I hate to come off like a salesman but I read this post and thought it might be helpful or a perfect fit for you so here it goes.
I have got a nice original Diamond Plated Whirlwind playfield for sale.
It is used and in good condition.

Quoted from jgadzia:

its fine to come off as a salesman if you are selling something. is this a restore? how much do you want for it?

It is an original not restored. $450 because it is a true Diamond Plated version and in really nice shape.
Would allow you to maintain a level of originality and upgrade your game at the same time.
I will try to find the pictures of it.

Quoted from DK:

An OG Diamondplate. Nice! How many of those were made? Asking for a friend

I think it is 200 or less.
If you have any ambitions of clearing a System 11 playfield with auto clear then a Diamond plate version is just about a must.
Believe me I have lots of experience with them. Even the NOS non Diamond plated version is less desirable.

Quoted from jgadzia:

well that went quick. thats what i get for not checking back quick enough. looking closely at my playfield i am starting to think that the mylar is just bubbling up. HEP you said you had lots of experience clearing a non diamond plate playfield. Is it just not worth doing because of the work. does the paint come off easily?

What normally happens when you clear them is that the inserts look fine at first but as the clear cures over days it will likely develop little white spots. These are cosmetic not actual bubbles and it will require the inserts to be stripped and redone via insert decals, painting or printing.
I think I cover it best in this SOF restore
