Quoted from Cathaldub:

Whirlwinds got mirrors
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Looks awesome!
I put mirror blades in all my pins because I think they add so much depth and "flash" to the playfield. However I couldn't fit them into my WW. Did you have to modify them to get them in yours?

Quoted from Mahoyvan:

Swappin out my lights for LED, but leavin’ the flashers as incandescent. Can someone enlighten me as to what spec or part# is for the larger one on the right so I can order a bunch of backups?
[quoted image]

Thats a 906 flasher bulb

Quoted from Budman:

What modifications if any, have you all done with the pop bumper caps and the associated lighting. I’ve seen clear and also the traditional with led disks.

I don't know if you meant rings when you mentioned the traditional disks. Here's mine with Comet rings. I like them because they also shed a lot of light on the playfield below.

Quoted from yaksplat:

keep in mind that if you do use the rings, you will have to perform some surgery on one and solder a couple contacts to make all of the lights work.[quoted image]

It depends on where you make the cut. I didn't have to do the soldering "surgery" on mine.

Quoted from Bospins:

Hey guys
My spinner isn’t working.
Looks like there’s a wire missing at the top solder lug to me.
Is that right? Anyone know which wire should land there?
Nothing flapping around in this area.
[quoted image]

Look for a green wire with a blue stripe. If one's not hanging loose nearby, just run a jumper wire to one of the other switches that uses that wire (like one of the switches on either side of the right ramp).

Quoted from Cudaman:

Has anyone successfully removed the mylar from a Whirlwind playfield with no damage? Mine is coming up in spots and I have a few raised inserts I need to fix. I would use the freeze spray method with flour and rubbing alcohol for removing the glue. That is unless others have a better way.
As an fyi, i successfully removed mylar from a Bride of Pinbot with the above method, but used dry ice. So figured it would be the same as that one.

I did it with a can of freeze spray and a lot of time removing the residual glue. Turned out great though. No issues

Quoted from RobDutch:

Anyone got advice on how to fix this? Insert was raised and previous owner made cuts in the mylar around the arrow. While cleaning the playfield it came loose.
[quoted image]

Mine was in a similar condition when I got it. I removed all the mylar and placed new decals over the inserts. I could have gone the clear-coat route afterwards, but I just put a playfield protector on the whole game instead. Came out pretty nice I think

Quoted from Dee-Bow:

Did you use anything to help lift the mylar without damaging the playfield art? Or did it come up relatively easy? My mylar is bubbled in areas too

I used the freeze spray method to remove the mylar. Then the flour/alcohol method to remove the glue (which took 99% of the time).

I didn't loose any artwork on mine.

Quoted from Dee-Bow:

Beauty man! Looks good! I'm tempted to bite the bullet & attemp it! I also am going to add spotlights..do u just have the 4 on there or any near the jets?! I've already swapped to LED's, ordered 555 sockets & flashers/bulbs for the topper (as shown on here) & have the LED rings & artblades ordered. Love this game!

I just have the 4 spots you see. The LED rings on the pops take care of the light on those parts of the playfield. I added a lot of comet matrix strips and other lighting effects though. It's pretty easy to get carried away with lighting on this pin. The bright colors and lightning effect are easy to show off with added lighting.

Quoted from Conrad:

I got a response from pinsound stating it would be available very soon for all system 11 games including whirlwind within weeks as they are finalizing tests.

Wow, that would be very cool.

I have put Pinsound systems into several games (WH20, Black Rose, Getaway, T2) and have made several complete new sound packages for all of them (some I've made available on the Pinsound site).

Changing a sound package on a machine makes it feel like a WHOLE NEW GAME. I can't wait to put a Pinsound board - and shaker - on WW!

Quoted from TomDK:

Did you do Whirlwind in Stereo ?
This might also very cool for the "Whirlwind ReWrite Project".
We have stereosound in the machines but no usable files. The mono files sounds as bad in normal WhiWi as in the ReWrite machines .....

I didn't know that Pinsound was ever going to be comparable with System 11 machines, so I haven't even thought about any stereo of alternate music files.
