If anyone wants to join this Whirlwind club I am going to be selling mine soon.
PM for details..
Aright haven’t played my whirlwind in a while and just recently when I turned it on the display is completely out. What would cause this? I don’t think the display is bad, I checked all the connectors and nothing was loose. Weird
Alright F1 3/8 amp fuse was blown. Replaced it and it blew again. What could be causing this to blow? Thanks!
Quoted from Jr99svt:
Displays out? does the game power up and play, just no displays? thats fuse is part of the HV circuit for displays, if you are talking about the P-supply board.
Edit* just saw your original post, you more that likely have a bad component on the power supply, in the HV section. dont overfuse it, you will make it worse. you either need to rebuild( or have rebuilt) the HV section, or install Aftermarket P-supply, or Aftermarket displays.
Thanks yeah, I’ll do some research on how to rebuild it.
Yeah as soon as you turn it on they both lock on.. I see what two transistors control these coil just think it’s strange they would both go at the same time.
Quoted from northerndude:
Pull out your Aux power board and check your transistors and diodes on-board. If you don’t know how to test (I didn’t) just YouTube “testing a transistor” and it’ll spell it out for you. I found the bad transistor instantly.
Switch out the power aux and put a new one in and now it’s working great. Now I’ve just got to figure out which transistor is responsible for those coils.
Alright so I am working on a project Whirlwind and I've got two coils stuck on. Left up kicker and multi-ball diverter. I checked the schematics that says Q15 and Q7. So far I have replaced both coils and replaced those two transistors on driveboard but I am still have the problem. Now I wondering if it's something on the Aux board thats bad. Any thoughts?
Alright replaced all of these on the Aux board which fixed the kick out coil, but the ball divertor coil is still stuck on.. Must be something on the driverboard, but I did already replace the transistor for it.. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Quoted from Pinball_Gizzard:
Ok first question, any ideas on this Failure message? Left display is garbled, right says Failure. I replaced batteries with fresh ones so it isn’t dead batteries. Where to start?
Bad battery holder, you will need to replace it with a battery pack.
Update- After checking Q15 on my driverboard it appears to be testing as a good transistor. I didn't have a tip122 so I use a tip121 to replace Q15 last week. I am still having issues with diverter coil still staying on. I changed the coil with a new one too. I swap in a brand new rotten dog Aux power board so I don't believe my issue is there anymore.. Any thoughts? Could it be that predriver transistor to Q15, if so what size are those?
