Two questions about Whirlwind.

1) When making a nice solid right loop shot... is the ball supposed to feed into the pop bumpers and get bumped around? Or is the ball supposed to go through the pop bumpers cleanly and end up down by the flippers?

2) When the upper right flipper flips, does the one-way door at the top of your shooter lane flap open quickly? Mine does this and I suspect it might be from the magnetism of the upper right flipper coil firing.

Quoted from dsuperbee:

I don't think coils produce that big of a magnetic field. If they did, ball trajectory would be effected.

Hmmm... maybe it's the vibration of the flipper going. Can someone check their game and tell me if yours does the same?

I'm also thinking it is supposed to feed into the pops. Mine is often going STDM when making the right orbit. I'll look at it tomorrow and see what can be done.

Quoted from Frankenator:

Squishing the star post over in addition to razoring off a little rubber now it feeds the pops I am pretty sure that's how the orbit is supposed to return the ball.

I've done the same. I just recently finished shopping mine out and I think the newer fatter rubber was causing the ball to get deflected there a bit. Plays much better now.

Not sure what you guys are talking about and adjusting for -- can someone draw a diagram?

When you make a nice solid right orbit shot it is believed that it should feed into the pop bumpers and get knocked around. It should not go through the pop bumpers untouched. We had to tweak our games to get it to correctly feed into the pop bumpers. If it doesn't hit any pops then it is in danger of going straight down the middle.

Being from Chicago, I am thinking of removing the little W sticker on the translight that covers the Cubs baseball hat. Has anyone removed theirs? Does it remove easily?

Is anyone going to MGC? If so, check out my Whirlwind with a PIG 2 controlled shaker motor in it. It really integrates well with the game play and thunder sound effects. It will be next to the DK Pinball booth.

Hoping someone can help me.

None of the flashers are working on my friend's Whirlwind. All the coils are working great. The A/C relay is clicking.

In test mode, I get this message:

SELECTED C-SIDE
08 Err

I found this post which seems similar to my issue, and I changed the U1 on the interconnect board (4N25) but no luck. Same issue.

What else can I check?

Thanks,
Chad

I have also reflowed solder around the A/C relay and associated connectors. Fuses are all good.

Flashers are still not working. Hoping someone might have advice from here.

Quoted from harig:

check the presence of VDC on the orange wire on a flasher socket

Voltage was present.

The good news it that I swapped in a different Aux. Power Driver Board and everything is working great now!

I suspect that the Relay is bad on the old board. It is clicking, but maybe it's just not making nice contact.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement Relay?

Thanks,
Chad

Just wanted to follow up with final resolution. It turned out the Relay on the Aux. Power Driver Board was the culprit. Even though it was making a nice clicking sound, it still would not work with the flashers. After replacing it with Marco RELAY - 24V CUBE STYLE #5580-09555-01 all is good!
