what size connector plugs into the single drop target board? can't seem to find one that small
So this is kind of a hack but it works. I got my whirlwind in multiple boxes, bins, and buckets with a playfield in the process of a swap. Unfortunately an important part was lost at some point by the seller. The under ramp redirection for the eject was missing. It was also a one off part so it is not available anywhere. I tried multiple ways to get a regular eject to work to no avail. I finally found something that did the trick. I am using the half height eject. Bent it backwards slightly so it stands a little more upright. Up until that point I was only ever able to reliable backhand from the right flipper in. All shots from the left flipper were rejected unless it hit something else first and slowed significantly. I went ahead and ordered the blue rubber that would normally go on the proper eject deflector and put it on sideways, offset to the right to account for the angle of the eject deflector. The results? 9 out of 10 shots from the left flipper went in and all 3 attempts from the right flipper went in. Don’t know if this will hold up or not but as of right now, it seems to dramatically increase the success rate.

Yes. confirmed it.
Hi guys. I am looking to buy a Whirlwind apron. I know probably a long shot. Does anyone have an extra? Thanks!
Has anyone put a pinsound with shaker motor into your whirlwind? I am considering doing a whole sound package with shaker or just upgrading to a shaker motor from pinshakers. Not sure if its worth it with the whole sound package.
Nevermind, I see pinsound doesn't even have a compatibility for our Whirlwind which surprised me. So pinshaker it is for the win!
I got a response from pinsound stating it would be available very soon for all system 11 games including whirlwind within weeks as they are finalizing tests.
Quoted from Mahoyvan:Hey guys, does it affect the game at all if the triac board is disconnected?
It shouldn’t. You would just lose power to the fan.

Wow, that would be very cool.
I have put Pinsound systems into several games (WH20, Black Rose, Getaway, T2) and have made several complete new sound packages for all of them (some I've made available on the Pinsound site).
Changing a sound package on a machine makes it feel like a WHOLE NEW GAME. I can't wait to put a Pinsound board - and shaker - on WW!

Did you do Whirlwind in Stereo ?
This might also very cool for the "Whirlwind ReWrite Project".
We have stereosound in the machines but no usable files. The mono files sounds as bad in normal WhiWi as in the ReWrite machines .....

I didn't know that Pinsound was ever going to be comparable with System 11 machines, so I haven't even thought about any stereo of alternate music files.
Quoted from RobDutch:The other Whirlwind I'm working on is missing the metal piece that prevents the lift ramp from bouncing to high. What are my options besides replacing the whole assembly?

I thought that would be amazing as well. So I'm going to wait now for them to release that. The other thing is I heard a rumor that some system 11 games will get a remake package like the funhouse one. Not sure if it will be true but that would be cool.
I’m having a problem when playing with multiple players. It’s been putting 2 balls in the shooter lane occasionally. This never happens in single player games.

Flakey switches in the trough and or ball lock area.

anyone?
joined the club recently - anyone by chance have a spare set of cellar Cliffy protectors they want to sell? Thank you.

Molex KK series housing part number 22-01-2051 (2.54mm / 0.100" pitch) with 08-52-0123 crimp pins will work; get them from Great Plains Electronics if you're in the USA. FYI, the original insulation displacement technology connector used was manufactured by Panduit.

Yea, I'm just gonna order from him. Was thinking I could save myself some time (he's pretty backed up last time I ordered a few months back) and help someone unload parts no longer needed. But I need a bunch of Cliffys anyway...all good. Thx.
Bought a replacement for the the single drop target bank board:
https://ksarcade.net/system-11-single-drop-target-opto-board-c13311.html
Can anyone confirm the original board doesn't have a diode? Schematics for the original show a diode. The other three target bank has 3 diodes.
Someone hacked a Cyclone drop board into mine so hard to verify what the replacement should have.
Anyone who can take a peek at their opto board for the single drop and let me know if there’s a diode — I can’t imagine there’s not, it’s a matrixed switch like any other. Super confused about this replacement board…

I'm assume your wondering if there is a diode for the coil, which there is not. The drop target board just has a resistor.
Hope this helps, Cheers!
WWDT.jpg.pdfI didn’t even realize the dotted line indicates the sensor housing. So if that’s the case (it’s unlike the 3 drop board with through hole diodes right on it) then I bet the incorrect Cyclone board that was in there doesn’t have a diode in its sensor. Hmm. I’ve never paid attention to or seen an opto sensor with a diode inside. Anyway throwing in the replacement today.
Quoted from TicTacSeth:Where’s the best place to get the “grippy” spinning disk decals?
Marco. I had a conversation about this with Marco about this at a show a while back. He/they used to stock the not grippy ones, but people complained, so they now only stock the proper grippy ones. I’ve bought from them recently, and I can confirm their disks are the ones you want. They have the proper dark blue color too.

Any idea when they switched?

Wondering too... I have a set sitting in my spare parts tote. I didn't install them because I read they're not grippy, and my old nasty lookin' ones still whip the ball all over!

Not really sure, but I was talking to them about it about a year and a half ago.

Do the new ones in your tote feel like they would be grippy?

Damn Tim.. i just ordered a set thru Kevin! Jamie was in your city last nite and grabbed 'em!

Who make these? I only knew the Tilt versions. I have a Whirlwind ready for resto and am possibly keen... In oz though.

Just seeing if anyone is interested in parting with the their Whirlwind in the next few months. Looking for a nice example as opposed to a major project. Shoot me a PM if this is you. Thanks!
Checking to see if anyone has any input into a problem I'm having on my Whirlwind. When a ball is in the saucer under the right skybridge up ramp, it kicks out, hits the right ball guide above the upper right flipper, and bounces back into the saucer. It can do this multiple times before luck or randomness gets it out of the saucer. Anyone have this problem or any advice on adjusting the kickout? Thanks-
Mike

What coil do you have installed? Mine never bounces off the guide

Not an issue I've run into. Here is the mech on the underside of the playfield:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/26Jd7dGypCrg2EQP8
There isn't too much adjustment in there... maybe loosen the 3 screws that holds the "eject cam assembly" and wiggle/twist it a big and snug back down. Do you have the post with a small rubber ring just to the right of the saucer?
Problem with my friends game:
Fuse F7 (4A slow blow) on the aux power driver board keeps blowing after a few balls.
Everything works during play untill the fuse blows.
No coils lock on at start up so I don't think any of the transistors are the problem.
My friend says all connectors are well in place.
The game worked fine when it was here..
Anyone got an idea on where to start searching?
Help is greatly appreciated!

Page 92, Aux Power Driver Schematic (96th page of the PDF itself), section A-4 is where you'll find S7. So maybe "BR2".
If you also look at page 96 (100th page of PDF), you will find again fuse F7 shown within the Aux Power Driver box and see that the "50Vdc Supply" has other fuses from it, F4, F5 and F6, all 2A fuses, so if those fuses are not popping, again, I'd suspect that Bridge Rectifier (BR2).
Page 44 (48th page of PDF) has the parts list for that board. This looks to be the replacement:

Now then... I'm a true expert all things electrical for certain brands of German automobiles.... I'd like to think I'm pretty decent with pinball as well... but don't blindly trust me... and if I'm way wrong, some one needs to call me out on this.
