Quoted from John_In_WI:Keep an eye on Marco. They've been offering free shipping on orders over $99 recently. Bought a CPR PF from them.
Good for you. I’m Canadian. No free shipping for us
Quoted from Magno:Just finished this game, everything was dropping 100+ tolls, 2 mega doors, and a bunch of jackpots. Loving this game the more I play it. 29th spot, I’ll keep creeping up the ranks

Wish I could do that. Mine kicks my ass

Dude that’s an insane score. 3 ball??
I think my high is like 36,000,000
Quoted from Blackbeard:Dude that’s an insane score. 3 ball??

Yes 3 ball, normal settings. I lost count on extra balls. Are the high scores based only on 3 balls and no extra balls? Like in PAPA tournament play? If so I will take extra balls off. How do you guys play?
Mine's on 5 ball and unlimited extra balls. But that's what the arcade we played it at always had it set to 5 ball. We still get our asses kicked on it all the time.

I think extra balls are included, so you're good.

For the posted scores on pinside its basically factory settings, which is 6 extra balls if I recall. I normally run factory settings. But shut off extra balls from time to time, If I need to get a game in and don’t have 45 minutes lol.
Quoted from IdahoRealtor:Does anyone have a spare of this plastic they would sell me? I see one on Epay for $40. That's too much.

The only place I have seen those is Pinball Center in Europe.I think I saw a group of people ordering from there together on Pinside.
If I have to replace the display on my Whirlwind, which company makes the best/most reliable replacement one? I haven't tested the voltage yet on the molex connectors, but I suspect the display is burnt out.
My Whirlwind is a project I bought from a guy who left it outside under a tarp for several years, then moved it to a garage with no temperature control.

Get the White Xpin ones!!
Quoted from zacaj:I have a repro one and... it doesn't look that great. Blue isn't nearly as deep as originals :/
Appreciate the heads up, but it can't be worse than mine. Repro, NOS,or used unbroken I'm happy.

Put a PinScore in mine.

Does yours play slow or are you just that good? Mine plays like lightning and I feel like it’s because it’s clear coated. Best I’ve done is around 18 million
Quoted from Jmckune:Does yours play slow or are you just that good? Mine plays like lightning and I feel like it’s because it’s clear coated. Best I’ve done is around 18 million
Oh it plays fast! And kicks your ass. I just try and slow the play down and pick shots, I like to backhand the lock from the right flipper which helps. And also I don’t try to shoot the cellar from the right flipper too much, because it ends up in the outlanes fast.
I still have the original Mylar which is lifting quite a bit around the inserts. My side ramp is broken as well, I makeshifted a piece of thin steal at the beginning of the ramp so the ball has something to hit. I have a set of cliffys coming in the next few weeks. Hopefully that will help make the side ramp easier to make, I hate plastic ramps!!
I feel your pain on that broken plastic. Ive been looking for a new one also. $40 is insane. Might have to try making my own one of these days.
Does anyone have a spare "above right outlane" plastic (features a man + tractor on it). Mine is broken, so anything that is whole will do. PM me what you've got! Thanks!
For those that bought a CPR Whirlwind mirrored backglass... what are your thoughts? Is it worth the $$?
Quoted from scampcamp:For those that bought a CPR Whirlwind mirrored backglass... what are your thoughts? Is it worth the $$?
I haven’t bought it so my opinion my not matter to you. They are still selling NOS translites for about $80 so for me no, it’s not worth it. You can have a brand new as was sent from factory or you can spend $200 and some change on a backglass with (in my opinion) marginally better results. I’m not one to spend all kinds of money unless it’s needed!

I agree..... can you please mention where the new translate is sold at? Thanks
I just played a game on this and while I still don’t have it dialed in playing exactly how I like it, this is one beautiful game. So glad I put in the work instead of getting one that was already together but had a worse playfield, this one looks so good in cool white lighting! I need to finish my led job, get a new piece of glass that isn’t scratched all up to properly show off the playfield, and get a new translite. Cliffys are en route!
Are there tricks to make the spinning disks more quiet?
I know you can change the settings
Already took them apart and cleaned them, but they are still super noisy.. (A deafening unpleasant noise that is unbearable to listen to with the glass off)
And what I also did is put a noise dampening mat inside the cab.

