Just joined not too long ago! Love the machine.

Haven't taken the time to search through the thread for this, but does anyone know if you can modify a Rottendog board to sound right with this machine? As I understand it, the sound portion of the 11b MPU was modified in factory for whirlwind, making it different than all the rest of the 11b boards? The sounds through the Rottendog are full of static and mixed really weirdly.

Happy to finally be part of the club!

I guess the secret is out on this game...
welcome!

I didn't think there was a secret that this is arguably the best System 11 ever made. They've always been expensive for a pin of that era (since I've been buying machines anyway).

If anyone has a used but descent shape speaker panel for this (the plastic) I could use it. At some point in its life it looks like it took some hot solder hits or something.

Just did LED's in my flashers and now the flippers activate the flashers briefly when flipped. Is this causes by a temporary short somewhere, or...

Quoted from Pugsley:

Mine does the same thing. Its a dim flash every time you flip? I am guessing it's being caused by eddy currents. Normal bulbs will do nothing but LEDs are so efficient that it causes them to light up. I could be completely wrong, but that's my guess.

There is a fix, a couple posts up. Includes removing a few diodes from the aux power board and adding some to a few coils under the playfiled.

Man, I love Whirlwind. Such a brutal but yet fulfilling pinball experience. A fine system 11, and has a little more complexity than people give it credit for. Getting multiball primed and stacking quick multiball on that does have its benefits, and not entirely easy to do...let alone hit the jackpot shot in the chaos.

Of course I failed miserably when I did that tonight, but at least I fell back on Cellar Multiball to get a few million...

Glad I only paid 1900 for mine with an unopened set of plastics! Fair deal for sure, one of the best non diamond plate original playfields I've seen.

does anyone have any extra plastics?.......a few of mine are off color repro's or broken.....let me know what you have please.

Probably quicker if you post what you need...

Sure, why not, I'm in.

Quoted from zerbam:

Anyone with any answers on the rubber pieces required for whirwind......since the owners manual and the Williams parts manual are different?

In my experience neither of them will be right. A kit is a good start, but I guarantee you'll need more. Buy extras, they're not that expensive.

Quoted from Dewey68:

How hard is everyone's ramp shot from the upper flipper? Mine takes an almost perfect shot to make it. Everything was rebuilt when I restored the pin. Just wondering if this is typical.

Mine is a tough shot too, takes a well timed flip to get it up and all the way around. Should be a tough shot for what you get rewarded with by hitting it.

Quoted from swenny:

Mine goes up the ramp 95% of the time if I pull the plunger back all the way. Might not supposed to be that way, but makes playing the game a lot more fun.

Is it more fun, or just easier?
