Quoted from swenny:Quick Q for other WW owners. Does the ball come out of the cellar on your game at a consistent speed? Mine seems to be all over the place. Sometimes when it ejects it comes flying straight down towards the flipper. Other times it kind of dribbles out, hits the top of the triangular bumper below it and then takes a funny angle to the drain hole. It's definitely not consistent.
Is the game supposed to be that way, or is the solenoid weak and in need of repair? I've never played another WW before to know if they're all that way or not.
Thanks,
Swenny
I've had the same issue. I've read it's somewhat common.
I've often though ww is better than fh. I also think the same about taxi being better too. Just couldn't get into fh.
Guys, about to shop ww
Two things:
1. I’ve read (and had experience) with these posts snapping due to lock tite. Are all posts easily available if they do snap?
2. How does one heat up a post in order to loosen lock tite? Soldier iron touching the center of tnut under pf that post is screwed into?
You prob have it set to get free balls often.
Chance settings to
Credits when you do well. Not free balls. Also increase score needed to get free balls.
My hunch is you’re getting a lot of gimmes. Also, set to 3 ball games. Not 5.
In shopping the game, which ramp are you guys removing first?
3 toll ramp (millions ramp) or the right ramp (lock ramp)?
And you pull the connectors for
The ramps right up thru pf? Just worried about weaving them back down thru layers of plastics upon reinstallation of Ramps.
I thought it may be easier to just remove the switches from the ramps themselves instead.
Quoted from zacaj:Hair drier did the job most of the time, but got scared I was going to damage other stuff on the pf. Soldering iron took about 2 min per post but worked reliably
No breaks? I remember just the sling posts snapping.
Quoted from zacaj:Broke one in the lower pops when I got to eager thinking it had come free. Another on the one way gate coming out of the lock when I assumed it wouldn't be lock tited. Just normal machine screws though, so not too bad to tap the T nut out from the top and replace. Sling posts didn't seem to be locktited
So you think hair dryer or soldering
Iron?
I recall some of
These posts were hard to
Find.
Quoted from WonderMellon:Sorry to bump my own post, but I am at a loss here. Anyone run into this before or have any ideas on what to try next?
Really just sound like something is jarring loose. From moving the pin, to
You wiggling the motor board. Is there a connector running to that board? If so make sure on of the wires isn’t loose from the female molex connector. They always look like they’re pushed into the housing well but a lot of times one isnt pushed in enough
This seems like it’s gotta be something simple.
Double check the setting that turns on/off the disks too. Who knows if something got reset.
Looks awesome Yak.
I owned a ww years back and sold it. I've since repurchased one on a whim.
Really don't think I fully appreciated it the first time I owned it. Never even realized the tolls and cellar visits accumulated ball to ball. Also that ball locks trigger the bonus multiplier.
Debating asking Tdiddy to do some touchup and clear on it.
Quoted from Flynnyfalcon:Cool, any chance you can add a ball save? My WW is bloody brutal, and mates often don't enjoy the super fast game time. I'm yet to tinker with outlanes, but may have to consider it. A 5-10sec would be a great feature.
I feel like there already is one. Draining on your ball after plunge without hitting a switch will give ball back.
Plus, how many free balls does this pin give !
Quoted from dung:Kinda back in the club. Picked this up. Been debating hanging it on the wall for a someday build or letting it go. Actually have a brand new bare bk2k cab that would work and picked up a really rough bally atlantis that I was going to steal what I could off for the lower cab, but that turned out to be nice enough to save.[quoted image][quoted image]
I think there should be a vote as to whether you're allowed back in.
Quoted from not4tilts:I picked up a Whirlwind about a month ago from a guy that said he had it for 20 years. He said his family had grown up with it and loved it all those years. He said it originally came from an old guy that routed pins. The pin was extremely dirty, dried out (cracked) rubbers and probably the original balls (luckily no battery damage). He admitted that he didn't know the first thing about working on pins and was super happy that "it has always worked". Although, the display was out and I couldn't see it "work" when I bought it. After getting it home, I tore it all apart and did new ramps, rubbers, plastics, LEDs, rebuild flippers, etc. It cleaned up really nice and I am very happy with how it looks and plays now.
The one problem I found that I am still in amazement at was the lift ramp was reporting an error. There was always three clicks of the ramp (one of the solenoids firing three times and then stopping). My first thought was a weak solenoid or perhaps it was mechanically stuck. The ramp worked absolutely fine in solenoid test though. Then I am thinking it has to be the switch but it was making and breaking fine as well and looked solid mechanically. I checked the diode(s), etc. Really a stumper. Then in doing the switch level test I realized that the ramp was reporting down when it was up and vise versa. So I looked really closely at the switch and compared it to the picture of the assembly in the manual and realized that the switch was the wrong type and the actuator was making and breaking opposite of what it should be. The switch looked like it had been there from day one and in no way was bent or formed wrong (just not the right actuator). I am pretty darn sure that the owner never worked on this pin. I can't believe that this family played the game for 20 years and never realized that there was a problem. Part of me would love to call the seller back and ask him about it (won't do that though).
I have not played Whirlwind a lot in the past and am really enjoying it now. Pure FUN!!
Pic of the old switch:[quoted image]
I just had this same issue. It was annoying bc it wouldn't happen all the time. But when it happened, it would click a few times. The clicking was the little solenoid relay coil.
I corrected it by fiddling/bending the little actuator arm on the lift ramp switch. Problem went away.
I can't remember whether I had to bend it up or down, but that's where the issue is.
Quoted from Jimmyhonda:Thank you! 250k!!?? That’s a joke!! Lol.
Agreed.
Making that combo should be automatic jackpot!!
Quoted from Jmckune:Is it normal for whirlwind to go through the adjustments menu backwards?
I THINK if you hit the middle button, the adjustments will scroll up.
Quoted from yaksplat:wire cutters.
Can’t you just turn it off in settings? Why cut wire??
Quoted from Magno:Just finished this game, everything was dropping 100+ tolls, 2 mega doors, and a bunch of jackpots. Loving this game the more I play it. 29th spot, I’ll keep creeping up the ranks
[quoted image]
Dude that’s an insane score. 3 ball??
I think my high is like 36,000,000
Quoted from Magno:Yes 3 ball, normal settings. I lost count on extra balls. Are the high scores based only on 3 balls and no extra balls? Like in PAPA tournament play? If so I will take extra balls off. How do you guys play?
I think extra balls are included, so you're good.
