Quoted from RGAires:Hello to all,
Ive recently buy a Whirlwind, i have no light on the top of the playfield, almost no flashers and no lights on the backbox..
Ive found this burned connector J7 (GI power to the insert)
Can this be the problem of all this issues!? From what ive seen on the manual this connector also have a connection to the relay board..
If someone can just unplug the connector to see it, let me know..
Thanks
yup
Quoted from Jr99svt:Hi guys, 1st post here, im currently restoring my 2nd WW, PR playfeild, new plastics, posts, Ramps, ect, has anyone reproduced the wire ramp? mine is kinda rusty at the top. If not, any tips to make it shiney like new?
[quoted image]
just take it to your local powdercoater and have it powdercoated. prob won't cost $25 to $40
please tell us
Quoted from TheOnlyest:Great work! I love to see guys doing things the right way... Now we just need to get you the proper rivets and press!
Quoted from northerndude:Sooooo, OMG I just made my own ramp flap from scratch!! Pretty excited. After not being able to find/source the correct flap, there is shitloads on Marco, but you’d never know the distance between holes and etc. So I bought two sheets of ramp flap steel. The tough part was I checked and the thinner steel it said was for late 70’s/80’s stern etc. And the thicker for newer, so I bought the thicker and it was thicker than he original on the flap, so we’ll see how that goes. It was a little scary as you can see the original hole on the right side of the lexan piece is very close to the edge, wiuld have been nice if 1/8 closer to middle
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
how do you replace rivets? what kind of press?
yeah removing mylar from a system 11 is not a job for a novice at all. they used 2x the glue they need too. I removed mine 2 yrs ago, still complaining about what a pita is was!
Quoted from scampcamp:I've never seen this happen.
After about 3 minutes the fan & spinners stop or I think it would have stayed there quite a long time.
raise your spinners a tad!
Quoted from orangegsx:Looks like they need to be lowered to me
yeah, what he said! lol
Quoted from yaksplat:I don't think it'll be that noticable, but radcals match the dull paint color, not the original like you'll see under the legs.[quoted image]
getting ready to order these, did you get yours started yet? like to see how they look, and what prep is needed.
Quoted from misterman:Hello new Whirlwind owner and new to the forum in general. Looking forward to reading through everything here soon. 1st project, new power cord end starts tomorrow. Ground was pulled out. There will definitely be some lighting changes needing made soon and a multiball issue to troubleshoot soon.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
please, that backglass has gave me retina damage!
Quoted from BenB:Can anybody point me in the right direction as far as finding a replacement spinner for my WW. Mine is currently beat to crap and would like a new one. I ordered new orange foil so I’m good on the decal part.
Quoted from orangegsx:On the sheet is new old stock decals I purchased from the original supplier. He said it was material they patented called sun grip. Its actually kind of soft like leather and pretty bumpy. Grips the ball well.
[quoted image]
so where did you get these?
Quoted from zacaj:Just picked up a really bad project whirlwind, made a thread for it if anyone wants to follow along: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/whirlwind-back-from-the-depths-
Does anyone have a source for new ramp flaps? my ramps don't look too bad but the flaps are rusty.
Anyone know what's up with this right spinner? [quoted image]
Also, long shot, but does anyone have a spare side ramp habitrail sitting around? Would rather not go to the expense of having this one rechromed. Or has anyone powdercoated theirs and have some pics of how it looks in another color?
sos pad and some elbow grease will make it look like new.
Quoted from yaksplat:Could you take a direct overhead picture of each disk for me for color and design? You're the only one that I've ever seen have NOS decals.
I just bought some hope these help?

Here is a before picture [quoted image]
Thank ya sir!!!
Quoted from tomm1963:Coil Strength... I have a toasted upper flipper coil. As I prepare to replace I have a question on the correct coil in that spot. The manual says both upper and lower right side flipper coils are FL-11630. What is there currently is FL-11753. This upper flipper is a bit weak, not sure if it is due to the slow death it has been suffering or underpowered coil. Suggestions? I don't want to overpower and smash a ramp. But underpowered has taken the entire upper ramp shot out of the game. FYI all other adjustments on the flipper assembly are correct. EOS, clean and tight switches, etc. This is definitely a coil issue.
Thanks, in advance.
yup toss it, underpowered. 11630's is designed for the game.
Quoted from vbobrusev:[quoted image]
Have original used set from my whirlwind. 100$ for everything include shipping. Dm who interested
just bought brand new for $140!
Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:I see prices on Whirlwind trending up... how much were the BOP 2.0 kits when they were made?
2k
Quoted from yaksplat:Page 94 in the manual.
[quoted image]
thanks, got the manual on order
put the rotten dog mpu in and get a lot of speaker hum during attract mode, crazy loud. gonna try the plastic washers, anything else anyone can suggest?
Quoted from scampcamp:OK, thanks guys. I was watching a 3 part series on a guy going through a Whirlwind & it looked like he was doing it as part of routine maintenance.
overkill
Quoted from oropuro:Getting a huge power loss, flippers barely flip, kickbacks very weak, this is a re-import could that be part, or bad fusing, or something going bad? Any help is appreciated.
check voltages to coils? prob a blown fuse on board. all mine were weak only getting half voltage, changed fuse.
need a pic of the plug and wiring going into the single drop target opto board. mines all hacked up gotta straighten out this wiring mess.
