triac board should be a 1ASB.
Page 80 says the fuse on the triac board should be a 5ASB.

But GLM sells the replacement triac board with a 5ASB fuse (which is the board Marco sells):

http://www.greatlakesmodular.com/index.html?http://www.greatlakesmodular.com/products/pinball/sy11tb1.html

So I would say 5ASB is the safe bet.

You also have to make sure you put the correct fuse on the aux power driver board. I think the sticker in the backbox says 2.5ASB for F1 but the manual and others have said it should be 5ASB and that the sticker is wrong.

Thanks everyone!!!! Everything is back up and working after replacing BOTH fuses with the 5 amp. The old ones in mine were both 3 amp ... with one of them being blown.
