I am getting ready to restore mine. Am thinking I am going to do chrome trim except for the coin door. I am also toying with the idea of putting WPC side rails on this game. Think it would look alot better that way. I hear that some funhouses came with system 11 side rails and some with WPC.

the plastics still have the protective coating on them.

This is the best I have been able to do so far.

The super sellar multi-ball is where its at. If you can get that everything is at max points!

#166 10 years ago

I like my games set to factory as that is the way it was meant to be.

That left ramp is a bitch to hit consistently. I can get in a groove and hit it several times in a game and then go several games without ever hitting it.

I need one of those for my full restore. Sweet!

Has anyone used the whirlwind spinner decals from pdi? I am just asking because something was going around pinside about decals that were too small? Just want to make sure I get the good version.

#1258 7 years ago

My Whirlwind has the long hex post with the rubber on it.

Anyone parting out a whirlwind or happen to have the metal rail that sits just above the lower pops and runs along and up to the upper side ramp? Someone took mine out and replaced it with a hacked up way taller and beaten version of it because the ramp is busted up. I have a weird feeling I'm going to have a hard time finding it.

Are these new plastics for whirlwind made using the original films? I got a set from classic pinball and they don't all match exactly.

The first run of plastics that CPR ran were not completely true to the game. Some were off badly. Wrong fonts and colors. I got mine in a package with Playfield on the last run. I'd like to think they were smart enough to rerun with the original films this time.

Can anyone who has replaced the spinner decals tell me where they got them and and how they like them? I’ve heard that someone is selling decals that are too small and the psi ones look rubbery and shiny. Would prefer the closesest to original.

#1885 6 years ago

Is anyone parting out a whirlwind or know someone who might be? I’m looking for the ball guide that is directly above the low pressure pops that leads to the side ramp. Whoever had mine made a dreadful and beat up replacement that is way tall and covers part of the broken ramp entrance.

#1892 6 years ago

Thanks Nerdygrrl! I really think the ones you have are more true to the originals. The pdi decals just look rubbery and shiny.

I may have a first run glass from cpr I’d be willing to part with. I found a nos translate and decided to go that direction.

Drilling the hole is a piece of cake. Its happened on a few Funhouse repro plastics I bought awile back. I'd be more concerned that the plastics themselves aren't all true to the game if they were printed by CPR. Some of the fonts, art and color are not the same as original on the repro Whirlwind sets.

Sometimes if you move a pin and don’t set it down square it can actually twist slightly causing clearance problems for the playfield. I had it happen once. Sometimes if you pick the front of the game up and set it down slowly and evenly it will correct itself. Or it could be any of the things mentioned above.

There were some spinner decals that were nice but they were not exactly right. Wrong designs and colors. Hopefully those aren’t them.
