Just joined the club this weekend.

Does anyone have a repro playfield they have sitting around and might want to let go?

My pf is in pretty good shape but am thinking a pf swap would be a good winter quarantine project...but would love to save a few $$ to motivate me to do it. (This would be my first one)

If not, a light refurb and lots of playing are the plan

pm me!

Quoted from northerndude:

RESEARCH the playfield you'd swap with. Many a horror story of holes and etc. not being lined up. You will have to work for this. Check some resto threads.

I read them. Definitely would be a labor of love A good winter project for me and my dad and/or kids.

But i did just get a good look at my playfield. It's really in good shape. I have a few inserts to reseat and some mylar to replace. so that's probably what i'll end up doing as I have this machine, a big guns, and cleaning / waxing of the rest of the fleet on the schedule for the winter.

Quoted from mbaumle:

Second this. I sent out my original playfield to captain Neo for a full restore before I swapped it. 3/4 through the restoration process, both CPR and Mirco announced their repros, and I kinda felt silly for going through the extra trouble to restore the original.
Fast forward to Mirco playfields having missing insert decal artwork and CPR having that weird line in the stippling effect, and I’m really glad I went through with the original playfield.

Ok...but what do you hang on the wall after you’re done??

Quoted from Jmckune:

So mine are actually two different playfields. I still have the crap one to hang if desired. The other one came with the game when I got it and the person who had it before me had it clear coated. There are a few signs of wear but not really. Cellar holes looked good, colors are great. Only signs of wear are very hard to see but it looked 100x better than the original in there. Both of them are Williams playfields though.

maybe the right tactic is to get a beat but salvageable playfield, have it restored and clearcoated, then do the swap?

hi all -
looking to change out my flashers with LEDs. Does anyone know if there are plug and play LEDs for this, or what mods are required?

On my pinbot, I had to lift some grounds on driver boards - was easy to do and easily reversible. Is there something similar to do here?

I did some searching but didn't find anything.

Quoted from Initiative:

LED flash lamps themselves are plug and play. However, on system 11 games, you'll get some serious ghosting on 4 of the flashers. you'll need to cut some diodes from the driver board in the backbox, then solder some new ones on 4 coils under the playfield in order to get rid of these artifacts. the procedure can be found here:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/adding-led-flashers-to-system-11-games
I've done this on 4 of my system 11 games and can tell you it works.
good luck.

Looks straightforward. Thanks!

...looks like both whirlwind & big guns are going to get some love here.

Has anyone else had trouble painting their topper? I cleaned mine off and sprayed some gloss white on it. It got the weird cracked look in a few areas. Any idea what to do about it? Sand it down and use a different primer?[quoted image]

I've had similar effects when the paint dried in super cold or super hot conditions...maybe that was the cause?

Gents
I need three plastics, anyone have new ones or intact used ones they’d sell me? Please PM if so and happy new year!

- left sling
- upper left small plastic by red pops
- long thin one to the left of the skyway ramp

Hey guys
I got a new set of plastics. For the ones that re riveted, Do you know which rivets and rivet tool I need to connect the replacements? I’ve used small 4/40 screws and nuts in the past but I prefer the look of the rivets. There are lots of rivet options on Marco.

Thanks!
Rich

Hey guys
My spinner isn’t working.

Looks like there’s a wire missing at the top solder lug to me.

Is that right? Anyone know which wire should land there?

Nothing flapping around in this area.

Jumping over the yellow wire fixed it. Thanks gentlemen!

Quoted from slizzap:

Hey guys,
Anyone having abnormal "bounce" issues with the targets beside the right ramp? Both targets bounce pretty good, but my yellow NW target on the left side of the right ramp really causes the ball to bounce pretty good when hit straight on at full speed. Quite often it bounces over and lands in between the low pressure jet bumpers, once or twice it's landed inside the ramp above those bumpers, and probably a half dozen times just in the past week it's knocked the plastic light cover off the top of both cellar signs. It's happening with such frequency that I figure this must not be normal. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for how I can tweak these targets to reduce the bounciness.
I'm recently a new Whirlwind owner, received about 3 weeks ago, and this is my first pinball machine. I've already done a few repairs on my own (million ramp replacement, new opto boards, and some new lights) thanks to some really helpful information found on this site. That is to say I'm knowledgeable enough and willing to dig in where needed.
TIA!

100% happens to me too.
