I will be joining your club tomorrow...
Not sure if this is been brought up yet... but I was thinking of a mod where I would put in a stronger motor for the backbox top fan. Not too strong but just enough maybe to blow your baseball cap off or something.
Has anybody done this yet?... if ..so how did you go about it? Thanks !

That damn fan already drives me nuts when I can't hit the ramp. I need nothing stronger!

Or you could enjoy the game the way it was intended. Either way, it's a great game.

I disconnect mine in the wintertime. It’s cold enough in Saskatchewan Canada, little enough running that fan also. But a must to have running in the summer

There is an option in the menu to shut it off. Little cold in the basement in the winter I turn it off too.

Does anyone keep the spinning disks on the "high" setting? I tried it, but it seems insanely fast (like it would cause wear on the mechanism) and it actually seemed to have less effect on the ball, as of they weren't grabbing as much because it was so fast.

#2556 5 years ago

Thanks for the tip orangegsx. Never thought of checking for that

Is there a good way to prepare ww for transport? Should I do anything with the topper? Thanks

As with any game, just make sure the wires don't pull tight between the back box and cabinet while folding the head down. The topper is fine.

Thank you very much.

I did notice there were a few plastics that need to be replaced. I didn’t see the ones I needed on eBay. Does anyone have these individual plastics or is it best just to buy the set from Marco? Thank you

Yeah, The playfield needs cleaning. I’ve always wanted to do a shop job on a few of my games but it seems so overwhelming.

I think I will try to take off a few parts in 1 section at a time ... clean/wax it up & see how that goes. I’m a little worried about the ramps & hard to get areas.

#2562 5 years ago

It's not as overwhelming as you think. Take a pic every time you take a screw / part out. Scrub everything up, look at pics in reverse. Go for it, can't hurt anything.

#2563 5 years ago

Worst that happens is you will be back in this thread asking where something goes.

Bingo.

You're probably doing more damage to your game in the long run if you don't strip her down and give her a good cleaning. Tracking around all that dirt and grit will accelerate wear on the playfield, ball, and rings.

I have a few questions for this one post... hope that’s OK.

I’d like to do that lightning top or mod at some point. I’ve seen several different ways of doing this & most of them are from 5-6 years ago. What is your way of doing it now? Frost led strips or regular LEDs? Which colors? Do new/different sockets need to be installed.

My topper seems to be more of a cream white yellow. The new 1 from Marco is blue?

There is some normal wear that is above the spinners. How do you guys go about fixing this? Or... do you just leave it alone & try to protect it with wax etc?

This is been gone over a zillion times... do you remove the mylar from this era of game?

What’s your favorite way to clean the playfield after you remove the parts? Orange cleaner sprayed on old soft T-shirt’s? Then a good carnuba wax?

Thank you

Mine has a lot of wear in that area, the first thing i did was to adjust the discs so that they are at the level of the play field.
I ordered a decal from pinball center, hoped that would cover it up. The decal is more pink than red, so i decided to just keep the wear.
Maybe one day i will go the whole way with Mirco play field and rad cals.

Quoted from scampcamp:

I wouldn’t. You risk paint loss and insert decal lifting.

If you want your Mylar to shine, grab a 3M headlight restore kit (the kind that fits on a drill). Skip the first sanding step, and go right to the second step and third step. Only use the kit on mylared areas though. You’ll tear right through the paint otherwise.

To clean everything else, I prefer naphtha and rags. It’s gentle and non-abrasive. Follow up with a quality carnauba wax of your choice.

Yellowed cloud toppers are common. Originally white, they yellow with age. There are threads on people restoring them. They basically tape off the decals, and spraypaint it white again.

Blue toppers are aftermarket, and they look bad, in my opinion. When was the last time you saw a blue cloud? I have no experience in the lightning mod, so I can’t help you there.

As for the wear around the spinners, yours doesn’t look too bad. I’d just wax it and forget about it. You can get a decal from pinball center, like Axl mentioned, but they don’t ship to the United States anymore.

Hope this helps!

And just biy over eBay !! No direct dealing otherwise you might never get your purchased stuff. At least in the old days Jeff was a p.i.t.a. to deal with ....

#2572 5 years ago

yeah removing mylar from a system 11 is not a job for a novice at all. they used 2x the glue they need too. I removed mine 2 yrs ago, still complaining about what a pita is was!

#2573 5 years ago

I've done 2 sys 11's now. One went great but pulled insert text and decals off only.
The second went almost flawless, its freezing and pulling technique.

I did my WPC pin and had lots of insert decal and text disappear.

I’ve pulled a BK2K Mylar with hea. It wasn’t fun at all but ultimately came off ok. I pulled a Pinbot that came off with ease with the freeze method. I did a high Speed and it took me three days to get the glue off. What a PITA. Consequently, any Mylar I’ve removed from a WPC came of simply.

#2575 5 years ago

Hey, thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it.

I think I will leave a Mylar as is since it’s not too bad. And for the topper.... When you paint...do you use a flat white spray paint?

Where do you find those colored rubber posts?

Thanks again guys!

Thank you but I’ve seen some other plastics he sold that didn’t look very good.

I may just wait and get a full set from Marco when I get close to having it all cleaned up.

Did you guys choose any colors for the posts or just kept them black?

No worries. I have bought some from him before for my T2 and I thought they were fine but I’m sure not all reproductions are the same.

I really don’t have a clue. I have no idea who the guy is I just needed those for T2 and he happened to have them. I didn’t want to buy a whole set cause I was already in the game more than I’ll get out of it lol. I think the blue on one was a little dark.

I have a cpr set for whirlwind I just am tryin to decide if I want to buy a playfield or not. Whirlwind is my favorite game of all time so I probably will

Yeah, I don't even know what version I'm running. My Whirlwind has been basically untouched since I bought it over 5 years ago. Most reliable pin I own. It could use some LEDs, I guess, because ES really outshines it.

The Mirco Whirlwind playfield arrived today.
I'll admit a rookie mistake - I got rid of the old playfield without tracing it out for a template. Ouch.

But, my playfield served as the layout model (physical, not graphics) for Mirco's production so I'm hoping everything fits perfectly when I get around to putting back together.

I'm hoping I can have it ready for TPF again this year but I'm not sure if it's going to be done in time.

Regardless, here's a look at the Mirco Whirlwind playfield

Is it dimpled?

Oh it will be, as soon as the steel ball hits the field.

But yes, it is drilled and dimpled.

I am replacing the flashers with LEDs.

Are the flashers with the red caps different than the ones that are in the rear of the playfield? Thanks
