I just received these 2 pics from the seller and its quite apparent that there is significant PF and Insert wear. What would be a fair offer for this WW? Let me know
Thanks

I don't see "significant" wear and you can buy an insert set for 50 bucks.

That looks like a $1800-$2500 game to me. Yeah that's a big range but welcome to pinball price checks.

#3 9 years ago

$1500-$1700. Typical wear around spinners. Inserts are definitely worn in the middle.

Neither do I. I see some typical wear around the spinners and inserts. Nowhere near what I would consider significant

I would say around 2000 or less, depending on where you live.

#5 9 years ago

I guess I don;t know the scale people use, but that looks rough to me. I wouldn't pay more than 1700 for it just cosmetically....that's before looking inside.

#7 9 years ago

I can only go by what I have seen WW's in similar condition go for in recent months. This looks like a $1700+ dollar game. But need to know condition of boards, cabinet, and displays too. Playfield wear is just one aspect of the overall worth.

We saw a total beater WW sell for about $1200 last year. Worn to the wood, word cabinet, and several issues to boot.

They tend to go higher in N.CA as well, but I think this would go for 1800 minimum up here. If it was a DP game then even more.

#9 9 years ago

Depends on if that thing is clearcoated or not. If that's just decal wear, no worries. There are decals. If it's chips in clearcoat, that's a different issue.

Assuming it's NOT cc'd and just decal wear, I'd say 2k. Playfield doesn't look too bad at all. How's the cab?

I sold my ww for 2k about a year ago and it was pretty decent. Needed some mylar to be removed, but that's easy. Had leds too and nice cab.

It's not clearcoated. That game shipped without clearcoat and without installed mylar (though it was included if buyers wanted to install it).

Yes they made a few Diamondplate but obviously this one wasn't.

#11 9 years ago

When I said "clearcoated" I was referring to diamondplating.

#12 9 years ago

i foolishly sold a nice one 2 years ago for $1600. The guy had to drive 11 hours round trip though. He is on here, he made it look really nice.

#13 9 years ago

Is it working? Looks like new rubbers on it and spinner decals. If it's working, presumably some sort of shopped and in the condition I'm seeing, it's a $1800 game. Sorry, didn't notice the insert wear at first.

#14 9 years ago

It is working 100% so its just cosmetic, thing is up here in this shape guys want 2500 to 3000 and from what I'm reading with exchange and the fact its a little tougher to come by this one should be 2500 max. I'll see what I can do, think he wants more like 3500. Thanks

#15 9 years ago

I'm thinking that machine should run around $2K. I gave $1850 for mine. Already had inserts decals applied but all there and fully working. All LEDs. That was a year ago and this game seems to still be climbing in value.

#16 9 years ago

Yeah that sounds about right and that would mean 2500 is a fair price in T.O. for this game, but do I pass it up at 3000 over 500 bucks, do I care, its delivered I have to do nothing but play it. Inserts don't cost that much and its been shopped so the fan and spinners work well. This is always the issue, do I lose it now over 500 dollars. I'm my own best salesmen.

#17 9 years ago

Just got some more pics.

I'd pay 2k every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Looks pretty clean.

#19 9 years ago

No one gonna call out the legs as being incorrect? lol

Yeah, looks pretty clean overall. Fan housing is not super yellow which is always a plus.

#20 9 years ago
Quoted from pinballholder:

Apparently yes.

#22 9 years ago

Definitely check the boards. I see all stock high scores. He probably reset them, but it could be a sign of battery problem.

The fan was rebuilt, legs I always replace so that's no concern. If I can get it at 3000 then I'm going to do it. Even if I only get 2500 back but get to play for 6 months a year I'm cool with that. Really appreciate all the advice.

Yeah this is the standard "more pics that don't show what you are looking for;" A classic pinball move.

Quoted from TheLaw:

Exactly.

OP probably just forgot to post the pics of the insert wear, etc.

#27 9 years ago

Looks similar to the WW I sold a couple of months ago for 2k.

#28 9 years ago

I think I know the seller judging from the pics. If it's who I think it is....I'm betting this is in Kingston...it likely won't be working 100%. Something to keep in mind. If you are cool with doing the work, no worries. But if you are expecting a 100% plug and play game, I think you will be disappointed.

I've personally bought games at full value knowing they will need work, but sometimes that is the only way to get a game that you want locally.

Good luck!

#29 9 years ago

WWind is a great game but it's not like they are scarce. If seller isn't sending you the pics you want or answering questions to your satisfaction it's time to move on.

Dude sends you 10 playfield photos that show you exactly the same thing? He can do better than that. And take off the glass for Chrissakes, and how about a few with the game off with good lighting so you can really judge the playfield condish?

I think it looks pretty nice but I'd be annoyed by the lack of clear, varied pics if I were looking at buying this one.

