If you're not comfortable doing the modification, then you could hold off and wait for the new RGB LED display later this summer that will be a perfect fit. This is assuming you would only want colored DOTS. It will not be able to do the HiRES and SCAN modes that the LCD version can do.
I definitely want a CDMD cause this will be my first one and I would like to swap it from game to game as I get more DMD games so I can see if I want to buy more.

Nope. DMD is fine. Don't worry I don't care to ever get my money back on games. They also rarely leave.
