Youngster
Quoted from Rarehero:It’s a testament to how great Fred Gwynn, Al lewis, and Yvonne DeCarlo were. They took a silly premise and elevated it with iconic performances that made it timeless. Even the underlying message: don’t judge a book by its cover...still holds true today. I’m re-watching the show right now, and I don’t know if it was intentional at the time, but the show is essentially about racism. A “different looking” family moves to town & everyone is fearful and skeptical of them, even though they’re sweethearts. My wife loves how Herman loves and respects her wife...very different than the usual sitcom bickering snarky married couple.
I was born in 76, and loved the show as a kid. There’s something about it that keeps it from being lame, even though it’s old. It’s still fun, it still holds up.
Yeah I do find it curious what about this show works it must be some cultural thing. I'm in the demographic as far as age but it must not have got much play on Canadian TV. I only remember it as disappointing filler, they would slide it in where they would normally use Lucy or the Honeymooners. My reaction was always what they hell is this and I would go do something else. Then again maybe it was just how great all those old black and white monster movies were, the Munsters was like sacrilege.
Quoted from pinmister:Metallica has been in my top 5 since I purchased it. It literally is bolted to the floor, mine is going nowhere. Now GOTG-that may be another story-Dammit if I did not love the theme and music so much.
I've been into Metallica since the early 80s, before anyone knew who they were, so i do like their music and the pin. But really, it's just another fan layout bash game. Not in my top 5, barely top 10 I would say. The Munsters will go good with the mad scientist lab theme in our game room. And when we tire of it, we'll sell it, too.
Quoted from DCFAN:It really is amazing that they made 70 quality episodes in two years. The show should have gone on for a few more seasons.
Were they making car 54 at the same time also?
Worked them hard back them.
Quoted from TheLaw:Were they making car 54 at the same time also?

Car 54 was 60 episodes in two seasons, 1961-63. Munsters was 1964-66.

Actually Car 54 ran for two seasons (1) 61-62 and (2) 62-63, they first season of the Munster's started in 64 and went thru 66. Both of these shows were great and could have had a lot more life to them but they cancelled the Munster's due to low ratings when that cape crusader started to air.

If they ever make a Car 54 machine and a Gunther Toodie LE I’m in.
Oooo.....Oooo......Ooooo
I really wanted to pay the premium price but I also wanted the color playfield and lower playfield because...
Franchi artwork is gorgeous and colors pop
Cab art is not my favorite but I won't see it anyway next to my other games
I have no other Borg pins so no repetition for me with other titles
Average player so I doubt I reach the lower playfield often enough to be a negative
Yes the show was in black and white but the pilot was in color, and the Munster Go Home! movie (which is what I remember most) is also color
Love monster-themed pins (have SS, MSF, BSD and CFTBL already)
Thought I was out of luck for a LE but now it looks like I've got one. Will be my first NIB machine.
I didn't want black and white but I can see why people do, it is really different and kind of cool, I want to see the premium in person.
Quoted from dzmechanical:I think I might be in on a le. I just called distributor and they told me they have to charge me tax now in new jersey with is about $600.00 before the new year they didn't charge me tax. THIS SUCKS......
Whoa! Ship it to a friend in NY....
I’ll prob go premium or le in a year, maybe two, maybe never...
The good: lower pf will be awesome. Way better design than stewie and AC/DC. Plus resale of nib is on the way down, big time.
The absolute bad: Dwight is horrendously bad with finishing code (GB, GOT etc) and incomplete code kills all the hard work that went into design.
Quoted from Tranquilize:I’ll prob go premium or le in a year, maybe two, maybe never...

Y is resale value going way down? Also looks like the code is mostly complete (at least 1st tier modes) and the lighting and lcd look pretty great .

I don't worry about resale value because when i buy a game i plan on keeping it forever. That obviously doesn't always work out that way but if i keep a game 2 or 3 years or whatever and have to take a little loss on it im ok with that because i got to enjoy it for a good while.

You literally bolted it to the floor?
Quoted from Russell:You literally bolted it to the floor?
Ha, no just saying it literally is going nowhere. If someone offered me $1000 more than what is worth I would still say no.
I guess the hype on Munsters has simmered down for me, because I am already on the hunt for other titles. Everything happens for a reason I guess-maybe it is a sign from up above to save my money for Steve Ritchie's next game this year.

1 billion dollars
I am holding out for a color Prem which I really hope they make. B&W is cool but I love colors and lights....just looking at the flames coming out of the car in color seals it for me. I never really liked mini PFs but this one looks really cool. What I like most is when mini PF is in action, all the other lights go out. This reminds me of the Las Vegas Fremont experience when the light show goes on and all the casinos turn their lights off. Anything that reminds me of Vegas.....my favorite place to go......is going to the front of the I want it line.
I feel like Pinside should lump all the Munster threads together with a drop down list. One header for Munsters. Click on that and all the Munster threads come up in a list.
This really goes for any new game.
The show was great . It would have cost them an extra 10, 000 bucks each episode to film in color, so they went with black and white.
It had a great following until Batman came out in full color and twice a week . It' s what killed the Munster off.
The cult status came from it being re-run alot and new people getting to see it.
You can look up on You Tube and see the un aired color pilot.
I remember when Addams Family and Munsters were on the same time, different channels. My brother and me would fight over which one we would watch.
We liked them both..but we each had our Favorite. I'm sure same here on pinside now that they both are here.