#30 9 years ago

WW is a great game, but 3k for that is a reach and a half. There are better games to be had in that range IMHO. My WW was a bit nicer with a new lockdown receiver, full LEDs and a LED OCD board and I sold it for $2300.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/fs-nice-whirlwind-in-south-florida-2300

#31 9 years ago

Even an average condition WW would be a very difficult game to find under $2k IMHO. There are a decent amount of them out there, but people just don't seem to get rid of the game. For good reason: It's a keeper and a absolute joy to play.

Still, can't help but agree regarding playfield pics. I wouldn't assume seller is trying to pull a fast one on you, just have to be specific about what you need. I found out the hard way that a System 11 playfields can hide loads of secrets (raised inserts, bubbling mylar, paint lifting under mylar, ball swirls, etc).

#32 9 years ago

Having patience pays off.

I went to look at 5 different WW machines before I finally brought one home with me. I probably put close to 2500 miles on my truck, hoping to find a nice WW.

On the 5th trip, I scored a really nice one for $1800. Mint playfield, no raised inserts, etc.

This was last June.

I walked away from several WW machines in similar condition. All of them were priced $2200+

I'm SO glad I waited.

#33 9 years ago

Also, if the game in that condition is worth $3k to you, delivered to your door, and reselling is not a concern, that's hard to argue with. WW is a classic. There are more expensive games out there for sure, but WW is still a top 30 game, and one of the few Alpha/Numeric games that high on the Pinside top 100

I got very lucky with mine, but passed on a few over the years, from 1600+. Ended up getting a DP one for a lot less than any of the others. It will clean up nice.

Yep, and I just found that out which will be ended this deal for now. he said come to Kingston and have a look so he must have it but then also wrote I might see something else I like more, I bought a IJ4 a year or so a go and it came in perfect shape then I bought an ironman which was highly routed but claimed it was mint that alone is reason to back away, it's cool I have a nice T2 lined up and will buy that instead. I just got a FH 2 weeks ago so I'm getting my Pat L fill for now. Thanks everyone.

#36 9 years ago

Where are you guys getting these prices? Pinballprice.com and Boston pinball show the average price at about 1700. There's one on CL by me asking 2700 and he says he's got offers at 2300-2400, seems like people are way overpaying.

#37 9 years ago

If anyone has one for $1,700 let me know.✌️

#38 9 years ago
Quoted from Lermods:

I think those are decent indicators but they don't always take into condition or location and sometimes the sample size is too small to be meaningful. The bottom line is that WW is a top 30 pinball and will have a bit of a premium compared to other System 11 pins.

I have been watching WW prices for about a year now and clean player condition ones started at around $2K a year ago and seem to be around $2.5K now. I think there is just a normal ebb and flow as certain pins get hot and the market deals with the supply and demand. A lot of WW owners don't like to part with theirs when they get a clean one and so nicer ones are harder to find.

If you want one for 3k, I have one. New ramps, de-mylared. Needs new inserts though. It has full leds , new fan topper, new pinscore display.

#41 9 years ago

I know where one is for $1000 right now. It is fully working. I like to call it a half white wood version due to the fact that there is absolutely no paint left on the lower playfield lol. I'll add a pic in just a minute

#42 9 years ago

I offered him $800 before I bought mine but he wouldn't budge off of $1000. Of course CPR playfields were available at the time so that was going into the equation. All together I could have came out with a nice machine but... I still would have had $2K in it.

And 25-50 hours in labor

#44 9 years ago

jmountjoy, please check your PMs. I've actually been considering / wanting a project WW as my next pin and would love to know more. I already bought the translite for my brother since he's a stormchaser, ha ha.

That's the fun part. I am not in this to make money so time spent on a machine is just for fun. If the dollars balance out than al is well on my end.

I just purchased a WW in the Seattle area for $2200 and that was the friends and family price. I find the price guides to be way out of whack compared to Pacific Northwest prices. I think that they are mostly based on auction sales that do not take into consideration the buyers premium or shipping costs associated with the purchase.

A lot of auction result probably do not take into consideration the condition. Some of those games at auction do not work

The Northwest really needs its own price guide. You simply don't see the same prices out here, that you see on pinside. Inventory is just WAY too low compared to the demand out here.

I bought this Whirlwind and it was not shopped I put over $1000.00 into new boards to get it working correctly and have done some playfield work although I am a total newbie . I love it don't regret it for one minute but it was not perfect or shopped in my opinion and the fan did not work correctly needed a new triac board - rams on the main board where bad, sounds were not all working. It's all new now next step is to repair a few inserts although there not that bad.
blunoonan sent me a new system 11 boardset and was a big help he told me to look for him on this forum . I was surprised to see my pinball machine on here..lol
