I moved it from my bird shed into my house and the display went out. Working on it now.
Quoted from RyanClaytor:Does anyone here know where to purchase replacement disk decals that are sort of rubbery so that it grabs the ball more? Mine feel a little more like hard/sand-papery than grippy.
Still wondering about this.

Marco has them http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/31-1536-574 at a better price and they look a little less glossy then the pinballdecal ones. Pinballdecals.com look like they would be more slick then grabbing the ball as they should.
Quoted from RyanClaytor:Still wondering about this.
I picked up mine from Bay Area. I am not sure how rubbery though as I have all the parts for whirlwind in a box waiting on me to build a rivet press so I can install the new plastics. I am quite lazy these days
Are the metal posts at the top of the slings supposed to be taller than the star posts at the bottom? If so, why?
Quoted from Lermods:Anyone replace their display? Any recommendations? Looking at the pinscore.
I've heard really great things about X-pin displays. Possibly the best feature is that they include a custom gel that darkens the unlit digits so you can't see them when they're off. It gives it a much more convincing gas plasma look.

Please don't buy the ones on ebay for $349 CRAZY PRICE. These sets sell for $150 plus shipping

That threw me off as well when doing my restore. But yes, that is the way they are. And no idea why it is like that.
Quoted from zerbam:where did you buy the lift ramp from?
I got it from RTBB. It was the very last one in stock. I checked at thirteen different places before I got lucky and found it.
Good find. I recently made one for the Seattle Pinball Museum and have decided to make some more if anyone is interested. I won't be providing the hinge though so if your hinge is good I can probably help....see this post.

Hey! Not till you finish the Hurricane ramps mister!!
Couple of questions.
1. Anybody ever used this overlay? I'm not a fan of overlays as they never look quite right. I have some minor wear above the center spinner, thinking I'd rather touch it up, but curious as to what others have done.

2. My spinner for the right orbit seems unbalanced and won't always stay vertical when hit. How is this best adjusted?

Does your game have PF mylar on it? If it does these will not apply correctly without removing the mylar.

Great advice. Thanks!

Oh there is definitely always interest in these from what I can see. I wish I had known you would do these or I wouldn't have spent the $70 for mine. I have been watching your ramp thread, any chance that you'll be doing both ramps or one for Whirlwind??

I have that overlay on my field as my area was worn out too. The downside is that they are thick so you will need at least 6-7 coats of clear over it to make it level.
If you have no plans to clear the field just touch it up. Look for Createx brand paints, do not buy regular off the shelf acrylics.

Probably a good chance I will do these at some point. Right now I am building a new much larger machine to accommodate the bigger ramps. Hurricane is up first on the new machine.

Thx, what's the right color?
Here's some pics of my game...
Your machine is really nice!!! Honestly I think you could get away with just using black. It could also make up for the very minute amount of red missing.
2nd that ^^ There actually isn't any red missing around the spinners, touchup the black and your done there... ANY gloss black will do, but use acrylic enamel.
I wanted to paint where the wood has wear too, should I just put some clear over it, or paint that area some kind of wood colored brown?
Quoted from Lermods:I wanted to paint where the wood has wear too, should I just put some clear over it, or paint that area some kind of wood colored brown?
I would just remove whatever loose wood fibers that are there and clear over it to lock it down. If you do get the Createx remember to always cure it with heat afterwards. Clear over the black also to protect it from wear.
Working on it, will post pics later today. An artist I am not, but I think it will be ok. What's great about acrylic paint is that it easily dissolves with alcohol so if you f up,
You can start over. I'm also using a polycrylic clear, which also dissolves with alcohol. I figure three coats of poly will suffice.
Water based poly. Dries fast. Good on small Areas.

I see you found the ultimatepplayfield restoration thread. Tons of great information in there.
Quoted from In_Violation:Does having a translite on your whirlwind with the Chicago Cubs logo increase its value?

Possibly, if the rest of the game is also an early production (ie...diamond plated). I would say it makes the translite more valuable, but I personally find it cooler with the W sticker over it.
Hey I just joined the club last night! It is missing the topper and I see a lot of postings about blue and white ones. Any preference from people? Where is the cheapest to buy each one? Also anyone that has bought a new topper, willing to sell there old one?
Quoted from Pmaino:I've got a blue one that I'd be willing to sell. It is in decent condition.
Thanks per my PM I look forward to the pics!
Quoted from sohchx:I got a nice new present yesterday!!
I need one of those too. The machine I just acquired is missing the whole thing including the hinge.
Quoted from sohchx:What is the correct way that this should be set up when shooting the ball??
According to the manual, after you have the game at the correct pitch a full pull of the plunger should send the ball around the top loop. If it doesn't you adjust that guide until it does.

Ok Thank you!!
ones from marco look like originals/feel like originals. Just got them in last week. Not glossy either.
I just bought the middle one from a place in Europe, pinball center i think it was called. It was a good match and good quality.

They're in Germany, and they're out of them. I have bought there before... I'm really trying to avoid the huge shipping fees this go-round.

I bought that center plastic from them also. I'm happy. They look to be sold out now.

Honestly, I'll say that when it comes to plastics for this machine you won't have a choice if you're looking right now. I have had to order from Germany, Australia and the UK for all of my plastics and my lift ramp. The only thing that you will definitely find in the States are the sling plastics. I saw a pretty big stack of them at a booth this weekend at Pinfest.
