I have a few segments out on the display of my Whirlwind. I pushed the Advance button to begin the test and something strange happened. The coil for the left slingshot began firing, about twice a second continuously. I was unable to back out of it so had to turn the game off to make it stop. I have no idea where to begin looking for the solution to this. Any ideas? It should be said that I am a novice at pinball repair...

When you go into test mode, the playfield becomes active so you can test bumpers, flippers, etc, so it might be that your left sling switch is gapped too closely or something?