Quoted from Blackbeard:How do they sell a pf with a missing insert? What am i missing here??
a insert!
Quoted from IdahoRealtor:Appreciate the heads up, but it can't be worse than mine. Repro, NOS,or used unbroken I'm happy.
one on there for $23 its a repo thats about all your gonna find unless you buy a new set. piece is always broken so get a protector.
Quoted from scampcamp:Is there a way to pull out the playfield towards the front so I can get to the rear to take out ramps etc?
just tilt it back into the upright position and lift it straight up, then you can sit playfield back down on the metal pegs and pull it forward enough to work on upper playfield
stripped mine down for shop job, forgot which side the metal slide that goes under upper lift ramp goes on, and is the flat side of the the pin that raises and lowers ramp go up or down?
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:stripped mine down for shop job, forgot which side the metal slide that goes under upper lift ramp goes on, and is the flat side of the the pin that raises and lowers ramp go up or down?
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:[quoted image][quoted image]
is this the way the post goes thru the guide though? nut on one side, flange base on the other side of the guide?
Quoted from Sciddleybop1980:Got the mypinballs dmd conversion installed this weekend. It’s so strange seeing Whirly with a dmd after all these years. Cool though. Now to learn the rules!!
[quoted image]
post a video
Quoted from EStroh:Mine was in a similar condition when I got it. I removed all the mylar and placed new decals over the inserts. I could have gone the clear-coat route afterwards, but I just put a playfield protector on the whole game instead. Came out pretty nice I think
[quoted image][quoted image]
just bought the pop bumper lights for mine a few weeks ago, i was wondering how they were going to look. Looks killer.
Quoted from RobDutch:The other Whirlwind I'm working on is missing the metal piece that prevents the lift ramp from bouncing to high. What are my options besides replacing the whole assembly?
Photo taken before teardown and cleaning.
[quoted image]
buy a new lift ramp from starship fantasy
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:what size connector plugs into the single drop target board? can't seem to find one that small
anyone?
Quoted from DuffysArcade:I've removed mylar successfully on Banzai Run using freeze spray with perfect results..wondering how similar this will come off
system 11's are the worst for mylar removal, but it can be done. ive did a few but glue on these is a bitch like no other.
anybody got a pic of where the green wire goes to what pin on the single drop target board underneath the playfield, mine popped out.
Quoted from zerbam:still looking for item (2-slot coin door bezel #27-1021) #7 (i found the other parts)[quoted image]
where did you find #6 ?
Quoted from mmr61184:Anybody know where to get this without buying a whole new set of plastics. Classic arcades on eBay has one but if I remember right he is a thief or sells inferior stuff [quoted image]
he aint a thief at all, but color might be a bit darker than original
Quoted from AssaultSuit:Where did you get the new topper from? Mine isn’t as yellow as the one on the left but certainly not as white as the one on the right.
white spray paint works well on these.
Quoted from sullivcd40:What would you do about this cabinet section? My thought is to sand that area and spray paint with Behr Mayan blue. There is no fade to match.
[quoted image][quoted image]
leave it alone. no paint will be a perfect match, most of that is hidden by the legs anyways.
Quoted from sullivcd40:I’ll leave the leg wear alone but I have to do something about the f word that is scratched in the right side in the first picture I posted. It’s a really small section but I have to do something with it. Has anyone used the rust oleum deep blue? I can spray a pool of it on a piece of cardboard and use a q tip for the touch up. I have space to test it on so if it’s not great I can have sherwin try to match more closely.
i cannot make out the "F" word in that at all. doubt anybody else will either.
Quoted from punkin:I can see it. Probably worse in person. It would annoy the fuck out of me, that's for sure.
i think it adds nostalgia.
Quoted from punkin:If you miss having morons around, then maybe.
you didn't have to invite the guys that did it over for supper.
Quoted from scampcamp:I ordered a Whirlwind playfield from Mirco about a month & he said it was made 3 weeks prior. Do you think the clear coat has cured enough to start putting stuff on top & not worry about pooling etc? Thanks
with mirco, i don't think 5 yrs is long enough. id use washers under everything you can. and try to only snug up all posts, nothing real tight on top.
Quoted from John_In_WI:Makes you want to get one for yourself, doesn't it?
couldn't give me one for free, honestly.
Quoted from SilverUnicorn:Can anyone confirm my ribbon cables are connected in the correct spots? I think they are but want to verify everything before sending stuff for service.
Chris[quoted image][quoted image]
Quoted from Gorgar666:Has anyone removed bubbling Mylar from their WW? Wondering if the artwork will pull up.
system elevens are the worst to remove mylar from, make sure you have 2-3 cans at minimum of compressed air. freeze it and keep freezing it as you slowly pull back mylar, inserts are where you will do the most damage so super slow and lots of air there as you are ever slowly spraying and peeling at a snails pace. then prepare for hrs of work removing all the glue they used. get a plastic razorblade for this and whatever cleaning agent you decide to use
Quoted from Gorgar666:Where to source the 3 disc outer ring decal…
i bought one at pinball center but you have to have a mailbox set up over there to get parts.
