Enjoyed Steve Richie interview around Zep and history w/rock designs. Whether you love them or not, I find it interesting what the design teams create to best represent the artists.

Which modern Sterns hit the right chords more times than not?
It would be interesting to hear from non owners/location players as well.
(Mult answers fine)

I own all the modern rock pins. I like them all except Zeppelin. Favorites would be 1 Maiden, 2 AC DC, and 3 Metallica.

Nice. Miss owning maiden. Good example whether you enjoy the band or not.

#4 2 years ago

I’ve owned AD/DC, Aerosmith and Beatles.

There’s no questioning Metallica’s design awesomeness, I just didn’t care for the music.

I need more time on Zeppelin, but I wasn’t instantly attracted, despite loving the band.

Iron maiden and zeppelin are fantastic great music great machines.looking for Met prem/le

Maiden is good. I haven't played Zeppelin yet. My favorite is Kiss, love the Kevin O'Connor art. I just wish it came later so it would have the LCD treatment

Maiden gets frenetic which is exactly what it should do. It got my vote.
Being a Beatles owner, I also think they nailed the 1964 vibe, and it's also customizable to change the music to SGt Pepper, White Album and Revolver thanks to the work of industrious pinsiders.

I agree on Beatles vibe.
Nice to see a few votes going over that way.

I like almost all of these games, rock themes are irresistable.

The only one I never really connected with was Elvis. Not sure why I just didn't "get it."

Stones I like as I'm a big Stones fan but I can see why it's not exactly loved around here. You rarely see it for sale which I think is a combo of low production and most of them ending up bolted down into Stones fans' basements. It's main problem is the rules which I would say lack polish and variety.

Maiden is probably the best of the lot, honorable mention to Metallica.

Aerosmith and Kiss are both pretty awesome games but in a pinch I'd probably go with Aero as KISS is a pain in the ass with the Gene head constantly spitting the ball straight down the middle. When you have to "correct" a flaw like that with software (dumb ball save) you know the design is a mess. Doesn't help you during multiball either as balls just sail down the middle. Aero looks better too.

Beatles is a ton of fun, I have a feeling one day that's going to be a pretty high value game.

AC/DC and Zep are solid games. The Zep pro kind of blows but the Premium is great with the spinner and the upper flipper ramp.

The Rock pins - besides Zep - have a great record having awesome Pro versions so hard to go wrong.

Running out of great bands to do I would be very excited by a Sabbath, Floyd, or Judas Priest theme (the last being the least likely I'd say). Rumors are strong for Rush but that band doesn't do anything for me beyond WOrking Man.

Based off just gameplay easily going with Zeppelin > IM > AC/DC > Metallica > Elvis > Beatles

played at least 50+ games on each and can say for sure the gameplay on zeppelin destroys all but IM and AC/DC and at that point it’s more of a “who’s music do you prefer”.

I haven’t had a chance to try out Aerosmith or Rolling Stones so I left those out.

#12 2 years ago

Metallica is my favorite (although not my favorite band) and I'm currently looking for one. The possibilities for a Floyd machine are endless.....could be over the top with lasers and would need an external smoke machine too!

#13 2 years ago

Great: Metallica, IMDN, , Beatles

Horrible -->AeroKiss, ACDC, Elvis

Other than Elvis, this seems to be the exact opposite of my pleasure listening to the music.

#14 2 years ago

I'm loving zepp, but metallica is still my fav. Only way I'd sell it is if they vaulted it in lcd. But zeppelin is pretty dang good if you give it a chance, and don't believe the negativity. I've owned all the rock pins except the Beatles and elvis

#15 2 years ago

I'll throw my two cents in here ...knowing I'd probably keep the pin for a while I didn't want to get burnt out on the music of a machine - love Aerosmith, ACDC and LZ...and although I was raised on rock, I was never a big IMDN fan. Wasn't that I didn't like them, just not my cup o' tea. (Metallica Black Album was my drink of choice at that timeframe) anywho, I digress - so when going for a new machine - I chose IMDN. Some tracks of course are burnt into my memory from days of old, but some were new to me....and how they interact with the game? Never get burnt out on this one. Amazing in my opinion. It's my top game, but I've showed it a lil more love. Never tired of the sounds, songs or the game.

On another "music pin" subject - I'd always thought why do people have headphones for their pins? Really? For this IMDN, I added the Headphone jack adapter (with exterior volume knob) - the ease to adjust volume is one thing (w or W/O HP's) , but to put some nice headphones on and crank this game up to 40...wow! Music is great, call outs & sounds are better ( too many years playing bass has impacted my hearing) But now I can plug in and jam away anytime night or day!

