Quoted from DCFAN:

It would be Kiss for me.

I'll agree there. Kiss is a terrible theme to me.

Quoted from balbers:

Finally, someone posts about an EM. Thank goodness! But, how does it play?

Let me add another one, ranked <#1 by IPDB : slick chick. The theme seems terrible - ladies in animal disguise??

Damn! I always thought it meant something else.

Damn! I always thought it meant something else.

I hope it does. I might have missed some cultural US element from the 60's... but look:

Mabe those guys on the backglass know something we don't.

#106 10 years ago

Overall I would make a distinction between very bad theme, and very bad artwork.

Genesis is a great theme, but its backglass is bad.
Poker is acceptable as a theme - problem with WPT is with the backglass mostly.

Hardbody'backglass is bad and theme is...worse

Future spa seems a weird theme to me...

Quoted from DCFAN:

Yep, worst theme of all time. Kiss. LOL!!!

my votes for Metallica, Wizard of Oz, CSI, Monopoly, Big Buck Hunter, Episode 1, ..this list could be 100's long.

Not BBH... you are not allowed to attack BBH... Abacusman will punish you for this profanation

#110 10 years ago

had to do it. I'm not saying it's a bad game. but the theme should have stayed in the arcade realm. No business crossing over to the pin world.

#111 10 years ago
Quoted from TomGWI:

Gay Cruise...........beat!

I guess "Gay Cruise" had a different meaning "back in the day" 'cuz there's a whole lot of straight people on the backglass.

#113 10 years ago

Every game based on what was going to be next summer's Hollywood blockbuster, Congo, Demolition Man, Flintstones the movie, The Shadow, Johnny Mnemonic, Last Action Hero etc etc, you get the idea.

#114 10 years ago

Was there a pin made in the 90's based on a good movie other than T2?

I can look past theme on almost any pin, but that ability runs out at LOTR. I can't really play the game at all due to the theme. It's repulsive to me.

That's just me, though. I'm sure the theme is great for someone who is into that sort of thing.

Starship Troopers
MSF, BSD and Apollo 13 weren't bad.

#116 10 years ago

You have to wonder what themes didn't even make it to production and ended up in Bally's trash can. Maybe "Clambake", "Aunt Bea", "Pocket Pool", "Time Slut". Even a young "Batman" was a possibility but "Batboy" got the thumbs down.

#117 10 years ago

^^ I would buy a 'Time Slut' based on name alone.

'Time Slut'

Quoted from kwiKimart:

Anyone who thinks STTNG is a bad theme is an IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, sorry that I'm not a nerd like you

You can enjoy your Patrick Stewart love fest while I go bang my wife.

Game, set, match !

(whispering). Kwiki, tell him he's going to have to wait his turn like everyone else at the gangbang.

Yeah Gay=Fun. Regardless it is a cruise theme.

Dirty Harry

#123 10 years ago
Quoted from davewtf:

Theatre of Magic

struck a nerve with that one, i guess. Would have been worse as David Copperfield, though.

How did i get twice as many thumbs down as the guy who said Monster Bash? Do you guys like TOM better than MB, theme wise?

Some kind of show about to happen...

IJ and Star wars pins based on movie series
Do you consider BSD, BTTF, Batman, A13, LW3, maverick and flintstones good movies?

Yea, it's probably an unfair question for me to ask, since I generally can't stand movies at all..

#127 10 years ago

Never quite understood "Blue Chip". A pin based on commerce? Almost screams "not fun".

AC/DC! I would of said WOZ but the layout sucks so if anything the theme helps!?

Quoted from BigB:

I vote for Tee'd Off. I'd rather watch paint dry than watch golf but amazingly, that game is ridiculously fun to play. The first time I played it I figured I would hate it but it turned out to be really fun. You know the old saying... Never judge a book by it's cover......

If you name Teed Off, then you gotta add No Good Gofers. Same theme. Heck, if you're gonna make a Caddyshack game, get the friggin' license!!

My vote goes to Metallica. ACDC is a solid oldschool band, but Metallica? There are SO many other great bands that would make for better themed pins.

#130 10 years ago
Quoted from jlm33:

I hope it does. I might have missed some cultural US element from the 60's... but look:

re Slick Chick: Oldschool Playboy Club theme... without the license.

#131 10 years ago
Quoted from DCFAN:

I dunno. 17000 served. Guess it couldn't have been that bad of a theme.

#132 10 years ago

Two successful 90s movies with successful pins that I can think of:

Jurassic Park
Addams Family (remember it's based on the movie)

Beyond those, a lot of the good themes actually came in the late 80s like IJ, DESW, BTTF and Batman.

It is apparent that few know what a tragedy is. To me, the answer is "none."

This thread's title is just a nice way of asking "which pins' themes suck?"

Stupid thread is stupid.

My wife and I had a discussion about Dancing Lady this week. I had an opportunity to buy one once for a nice price. My wife said I should have. I understand it's a fun game and EM backglass animation is always a plus. My comment to her was that it's just such a weird theme for a pinball enthusiast. How many guys want a game with a little pivoting ballerina in it? I do like the originality but like Fashion Show you have to wonder if they were trying to appeal to a different demographic.

Aren't those supposed to be 1963 Playboy Bunnies?

#136 10 years ago

I would have bought it for the backbox animations alone. She just twirl around in there? Switch her out with one of the Sopranos strippers and there you go. Pinball fan theme.

#137 10 years ago

I think I'll just take my Slick Chick on a Gay Cruise, and we'll have a gay old time.

#138 10 years ago

congo, JM, WOZ

Wow, that's pretty awesome for an old machine!

As someone who has experienced actual personal tragedy, I'll just say yes.

There is no such thing as a "TRAGICALLY bad theme" on a frickin' pinball.

What would be a real "Tragedy" is another gay pinball machine.

#146 10 years ago
Quoted from nosro:

Who cares?

If it's a great player, buy it because you enjoy playing it--not because of the theme.

Depends on your point of view. In my part of the world, it'd be well received.

Kings of Steel.

Well, so have I, but you're being just a tad serious on a Pinball forum don't you think? Anyway, carry on!