Why didn't you just record them both? oh wait........

Too hard to chose. Gotta have both. I can do without the lower playfield so will get my hands on a secondhand Pro. Hopefully this fall. Already have Addams.

Totally agree. I'm just saying the Minty huo market is getting better and better as saturation grows. Finished code and saving a few grand works best for me!

I sold all my high end older games with that theme. Scared stiff,The Addams Family,Twilight Zone...basically because I became a collector and was afraid to play them... and left this hobby for awhile. I kept my BSD and TFTC, because they are Very Nice condition, and I play them. I always said, if Monsterbash was remade I would come back into it. Well, it did..Then what I NEVER thought would happen (years ago)..Munsters happened..I already collect all munsters stuff. Damn! Between a Munster LE and a MBR LE, and a monster mansion slot machine....I guess I'm back again! At least these are new, I will NOT be afraid to play them!!!
I'm ecstatic!!...Bring back a TAF and I'll get that too!...my poor bank acct. My wife has always been on board btw
I LOVE my wife!
I use to watch the show so much. Never thought i would own the pinball. I got to looking at my collection and realized i have a scary collection:
The Addams Family Gold
Elvira and the Party Monsters
Monster Bash
Scared Stiff
The Munsters
Maybe to much of the same theme.
I do love the lower playfield. The black and white us cool, but the color on the pro and the munsters koach vehicle on the pro are so cool. Man! I wish the pro had a lower playfield.
The best world for me right now would be, buy a premium and a LE playfield and then do a swap. Love the art on the Prem Glass and cab, the color PF with lower PF is nice from the LE, but who knows maybe stern will release a Muntser's Vault Prem in which the PF will be in color.
Quoted from ViolinSteve:Throwing in some Pro love. Yes, the lights missing from the ramps are on the pro in front of the ramps. Just no space to put them there on the upcharge models. I like the Pro, just wish there was a B&W option, 'cause I think that artwork really pops! Worried I might think it's too much like MET, though, after playing for a while.
Have no fear. Completely different coders and really different layouts. Not sure if they will have any similarities at all. That’s a good thing.
What's everyone hearing on actual prices for the pro and premium to your door? Have things went up a few hundred since maiden and is tax being charged? Pm me if you don't want the info in the threads. I believe maiden was 5500-5600 to your door and no tax added.
Quoted from chuckwurt:Have no fear. Completely different coders and really different layouts. Not sure if they will have any similarities at all. That’s a good thing.
Yeah, I told Trent today I'm in on a Pro and asked him to let me know when he gets one so I can play it. I had a deposit with him for Deadpool, but changed my mind. I like all the features on this latest Pro. And I love Borg's work.
Quoted from andrewket:At first I was torn between prem and LE, but as the stream went on, the music became quite annoying, and the machine seems to lack depth. I think I’m sitting this one out for awhile.
Thought this of that stream as well, but when I saw the stream done by Dwight the programmer, I’m completely turned around and see how this game has depth with lots of music changes. That first stream had lots of people whom didn’t know the game at all playing.

My wife said the same thing about our collection after I recently sold Rocky and Bullwinkle, kinda lamenting that we didn't really have any "fun" themed games. I kinda lean towards monster and space/sci fi themes, same as the kind of movies I like too. We used to have NGG,
so I told her we'd look for a Flintstones to break it up a bit. Then she saw Munsters, which is kinda both funny and monster, and she's on board for a Premium!

Really? By the looks of your collection you have an Awesome selection of fun!

Dwight's explanation of the rules was well done and shows that the game has more depth than what is initially apparent. It's easily approachable by new players and provides an attainable level 1 wizard mode. My impression was much improved after watching Dwight's tutorial as well, but I just don't have funds to buy anything right now other than maybe a hotdog
Rob
I'm torn. Waiting for the newness to wear off. Passed on an le early. I was thinking premium but unsure how the black and white will play with a silver ball. So for now I sit on the sidelines watching for a color prem combo trick play option after LE all ships. If not will wait to play prem in person. Mble just arrived so maybe I am monstered out. Who knows maybe if I wait long enough another pinball will be announced and my ADD will lead me to another machine.
If Stern is reading this give the people another choice, think it would sell you an additional 500 to 1k prems.
Quoted from MK6PIN:Believe the LE's can be taken off the choices for NIB from distros.....2nd hand, or flippers may be the only way to get one currently....obviously, over time.....
Gameroom Guys and Classic Game Rooms still have some.
Quoted from Tuna_Delight:Gameroom Guys and Classic Game Rooms still have some.
good update!!!!
Yep some le are still available. I just ordered a pro bc its beautiful and is basically identical to the other models minus the lower playfield and art.... .not to mention it plays much faster with no real downtime in gameplay/flow. If i end up loving the pro and want the lower playfield ill order a premium.... however i don't think almost 2k more for just a lower playfield is really worth it. John b usually designs the pros very well but this may be the least amount of difference between models ever? All in all stern and team did a great job with this title