Rock on!

That setup looks cool I may need headphones sometimes. My other games mostly have pinwoofers so I have that but there are times I want to play but need to keep it down for others.I wonder if I can have it both ways ?

The Stern model was twice as much as this one with no logo. ($50 or something like that) And I would think yes, when you unplug the headphones, the speakers kick right back on, so I would think you can have your cake and eat it too! Just wipe those messy hands!

#19 2 years ago

AC/DC and Metallica are pins I always wanted to exist...and then they did, and they're amazing games. Very happy owning them both.

I've owned Rolling Stones, Elvis, DE Tommy, and DE GnR...enjoyed them all, but let them go.

I'd like to get more time on Maiden...people really love it, but when I played it, I couldn't really get a feel for it or understand what was happening.

Definitely give it another chance. I felt the same way early on and then once it clicked, it was amazing. It is tied with Metallica for my favorite pin.

Well the good thing is it keeps a running tally right on the screen of stuff you should be doing.
Its a great system, would have worked great for a game like MET

Does the volume knob adjust speaker volume too or only headphone?

Amazing - IMDN (any model), MET (any model), ACDC (Premium/LE - the bell and drop targets make the game)

Good - Elvis, AC/DC Pro, Kiss (any model)

Mediocre - Aerosmith Pro, Rolling Stones (any model)

Awful - Aerosmith Premium/LE, Beatles, Zeppelin (any model)

Zeppelin is further proof that Steve Richie should've retired after Star Trek 2013. The laziest modern Stern by a large margin.

Insanity, I think it’s easily one of his best of all time lol. What don’t you like about it?

It has hideous artwork on the cab, pf and translite on all models.

No toys at all on the pro, the upper flipper is worthless on the pro, You have to pay an extra $500 for a decent lightshow on the pro.

The main toy on the premium is a slightly more complicated Iron Monger from Iron Man, a mech that was in a game that was $3899 NIB over 10 years ago. That mech and an extra ramp that justifys the upper flipper runs you $7600 today.

10 songs, 2 less than most Stern pins. No custom callouts, generic British dude.

Plays more like a Spooky/a homebrew game than a game by a professional manufacturer.

Interesting take. I don’t get that on gameplay at all. Fast and flows like a MF (multi ball is insane here where it shows flow the most) and easily one Richies best.

The mech (when it works right) is totally worth it as it changes the entire game when it’s up totally different than the pro or down it’s just like a pro and the multi ball both zeppelin and electric magic are probably the best multi ball modes in any game I’ve ever played.

I totally agree on the theme art, callouts and 10 songs (but damn they picked 10 solid ones). But the gameplay I’m not seeing it. Played 100’s on pins and LZ in terms of gameplay is easily top 5 for me. Richie has a winner imo

I am the only guy that loves the LE and premium artwork.
10 songs sucks but they are great songs.
Maiden is the best game so far
Zepp is fun in my house need met and acdc next

Personally I love the premium artwork (hence why I bought a premium) but I can see how it’s not everyone’s Jam.

I enjoy maiden but the gameplay is boring after 50 games or so it’s too easy. Music is decent if you like IM, not a fan here personally. Still fun as hell and I enjoy it but I actually like the gameplay and rule set to LZ a hair better. AC/DC would be my close third.

As for the 10 songs I’d be interested in play time as well compared to some of the other games tracks too. For instance I know Kashmir is very close to a 10 minute song!. Very hard to play through on just one ball.

Unfortunately, when the main toy on a game has reliability or gameplay issues it does detract from the play experience. Hopefully, Stern will get the EMS fixed for good one of these days and all the owners can enjoy their LZ Premium/LE without spinner problems.

Personally, I like the AC/DC Premium/LE, always fun to hit the bell.

#35 2 years ago

will they make a Ted Nugent vault or is he too batshit crazy now to sell ?

#36 2 years ago

Always lots of fun with AC/DC and Metallica. Had Elvis years ago but had to go.

#37 2 years ago

My MET and Aerosmith Pros are bolted for me. If I could pick up 2 more they’d likely be AC/DC and IMDN, but they would have to be Premiums.

#38 2 years ago

MET and IRMD are on top but they have yet to make the best one yet.......

I disagree with many of your assessments of these games, but whatever. I can’t imagine calling a game where people have clearly worked their asses off to build ‘awful” or “lazy”. Implying that Spooky is making homebrews and is not a professional manufacturer though is just disrespectful and pretty fucking ridiculous.

The world would be a better place with Pink Floyd Pinball.
Played all the recent rock pins and ended up going with LZ and Metallica for my first 2 pins. Complete opposite games both awesome in their own way.
