Looking for cabinet decals for my WW, and Mad has them considerably less than everyone else. I wanted to know if these are the same as the others offer out there or some cheap knockoffs?
Any advice?
Illinois pinball has them for $175 but I do not know of the quality.

When I was doing my whirlwind restoration I looked into the decals.
Apparently there are cheaper printed decals and more expensive silk screened decals.
The silk screened look much, much better from the reviews I've read of others.
I actually went the artist route and hired a fine arts student who works in her fathers motorcycle shop to touch up the cabinet.
Looks amazing and maintains its original character - plus it was more affordable than the actual decals.
Food for thought...
I'd be interested i seeing pictures of how your cabinet touch ups turned out. I have heard of others going this route also.

Here ya go.
Feel free to drop a line with any questions.

Quoted from wxforecaster:If you want to remain "original", I think there are stencils available as well.
Whirlwind had silk screened graphics. They weren't painted on with stencils.
Ummm... silk screening is done by pushing paint or ink through a mesh screen stencil
A decal would not be original.
Weren't some Whirlwind Cabinets stenciled and some silk screened? I also hear that Earthshaker was that way also? Correct me if I am wrong.

I think I'm going to go this route, as there really are only a couple of areas that need to be touched up.
Ranhorton, what did you do with your siderails? I'm not sure if I should try buffing them out or try and find replacements.
Quoted from gjbwalker:A couple of pics . . . It's hard to see the blemishes, that's why I'm thinking touch up now.
I'd definitely go the touchup route. That doesn't look bad at all. My WW has graffiti all over it and is missing chunks in the corners.
Chris
Thanks Chris. I have some corners missing some small chunks of wood, so I'll have to patch and sand those before I touch up.

My side rails were in pretty good shape.
I used a magic eraser on them.
Then some novus 3.
Then some metal polish.
May have been a bit of overkill but they looked great...until my 18 month old got his grubby fingers on them
Need to clean them again.
Oh and if you go the touch up route I posted the whirlwind blue paint mix on my whirlwind restoration post.

That is awesome . . . saves me a lot of trial and error. Thanks. I might pic your brain a little as the restore goes on. I have a CPR playfield on order, but in the mean time I'll work on the cabinet.

Pick away.
I actually just played a game an hour ago.
3 ball game.
25,350,000
Haven't had one of those kind of games in a couple months. Usually it kicks my butt.
And that CPR field should look amazing since it will have a slick clearcoat over it.
I just hope they do the plastics as well. Mine are all in tack but a couple are a bit faded.

Heh I just got 26.1 million on mine as well tonight

How do I find this post? I need that paint mix info myself. Any help would be great. Thanks..