That's the sound of the imperfect teeth on the gears, meshing together. They weren't designed to be quiet, just to transfer the motion.

I oiled the motor itself and it helped. May or may not be your problem though

Put the glass back on?

If you or anyone else for that matter needs a new (used) translite I have one with a very slight mark on the side that I would sell someone for cheap.
Quoted from scampcamp:For those that bought a CPR Whirlwind mirrored backglass... what are your thoughts? Is it worth the $$?
I wish the mirrored effect was more visible when the game was on. I ended up putting the translite back in because my game is mint and all original and wanted Translite the same
Quoted from Flynnyfalcon:I almost bought the mirrored backglass, but pulled out after seeing it in person. Colours aren't correct and lots of detail is lost due to over saturation. I found it quite disappointing and found a NOS translight instead.
That's makes me feel better. .. ordered a nos translite last night.
Quoted from scampcamp:For those that bought a CPR Whirlwind mirrored backglass... what are your thoughts? Is it worth the $$?
Well...it is a mixed bag. A lot of sharpness is lost and some complain about over saturated colors. Bb99 is right on about the lack of mirror when it is lit. The plus side is the mirror effect is very cool without any lighting, and after you get used to the lack of sharpness/clarity the real glass does look cool when lit--it is just different. Sometimes you can get a nice second on ebay, which in my opinion is worth the money. Brand new--I'm not sure that it is.
It looked like Pinball Inc. was out of stock but when I emailed them... he replied that he had 3 NOS Whirlwind translites left (2 after I ordered 1)

Is it me or is this the next game to catch on fire with high prices. Its an Adams family to me.Glad I kept mine.
Quoted from locksmith:Is it me or is this the next game to catch on fire with high prices.
It's definitely been creeping up in value lately. I genuinely think it's a better *playing* game than Funhouse (even if Funhouse is rightfully iconic and groundbreaking). I have mine sitting next to Addams Family, and my friend always laughs and says how they're basically the same game layout, but I don't think that's a bad thing.
I remember when I sunk in the money for a restored playfield, ramps, and everything for a playfield swap, I'd always be underwater on the game, but did so anyway because it was a grail of mine. In hindsight, it doesn't look like I made such a poor financial decision with the game.
Mine will be for sale soon for less then $3k!
But pick up only...in the Netherlands
Whirlwind prices don't seem too crazy here..

Guess I was lucky then to get a project one for $1000 with for the most part working boards! Playfield is trash though. I really want to get back to working on it soon and doing the complete CPR playfield swap.
Found a bad opto on the single tornado drop target, and I have a few questions.
Firstly, will this part be a drop in replacement?
003881E2-BFF0-4492-91A5-061C1D736872 (resized).jpeg
Secondly, I know that these optos need to be installed a particular way. On the replacement ones, there’s a dot on the case (and a longer lead) indicating polarity. However, on the original board, I see no such markings, so I’m sorta at a loss as to how the replacement (if suitable) is to be installed. I’d really hate to solder it in, only to have to flip it around again. Any advice?
Thanks!

I just did this, did you read the tips here: http://techniek.flipperwinkel.nl/wms11/index3.htm
Can you tell which is the receiver and which is the emitter?
Also, based on the manual it looks like the correct otpo.
IMG_20200915_191604503 (resized).jpgUpdate: replaced the opto, figured out the polarity.
However, the target is still flakey. Solder connections look fine. Any other obvious things to look for?

I went through this same thing with mine. Initially the opto was triggering rapidly when activating. After reflowing, in test mode it appeared to be functioning correctly, however during a game it confirmed that was not that case. I found the easiest solution for $24 was to just replace the entire single drop opto board. The opto itself was already $12 so I just plugged in the new board and it’s worked golden ever since
Had a couple of alignment queries after my restoration and playfield swap.
The right orbit shot - I understand this is supposed to end up hitting the low pressure pops, not go straight through them and onto the flippers (or SDTM quite often). My question is which bumper is it supposed to hit first or should it hit the post and rubber at the end of the metal guide that it feeds around?
The kickout from the cellar - should this land straight onto the left flipper or should it hit the left slingshot?
A full plunge from the shooter lane - mine goes part way up the left ramp then rolls back down, is this where it should be or should it go around the inside orbit? I know the skill shot should hit the 3 bank drop targets, but I just wondered where a full plunge should end up?
