Quoted from jhanley:

Do you mean the three tall posts that the ramp goes on in the picture?

Yup

#1952 6 years ago

The on the left of the eject hole is 75mm, the right one is 80mm... that third one? Does not exist on mine!!??

Quoted from nerdygrrl:

Do you mean the spinner disc unit?
I hit a little snag with my repopulation. Does anyone know what sized post goes where? The pics I took with a ruler are total rubbish. Each of these little round guys is just a hair smaller than the next. Any help would be much appreciated.

The one towards the back of the playfield is the longest one.Going clockwise from there is the next longest followed by the shortest .

#1955 6 years ago

Nice looking pf. What kind of protective plastic sheet do you have on there...?

#1956 6 years ago
Quoted from northerndude:

Yes, the spinner square with wireform from top left spinner (the only one)

I just wanted to check as some call the wheel assembly "spinners". The part number is B-13339, but nothing comes up for it. You can give Marco or PBR a call to see if they have any that will work in its place.

If the little plastic stops at then end fell off you could probably put back together as long as nothing got bent.

Thanks for all of the measurements guys.!

Now that you mention it, one of the threads I have been reading/referencing is the same way: http://www.enteryourinitials.com/2017/03/25/whirlwind-repair-service-log-5/

Maybe an early run versus later run thing or something.

Thank you. I was worried about how it was going to turn out at first. But after a good cleaning and throwing the protector on there it looks great. It's from playfield-protectors.com

Anyone looking to leave the club? I have a very nice WH20 to trade. PM me if interested

#1960 6 years ago

Just for clarification....I'm looking to trade my WH20 for a WW AND get cash as well on the buyers end. Sorry for any confusion

#1961 6 years ago

How much is the ball affected by the discs when they are not spinning? I think if my decals actually covered the whole disc it would be ok. The playfield protector amplifies that flaw. Adjusted them up and down a lot and gotten to the point where its ok but still can hear it jumping a bit.
Thoughts?

Anybody need a WW plastics set? Complete, never opened. It's 145.00 + shipping new at PPS. I will sell for 120 + actual shipping. Free local pickup + all the pinball you can play.

This is no longer available to purchase outright. I have listed the plastic set on e-bay and it can be bought through the auction. Thanks

#1964 6 years ago

No one took you up on that offer? Dang. I was tempted to buy a second set for spares, or to restore another that might cross my path. I may have missed the opportunity...

#1965 6 years ago

At the moment, you could get them off the e-bay auction for that price....

Inlane questions:

Right Inlane; Super Cellar Door
The Super Cellar Door is lit solid to begin the game. After that, when the ball travels through the right inlane to light the Super Cellar Door, the Super Cellar Door light flickers and then goes away shortly after that. Is this a timed shot after the first one?

Left Inlane: 2 Tolls
When the ball travels through the left inlane, I notice that sometimes it awards 2 tolls. But if I hit the right ramp shot consecutively, like 3 or 4 times in a row, I am only being awarded 1 toll. Shouldn't the left inlane always give 2 tolls when ramp is hit after travelling through it?

Yea. You can actually adjust this as well. I have it lit only once for a "freebe" per game, then I have it set as a timed shot every ball thereafter. You can set it though so it's always a timed shot, and never automatically lit, or set it so it's always lit at the start of each ball. I believe you can even set the amount of time it's lit for the inlane shot, if I recall correctly.

It should always give 2 tolls as long as the "2 tolls" light is lit when you make the shot. Though, to be honest, I've never actually counted my tolls before as I make the shot.

#1968 6 years ago

The Super cellar door will light solid when you hit the left ramp

#1969 6 years ago

lights after every drain, timed after right inlane, solid after a left ramp shot, and solid right after lighting all of the 7 bonuses

Today I attempted to repair someone else's non working WW. I got it up and running but the middle bank of drop targets will not raise when you start a game. I checked the connector going to the targets and the male pins attached to the opto board for broken solder joints, both are fine.

Second issue is the right ramp does not raise but will lower. Anyone have any advice on where we should start? Thanks

#1971 6 years ago

For the drop targets, make sure the switch works. That’s how the game knows to raise them.

#1972 6 years ago

Just joined the club.
Had 4 get past me over the years, but no more.
In nice condition, all LEDs, with a DiamondPlate playfield.

Did she have the LED's already, or did you put them in yersel'?

