Hi my name is Harold Burgess Jr. I am trying to fix my Whirlwind Pinball. I got it broken, but I have been able to get it working after replacing the resistors on the power board the 39k 1w resistors. Now a few weeks ago my whole lower display stopped working. The top 16 digit display works ok just all the lower 16 digits is blank. I am not sure what would cause the lower display to stop working.. The part number is D-12232-1. I have the schematic for the display, but I am self taught learning to trouble shoot and building circuits. Can you point me to the most likely bad chip or something that would cause that issue. The machine is a system 11B Williams Whirlwind. The schematic for the master display is 16-9033. I checked the resistors on the power board they read perfect. The glow on the lower display is from the camera. I just do not have 250$ for a new display, It would be nice to play 4 players not 2. Thank you for your time. Have a grate day!!!

Bad display glass or loose connection would be my first guess. Have you checked the connectors on that display?

My friend brought over his Pin Score LED Display and we installed it for test purpose. Both displays worked perfect. So I still think it is a bad chip or something on the display board, or not getting proper voltage, I will have to make time to check that. I also cleaned all the connections to all the display assembly. Want to hear something funny, now my whole play field went dark. I spent 3 hours to figure out it was the J9 connector on the interconnect board number D-12313-574, Replaced the connector with a new one. Its seems pin 1 on J9 is for the play-field lights thank God for schematics. Play-field works again. I just wanted to say thanks for trying to help on the display issue. I am thinking of getting a Universal Programmer, and replace all the chips that I think might be the problem on that board. I got all the M.A.M.E and PIN M.A.M.E stuff. I will eventually find the answer. Have a grate day!!!!!!!!
