Quoted from simplykind:

Anyone have any gi led recommendations? Having a tough time deciding warm or cool white. Dont want to color blast it, but a few strategically placed might look nice. Ive seen some examples with warm on the bottom and cool up top, kinda digging that. Lets see your leds!

I did cool white everywhere, and warm white for the slings and return lanes. I also added some led strips along the big plastics that are directly above the outlanes, since they always seemed to dark in my opinion.

#1102 7 years ago

Kinda felt like the Golden ticket when picking it up! Everything works minus some weak slings and various other coils. Think Ill go with warm around the slings and cool up north and see how she looks. Ive been sticking to either warm or cool on entire games, time to change it up a bit.

I can take some, but will appear overly bright as the game isn't finished yet.

Im in..... finally. Got this saaad example for a grand! Time to work some magic and bring this thing back to life. Whats the deal with the golden topper? Original? Painted?

Sad example?? Far from it, that will clean up nicely. Scroll back a Page or two and look at mine. Now thats a sad example, and I paid more unfortunately

what did ya use for glue removal? did my pop bumper areas, but the glue is a nightmare

#1108 7 years ago

Im in the middle of it now. SUCKS! Tryin to rub it with alcohol and flour. My fingers are going to be raw, having my doubts.

#1109 7 years ago

I had great luck with Goo Gone and flour on my WW. Your fingers will definitely be raw.

First, I think you're lucky that the lower half had mylar- mine did not and there is some insert wear there. Doesn't really bug me too much but it will hurt when it's time to trade. Second, as someone who just went through the mylar removal using the same method all I can say is pace yourself and try not to do it all in one weekend. My fingers literally split and I had to wait a couple of weeks in between sessions.

I also had to use a bit of goo gone and plastic razor blades on the inserts, the glue was just too strong there.

#1111 7 years ago

I had to stop. Fingers are raw... have band prax tonight and play guitar. ouch

It's not the PF that's tough but the damn inserts. NOTHING wants to take the residue off of them. Crazy.

Kinda thinking I should have just left the mylar on at this point

Ive done several machines and I found that goo gone and flour works best. Try using pieces of an old t shirt instead of your fingers. I cut up all of my old plain white t shirts for things like this. Make sure to continue to add flour and goo gone as you go. The fresh flour is what absorbs it, otherwise you are just rubbing it off.

#1113 7 years ago

I've also had better luck with Goo Gone by not rushing it...let is soak for a while.

#1114 7 years ago

Bought some goo gone. Ill try your suggestions tomorrow. Thanks!

#1115 7 years ago

Flour and alcohol worked great for me. On the inserts I used a plastic sharp edge scraper.

Just use an old credit card.

#1120 7 years ago

Thats what I was planning to try today but wouldnt mind a little sharper of an edge for the inserts

Auto part stores sell them. https://www.perfprotech.com/media/products/lns-2012/images-large/S/Scraperite/921-SR25GPOE.jpg

#1122 7 years ago

Thanks. The credit card isn't doing much, at least with the goo gone.

Anyone know where I can pick up the topper fan motor cheaper than Marco? I remember once someone found the exact same motor specs for the Earthshaker motor for like $10 on an electronics site instead of like $60. The Marco one is $90 (below)

Playfield top is about done. Just need to level a few raised inserts. Then commence flipper rebuilds, insert leds and coil sleeving!

Anyone have issues with the tornado drop target above the pop bumps? Mine goes down but takes an act of God to pop back up. I retightened the screw that holds the plastic target but to no avail.
Thanks!

Remove the mech and give it a good cleaning, including replacing the coil sleeve.

#1128 7 years ago

Removed the mech, cleaned it, replaced the coil and coil sleeve...still no luck. When I hit the tornado single drop target there is a long delay before it pops back up and counts the score/extra ball.

Try re flowing the male opto pins. Might have a poor connection.

I have just finished up a resto on a Whirlwind that was working perfectly fine previously and am now having issues. I went into test by pressing advance and get the following errors.....

M Drop bottom 27
M Drop middle 28
M Drop top 29

Now, the issues that I am having are, the solenoid that raises the three center pop up targets is not working, also the solenoid which operates the lift ramp is not working and the solenoid that ejects the ball from the cellars is not working. I have found that the problem is the F4 fuse keeps blowing. Where would I begin to diagnose this issue?

Does anyone know where to get a center radar decal? They seem to be sold out everywher.

I bought the whole set from Jeff at Classic Arcades when I had my PF restored: http://www.classic-arcades.com/STORE/index1.html?c5.html&1

When I bought my game, the guy before me had a partially used set of decals. When I get home this afternoon, I can check to see if he used the radar one. If he didn't, I'll just send it out to you in the mail. I'm not going to be using it. I'll PM you later.

Assuming you mean the compass overlay, Pinball Center in Germany has them.

Actually now that I think of it I have the entire compass with the radar attached

Does anyone know how to decipher the error codes that one may get when you press the advance button to do test? I have an error code and have no idea what it is trying to tell me is wrong. You'd figure they would explain this in the manual, but unless I'm just missing it I see nothing about it.

#1140 7 years ago

What's your error code?

Has anyone added a LED light to the cellar scoop? If so how easy is this to do? Is it possible to tie it to the light about the cellar scoop as to only light it when it is lit?

Hello Everyone-I am trying to recreate the entire Fan assembly from Scratch (mine has nothing). I have a new topper on order, I have found the fan blade, triac circuit board, and Motor all new. I have not found the mounting bracket anywhere. Does anyone have a used one or know where I can locate one? Also can anyone post pictures of how it is all assembled such as the view from the back box?

I have done 2 of these and for both I had to fabricate one out of 1x5 aluminum angle. There are pix on google of the fan and how it mounts.

I'm currently redoing a early run diamond plate whirlwind and I can"t figure out where 3 of the plastics in the repo set go. The clouds might be spare parts but I'm really wondering about the large clear plastic.
Any help would be appreciated.

The plastic on the left is not used on Whirlwind.
Not sure why they added it in the set.

The other 2 clouds are to add on top of other plastics for ball hang ups as needed.
I have the upper cloud behind the celler hole on the large plastic with a 1/2 inch long standoff.

So I got my fan blade, Triac, and motor in the mail today. I have a mounting bracket and topper on order and the machine still had the wiring. Is that everything to get the fan up and running or am I missing something?