Officially back in the club! Might be for good this time....
It’s a true HUO game. Picked it up from the daughter of an 86 year old lady who passed away recently. She bought it and Lights Camera Action brand new in 1991. Family kept that one.

Cool Dutch beer sign you got there cheers to that...

LEDs were already in.
Also had a 50-hour shop and playfield job done before I got it.
Thanks for asking.

#1976 6 years ago

I just listed my old playfield for sale if anyone is looking for one.

Very nice too. I love those good ol' neon signs... the soft glow takes me back to when there was no LED or tube light signs.

I’ve been away from this thread for way too long. Whirlwind is still my favorite pin, even after putting 100+ hours of my life into restoring it. Some playfield swap pointers here:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/ww-restore-something-old-something-new

I’ll post some pics of my finished resto next weekend when I’ll have more time.

So I see that the WW playfield rerun has the same problem as the Medusa playfields - the plunger lane groove is too short! Fortunately my buddy warned me about this before I started my Medusa swap. I’m planning to sand it to the right length with some steel rod and sandpaper, then re-clear that area. Otherwise the skill shot gets messed up.

#1984 6 years ago

so who sells the best looking, most accurate, best texture replacement 3 spinner decals?

#1985 6 years ago

Not exactly a member (yet!).
I wish I was, but someone outbid me a few weeks ago on a nice-looking Whirlwind...
One day.

Anyway, a lucky friend of mine is looking for a topper.
Not many chances to find one around here, in France, so I thought I would ask you guys on how it is on your side...

Cheers !

Sort of off-topic, but my son’s friend used our WW and our basement to make a video for a contest he’s entering. I freaked out a little when I first saw it, to be honest...you’ll see why. Fortunately, no harm done. Warning: contains some salty mafia-type language.

People still smoke in the house????

Cool video non the less

#1990 6 years ago

Our home is 100% non-smoking. I didn’t know about the cig until I got home and smelled it. I was not happy. But now that I’ve seen the video, I can see that it helps establish the character as a reckless 2-bit player in the mob.

#1991 6 years ago

Loved the video.

Anyone have a cool lighting scheme for the playfield? I put in some frosted warms under the fronts, I tried blue in the thunder/storm areas, didn’t look good. And a blue under the three drop target.

Just trying to get a a combo that looks good. I could do frosted under all but thought some color might go a long way. Even thought of the “fire” bulbs from comet up front.

#1992 6 years ago

Warm white frosted for all of the GI,for me. I try not to “help” the artist with colors.

#1993 6 years ago

I went with Comet 2smd Sunlight Frosted in all GI and am very pleased with it.

Quoted from Balaraform:

Some may find it heinous, but I've always wanted to try purple flashers behind the storm cloud insert along the back of the game that's above the ramp. Keep everything else standard though. Sometimes lightning looks purplish in real life, and I've always thought the effect would be striking in the game.

#1995 6 years ago

Joining the club any day now. Thanks to Bluemedgroup in OKC for a smooth transaction!

Ohhh, the waiting...Ohhh, the waiting...

...is the hardest part...is the hardest part

I've been diligently getting the nursery ready for my new baby. Details here in what has to be one of the top 100 thread titles this week (if nothing else): https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/the-1987-ford-escort-of-game-room-renovations

#1996 6 years ago

I am about to reinstall my cellar. Does anyone know what length hex bolts are used to mount it? The metal is a bit thicker than a lamps socket, but thinner than a could bracket. The long hex doesn't penetrate the top side, but it is close.

#1997 6 years ago

I just received a great welcome gift to the club - a custom LED light mod for my topper courtesy of @rock914! What a guy. He wouldn't let me pay a dime for it or even contribute to the shipping. Chris, you have some good-ass karma heading your way.

I'll post pictures of the install when I get to it.

What does the mod look like?

#1999 6 years ago

Joining the WW club! Purchased from a Pinsider for a good deal at $2300. Had to make an 8 hour round trip on a Sunday to get it.

Been replacing lots of old burnt out bulbs with LED's and just received the blade stickers. Plan on installing them soon.

The left yellow bumpers 3000 points when lit bulb has been bypassed. Going to try and figure out why someone did that. Besides that, love my WW !

I'll document the install when I put it in and maybe post a video of it in operation. When I get home tonight, I'll shoot a picture of the assembly.
